Scrolling Data for Levels (Standard Kernel, MultiSprite, DPC)
Gemintronic replied to Lewis2907's topic in batari Basic
Just to add one more example of 4 way scrolling: here is a "fixed" version of Freds maze craze example. Meaning, I adjusted a few things to work with newer versions of bB. Kinda hard to understand for me. But, may be useful as a point of reference mazecraze2b.bas -
eBay seems to have boxed copies available. Is there a sticker for Windows 95 on the laptop? You might not need to buy a physical copy if the license key is present.

Wrong answer. Or, at least a bit condescending / inaccurate. rpix86 and DOSbox ports have been around for years. Thingverse should have plenty of computer looking cases.

I noticed only the combination of these exact files allowed enough time to execute normal game operations - otherwise even a call to the rand command would cause things to go over cycle. I tested this with both "multi sprite" and "pfcolors no_blank_lines" without going over cycle. I have not tried the 4 score option (mainly because the below screenshot is what I need.) I also used the variable z for player1scorecolor as I intend to use the pfscore bars as well. playerscores.zip

Not real excited about porting well known games. How about a version where you play the "Boss" conian?
-
I have to say topics like this are a real disappointment. Not encouraging in any way. One way and one company is never going to sustain a platform. You choose what games you play. It's a smart move to support a thriving ecosystem that allows your gaming preferences a better chance of being served. More active developers directly feeds into that. You can also harbor resentment, stifle change and encourage that. I really, really hope this is not happening here.

This may work better for past era retail games. Not so much for today. You may get a limited run for an expo.. THEN an unlimited run later with improvements. I'd much rather read the informal customer reviews for each version. My two cents

Why is no one talking about this new Hyperkin Genesis HD clone?
Gemintronic replied to MantaNZ's topic in Sega Genesis
I need real hardware. Some of the previous "HD" systems turned out to be emulation although hinted at as hardware. I'll wait and see what happens with this one. Not part of the emu vs hardware crowd. Emulation tends to play a little too nice with the games I develop. I need something that will fail (and work) like a real system. -
I guess there's the question of literal rare and demand rare. I made 2 copies of a game called Candybar: one for me and one for the developers at Panic. https://panic.com/blog/candybar-2600-found/ Somehow I doubt anyone will be clamoring for it despite it's 2 copy limit

I have the source code to a game called M.M.S.B.C. 2 here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/207626-mmsbc-2-done/ It's not an example per se but it does showcase using missiles as player ships. It also timeshares the ball as a projectile for both players. It also manages to have different colors for the virtual projectiles even though it's the ball. Basically, it swaps a bluish color with a reddish color. This messes with the playfield color BUT you don't notice it so much because your eyes resolve it down to grey.

Nah. I just wanted to misspell a certain word again ~_^

custom fonts for bB, all-in-one score_graphics.asm
Gemintronic replied to RevEng's topic in batari Basic
I've learned to just not use the first and last column of pixels in score digits. Not really a bug but I bet it has to do with the tight timing needed to display the digits where they are. -
It's easy to miss, but Vladr once again found a convenient way out of his promises (emphasis, mine): He could have gone any other way than essentially saying "I'll take my non-existent ball and go home". It's too bad, because I think a lot of people would actually like to see just what he can do with it in a real setting. My first time dong carts were painful. Best to let him release when he fancies. I had a game for another platform that I was just about ready to put together carts for. At the last moment I discovered a deal breaker bug in the sound driver. Had to rewrite the whole damn game. Long story short: eagerness to rush something due to expo dates can lead to drain bamage.

I never got far in background color multi sprite experimentation. Mostly due to fear/uncertainty/denial regarding whether it'd work in the multi kernel framework. Also sprite position affects bands of color in the playfield which is distracting. Sometimes the color of rows change for mysterious reasons. I'd consider altering one of the score kernels to have a different (say, green) background color and pretend that is the green grass the player is standing on. UPDATE: I guess I should note that this is just my experience. *I* could be using the kernel mod wrong (or have a goofy environment that doesn't like it.)

I have an unpublished Fighting game called "Duel" under my belt. The main problem was finding moves and strategy with only one button. It's not a natural fit for the 2600 for sure. I wouldn't give up because of 2 examples though

UnoCart-2600 : a DIY SD multi-cart for the 2600

Well, shoot! Y'all ruined my backup plan if textual irritation didn't work! -
Why is the Xbox One Dashboard experience so horrible?
Gemintronic replied to DracIsBack's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
M$ has been moving towards a Windows that you rent with restrictions like a cellphone. Windows RT is a good example. They wanted to soften us up with the Windows Store and cellphone-esque tiles by flogging the interface on console gamers. Given enough exposure people start to think it's normal. -
UnoCart-2600 : a DIY SD multi-cart for the 2600
Gemintronic replied to electrotrains's topic in Atari 2600
I'm also eagerly awaiting certain features to be added to the Uno firmware for my own game development. Is there a changelog somewhere so I don't have to irritate you or DirtyHarry? -
Not sure if there's enough people excited about what makes this different from Adventure. If there is I wouldn't mind switching gears to make a similar but legally distinct homage.

Why do so many homebrew games don't have roms?
Gemintronic replied to Pixel Toad's topic in Atari 2600
Pretty much you have to invent a proprietary bank switching scheme and make agreements with emulator authors. Even after that people will find a justification for "liberating" your work. Note that I don't think the original poster is in this camp. They just didn't understand the implications. -
Attemping to code the Atari 2600 in C with CC65
Gemintronic replied to Fabrizio Caruso's topic in Atari 2600
Not a direct answer. I apologize in advance for that. You might consider something that is actively maintained such as this project: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/281105-open-source-c-project-template-now-available/ Pending that the 2600 has a ginormous amount of assembly resources. -
No idea without seeing your actual code. But, re-reading Random Terrains reference I'd play it safe by loading SuperChip variables into normal variables THEN doing any math. Maybe overkill but.. yeah. http://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-commands.html#superchipram

I've been dragging my feet so the original poster has nothing to worry about me. Just one game. What Plimpton said about Atari is finally setting in

Should we all stop developing new games and leave it to one publisher? Which one do you suggest?
-
Yeah, sorry if I confused my point. There is no excuse for the "author" of this Gyruss to continue profit off of this.
