My step-dad and I would play lots of Pong. In the beginning, he'd win alot until I figured out the angles and behaviours. Later, we would play Pacman, Defender and Yar's on the VCS.
-
Well, it's nice the folks at Atari decided to redeem themselves with the 5200/8-bit port. Granted, the controller for the 5200 sucked, but Pacman was re-done very nicely.
-
Could you provide your source of confirmation? It would help lend credibility since many individuals/sites are looking for this same information.

At that time at Atari most 2600 games where done by only one person. Due to the fact that everything that goes on in a 2600 program is so dependent on everything else, it would have been really hard to do team development.Dan
For the most part, this is true. In the very early VCS days, the development "team" was a one man (or woman) show. However, later in Atari's lifecycle, there were several VCS titles that had a development "team" consisting of coders & graphics artists. Granted, that is nothing compared to todays 100-200 member dev teams for games. Watch Stella at 20 and you will see where several "teams" discuss the games they created and their roles.

I think for the sake of historical accuracy this is a great idea. With the vast knowledge and resources available in the AA (and others) community, one would think this is highly do-able.
I'll continue to dig thru the docs and such that I have and research these. Anyone else willing/able to help?

I've had no luck with locating the other 4. Anyone else have any light they'd like to shed on these?

I have a 16 yr. old daughter. While she's not a HUGE Atari fan (other than Unreal Tournament 2003 & Area 51), she does enjoy spending time with dear ol' dad and does play VCS games with me now and then.

If you want to get into the Book of Records (which get's published this Feb.), send me a tape of your game along with a TG submission form which can be found here:
http://www.snipercade.com/twingal/bin/TG%2...Form%20v1.2.pdf
...and send them both in. Once reviewed, your score will be published in the TG dBase and then the Book of Records.
Take care and great score!

My problem with the game is two-fold. When you defeat any of the knife throwers, you get NO POINTS! add to that the controls for the game are less than ideal... besides those two complaints, I just plain suck at the game (as is indicated by my miserable score of 41,900).

-
Happy B-Day Todd! You will forever beat me on this title by ONE point.

-
I've had my time at 5.81 for some time now (thanks for the cert Todd).

-
Don't forget Jonathan Ewing. I've never spoken to him, but I've noticed that he's racked up some killer Activision scores!!! The same goes for Doug Korekach! Both are from the East. If you have an East vs. West... the East is shaping up pretty well!!
Yes, until Todd moves to Austin, TX. Then he'll be a west coaster with me. That is until my daughter graduates from HS next year and I move back east.

-
So i take it as a Great feather in the cap when anyone beats Todd Rogers. Hats off to you Ron how many other certifications do you have and do any of the other players you mentioned earlier have certifications like Robert , David , or Alan???? I see their names mentioned quit a bit too. Do you ever have teams of players in competition against each other like perhaps Ron/Todd vs Robert/David or Alan/Mike vs Wolffe/Snider man or even East Coast vs West Coast just an idea .Joy
Other certs I have (that I can think of anyways):
3rd Place - MAME Robotron Championship (2002)
2nd Place - Atari 2600 Racing Days Dragster Competition (2002)
1st Place - Atari 7800 World Championship (2001)
3rd Place - Space Duel World Championship (Brien King partner)(2001)
Lifetime Videogame Achievement Award (2000)
1st Place - Atari 2600 World Championship (2000)
1st Place - Atari/Coleco World Championship (2000)
1st Place - Atari World Championship (1999)
Activision World Class Dragster Club (5.81) (1982)
To this point, we have not formed teams to compete against other teams. We do have private challenges against each other in addition to open tournaments. In fact, Todd and I have been going back and forth on Ms. Pacman (all platforms) for a couple of years now. I have finally beaten him on all platforms (as he mentioned above).

Back in the mid 80's, Twin Galaxies had a competition that was "East-vs-West", or more accurately, "California vs. North Carolina" on coin-op games. Perhaps we should put together an "East vs. West" competition for the VCS... ? Although, we would need to consider non-North America gamers too.

