  1. The main issue I've had is using too much CPU time with the pfread command to check for projectile <-> player collisions. At times I've gone over cycle with just 4 pfread commands in one game loop.

    Probably can mitigate this by checking only every other frame or more.

  2. I may be in on one of these. At $30, it's worth a shot and a hell of a lot cheaper than the Mega SG.

    It's a little less at Flashback Ltd. Plus, you get a discount if you use the code: gemintronic

    Supposedly I get a kickback at some point to buy me a coffee. Which is necessary when making Atari 2600 games (or dealing with soft collision on the Genesis).

  3. It's funny how many people RIP on this machine before it is released.

    I will probably buy it and it will be my first and only standup arcade system in my already mostly full of consoles gameroom.

    I see it has plenty of games including some awesome arcade ones,and I am not a person who needs to tweak it like a lot of people here talk about.

    I am probably a member of the target audience they are looking for.

    As long as the controls are sturdy and reliable with even as few as 20 great Arcade games I will be very happy with it!

    I think people are combining the possible worst case scenarios including:

    * NES ports substituted for arcade versions

    * Poor quality emulation

    * No updates for said emulation issues

    * Build quality

    I myself have experienced one or two of these issues but still buy AtGames products. Mainly supporting them when they put out products you can add your ROMs to (or have a cart slot.)

  4.

    I've not done anything further on the CD emulation yet. I've had to spend my time sorting out mundane things like the website / shop recently.

    I'm currently tying up lose ends such that I can get carts out to the beta testing people. Nearly there -- should be a couple of days.

    I kept my JagCD as a substitute for your wondrous new device. I bet people interested in homebrew dev are doing the same. So, needless to say, not a high priority for me :)

  5.

    You should make a quick video, showing how to open a cart, could be very useful for future generations. LOL

    You know I am busy, otherwise I would do it.

    The existing videos I've found on YouTube are pretty bad. One guy was violating a cart with a flat head screwdriver so bad I had to take a shower after watching.

  6. So, I was thinking of using my leftover commons for a new game. But, I'm especially challenged and keep losing the springs or other parts.

    Is the internal dust sleeve/shield really needed? After the springs are gone it kinda slides and makes broken sounding noises. Can those be left out?

    Don't hurt me :) I've never tried salvaging carts myself before. Any input would be appreciated.

  7. Are there enough O2 fans, repro makers and new game publishers to support a $5k purchase?

    I wonder if you could have a new cart design that has a bottom end separate from the main shell. The bottom end would come in different forms for each classic system: Coleco, Atari, O2, etc.. The bottom end would snap onto the main body.

    With niche markets like retro gaming the more potential customers (and systems) the better.

  8. I have a 14 year old PC running win7-64 in 4GB ram. While newer windows storage footprint might be bigger my understanding is memory management has improved. The cpu performance is comparable to the pc sticks. I can run golden age emulators, dosbox games from the early 1990s. And haven't seen a problem with any mame games I've tried. I do recommend disabling any unnecessary services and windows update is a pain in any version. I'd give the default os a shot before scrapping it.

    It might be the way I use Win 10. I hope people have better experiences then I have had with my Winbook, GPD Win, Compute Sticks and Atom based tablets. That being said, I'd take Win 7 over Win 10 any day of the week. Just too many weird processes slowing down my PCs and it constantly changes with updates. A customized Win 10 build reduces the resources and brings it closer to Win 7. But, that also requires a lot of know how to figure out what you can safely yank out. I sometimes forget that aspect :)

  9. There have been some questions about the controls and level design. So, here are my programmer rough instructions on the topics :)

    CONTROLS:
    * If either DIFFICULTY SWITCH is set to PRO directional clues are disabled during screen transitions. Hard mode is indicated by the bat icons holding chalices.
    * SELECT toggles between 3 game modes with varying maps: Simple, Normal and Semi-Random. Game mode number is displayed at the bottom center of the screen. A coinciding number of bat icons appears in the middle.
    * RESET reboots the console
    * FIRE button confirms selections and progresses screens outside of gameplay. In game FIRE allows the bat to fly higher and faster past screen boundaries. Timer must be purple in order to use this ability. Knabber Rob will squeak when soaring is activated.
    * JOYSTICK/DPAD press the joystick in the direction you intend the player to move. Pressing against walls can help induce flight. Please note that your bat will sometimes move of its own accord.

    GAME MODES:
    This game features two hand designed 256 screen worlds and a 256 screen procedurally augmented map.

    #1 Is the simplest world map. Each castle is always vertically aligned with its respective chest screen. Chest locations are adjacent to eachother. There are less impossible maze areas to get lost in.
    #2 Is the normal quest mode. Castles and respective chests are located all across the map. More impossible maze areas are present.
    #3 Castle and chest locations are the same as the normal map. Some screens are randomized and may change in subsequent mode 3 playthoughs. Please note after resetting or powering the system off the playthrough count will revert back to 1.

  10. Yeah, 4gb RAM and 64gb storage is bare minimum for Windows 10. My experience is that the TF card slots have really, REALLY bad performance. The onboard storage actually runs Windows worse than an external USB drive.

    To make this usable you need a custom stripped down Windows 10 install. I used to use Nlite to do so.

  11. Damn, I wish I had known about this convention! I would have gone. I guess there's next year.

    Yeah, I had no idea myself. But, a fellow AtariAge member Ricky Henry restarted this convention and invited me down. I have some unsold stock on Etsy. If you already have Upp! or Upp Plus it's the same game. Er, except the player sprite is the CinciClassic logo. The cart is bright orange too :) Instructions have a written thank you and my initials.

  12. I don't know assembler at all.. but, isn't the answer writing a standard mini kernel that checks for a flag. If the flag is true it jumps to a label set by a variable as a parameter. When the jumped to code section is done it returns to the mini kernel for cleanup and return to the canned main kernel?

  13. My experience with Rudy is he accidentally friended me on Facebook and I took him off. So, I don't know his intentions. I didn't remember the initial sale of this game feeling like a cash grab. Although there were some critical articles written about him in connection with the connotations behind this game.

  14. Same here. Definitely interested, and I understand you probably can't release a demo of the Rom, but a video would be great...

    Here's a very rough video playing through the first difficulty level. Sound is way down. This is not official media from Côté Gamers.. just the developer moving the joystick around and barely winning :)

    The row of yellow dots on the bottom left denotes items still misplaced. The row of yellow dots towards the bottom right are items placed in chests. So, you get a feel for how close you're getting to completion.

  15. According to Côté Gamers:

    The Official Title is therefore knabber rob. Funny Title? Not really, " to knab " in English means " seize with the teeth " and " to Rob " is " flying ", in the sense of Shirk. So this is the question of flying with your mouth and when you know that the character you're going to lead is a bat, we understand the title better, right?

    Knubberrub is the semi official name of the bat in Adventure. I wanted to pay homage by having a similar but legally distinct name front and center. :) "Knabber Rob" seems to have bat-like connotations in French.