I also have another version of Space Invaders that I made specifically for a programming group I belong to (Dark Unicorn Productions). You can find it here:

or, take a look at the DUP site here:

Very interesting on all these players commenting on Todd . But there is one question that comes to mind when it reguards Todd. What are the other players opinions when he enters a contest , Do they just give up because he enters a contest or actually feel like its more competition when he does enter a contest. Does T.G. pay him to be a ref. at these competitions that he observes or is it T.G.'s way of keeping the other players in line so they feel like they are having a level game field of game play? Todd may be a great player so to speak but again i would be intimidated if i was to play against him at a contest talk about pressure only to be in second place.Joy
I for one do not just give up.
If you look at the results from the Atari 7800 World Championship last year, Todd came in 2nd place... Yes, that 1st Place cert looks great on my gameroom wall...
-
Yeah! I'd also love to see the champ in action.
I have his scores for all the games I own taped
to my Atari. If I can get half of any score I'll be
quite happy.

If you can find a way to come to CGE or Fun Spot, you will be able to not only witness his gameplay but you can also play side-by-side with him. One of the great things about Todd is, while playing side-by-side, he'll share techniques and tips with you. I was able to improve my Dragster time from 6.5x secs to 5.81 secs in a matter of hours using his tips and techniques.

-
I just gotta ask,Does todd just play games? I mean his his life / hobby / job, just playing games?
I'd love to tell my parents "In your face!" They are so anti games and me playing them.
Anyways, todd seems to be a pretty amazing kinda person who i'd love to meet or at least see play. Are there any downloadable Todd recordings?
Cheers
Todd actually does many different things. He called me two nights ago from Austin, TX (casting call) to tell me he may end up moving to TX from FLA very soon. Great news for me since I'm only a few hours away in Phoenix, AZ.
To answer your question, yes, he spends LOTS of time playing games when not at work, etc. -
BTW... did we ever explain his impossible Barnstorming time? Or did we just leave it at "It must have been a PAL cart?"I have no doubt Todd can't out barnstorm anyone alive, but I wonder if it was just recorded wrong in the DB.
Actually, after investigating the score more closely, it was discovered Todd accomplished his score using a promo cart the folks from Activision brought to the Chicago CES in 1982. It was for that reason I removed the score from the dBase and posted a more current, legit score using a commercial cart.

Scott:
I'll dig into my tome of information and see if I can get some info for you on some (or all) of these.
-
Well with all these crudentals on Todd and the other players that were mentioned we should be writing books on them or having TwinGalaxies trading cards or something. I didn't realize that for someone who's been around as long as Todd has been why people don't know who he is .So why is it he was popular years ago then now people are having a hard time remembering him. just curious and i hope your flu Ron flys away and you get better . I just got over the flu myself .

Joy:
Todd was very well known way back when. Like most people after the crash of '84, they went on to other things. While we have never given up on playing Atari, Inty, Coleco, Commodore, etc., there was no way for our achievements to get recognized since the media no longer cared and arcades were closing left and right. Once the "retrogaming" scene started back up around 92'ish, some of us resurfaced. Todd had some things going on in his life that kept him from resurfacing until about 2 years ago. In fact, Todd has recently been on TechTV, G-4, and in several newspapers across the country. We at Twin Galaxies did a big write-up on his return to the videogame scene last year and are very happy he decided to get involved and join TG as a Referee for live events. I really can't explain why people don't remember him from days gone by. Folks like myself, David Yancey, Robert Mruczek and so on, remember him from the 80's as we were all trying to catch him on the games of the day like Dragster, Skiing, etc. Sorry for rambling on like that...

Thanks for the kind words about my current state of health. It's actually not as bad as the Bronchitis. The coughing fits are going to be the end of me it seems.

-
Ron come on.. you and I both know it's JOYSTIK not Joystick
ok ok.. it's just that you said "purists" (even though I certainly am not one)

Yep, you're right. I have been under the weather lately (Bronchitis & Flu) and feel miserable. I'll try not to make the same mistake again...

I have to agree with Steve... Get to round 8+ and then we'll talk about how simple the game is...
Here's a link to the Twin Galaxies scoreboard for DFire. Only Todd has smoked this title...
