Awesome reveiw, I think I saw a video back in the day of someone on some news show trying to use the thing. I saw one in a pawnshop once, but I literally knew nothing about it at all. Sounds like a cool concept, if a bit clumsy.
I imagine part of it's problem is, it's using essentially an infrared beam to bounce off the ceiling, so rather than a whole panel being able to read your movement, it's really only a beam, meaning you have to be considerably more precise than just "wave over the upper right area"
If I see one of these again, I'll probably pick it up and mess with it....but I doubt it'll make a permanent part of my game setup.
It actually is pretty precise, it's just that pulling off a move in a game isn't easy because you can't be quick enough. For example, in Mortal Kombat back, back, A is ridiculous because you have to quickly move your foot twice over the back panel and then use your hand over the A panel, and you just can't do that as fast as you can with a controller. I once did the first three acts of Sonic 2, and it was a nightmare.

I just saw this and had to look to see if there's a thread here.

$100 for a 4-switch and 70 common games isn't bad as a retail price, but that sucks for them because they need to sell it for a profit.

Anyone who out and out hates on a relatively major game system and calls it completely worthless.

I was just playing mine the other day. There aren't a lot of reviews on the web for it that are more than a paragraph long, and it doesn't even have it's own Wikipedia entry.
So, I thought I'd write a review and share it with y'all.
Sega Activator: Full Body Motion Controller
Enjoy. (or not)

Here's a quick update. After a bit of a search I now have three controllers for the Magnavox Odyssey. One I purchased from Mike at Collectors Cards and Games for $20. The other two came from the person I originally bought the system. I had stopped by their house about two weeks ago asking if they could locate the missing controllers. Last Friday they called stating they found them. I now have a near complete Magnavox Odyssey system.
Awesome! Welcome to the club! It's cool that you have the rifle. Those are kind of pricey.

I'll still buy it...
Ya, me too.

I didn't know where to put this, and I didn't find a previous thread on the topic. It's modern, yet it's retro... so who knows.
Anyways, I finally got around to turning my E3 notes on the game into a preview, so here it is if you want to read it.

I would really like one if it's still possible.

I always thought virtual pets were stupid.
Ya, where's the voting option for that?
The only one I tried was Chao Adventure on the Dreamcast VMU.

Impressive list, but there are a lot of problems here: (NERD POWERS ACTIVATE!!)
- First off, listing dedicated systems (pong machines) is a bad idea. There are literally thousands out there, and you'll NEVER manage to get all of them. I can't think of any off-hand that they don't mention, but I had some obscure one as a kid that is definitely not listed. Also, this makes the video rather long and boring, often showing the same system twice in a row because different manufacturers released the same thing.
- Including computers is also a bad idea, for most of the same reasons. Japanese computers is a whole can of worms in itself, and notable systems missing are the Sharp X1 and Sharp X68000. Not to mention there are probably hundreds of different models of MSX's out there...
- Including aftermarket Famiclones is probably a bad idea too, but I'm not going to argue it too much.
- The list includes prototype hardware, like the C-65, Commodore 364, Konix Multisystem, and Envisions Evo (Or did that one actually make it out?), as well as really silly hardware variants like the C64 Gold, C64 Aldi, and Amiga 2500 (Yet misses more interesting ones like the SX64).
- On the other hand, only one model of Apple II, Mac, and Archimedes are listed, when of course there were dozens of each. Several Atari 8-bit and ST models are missing, and the only PC computers shown are the 5150, 5160 (which is mislabelled as "1560"), and several Amstrad models... surely the PC Jr should be included if nothing else?
- Astrocade is screwed up here... they list "Bally Astrocade" released in 1977... which is correct, except that it was called the "Bally Home Library Computer" at this time, and wasn't renamed to "Astrocade" until 1982 when Astrovision was calling the shots. They later list "Bally Professional Arcade" in 1978, which is actually correct, as that was it's name at the time. The names of this system changed over time, and it gets a bit confusing, so I don't really blame them...
- Other stuff that's missing: Super A'Can, RDI Halcyon, Interton VC-4000 (though they do mention lots of its clones), BBC Micro (though they DID get the Atom and Electron... did I miss this one?), a whole bunch of CD-i models, one model of SegaCD (They show the model 1 MegaCD, but they list MegaDrive and Genesis separately, so I expected both SegaCD's), V.Smile & Leapster (Hey, if you're going to list Pico...), Game.com Pocket Pro, and Neo Geo CDZ.
Nit picks aside, I'm impressed that they got the Casio PV-1000, Loopy and Leisure Vision.
I agree with all of these things, and I noticed that some dates were off too.
Maybe we should make our own AtariAge video, and cut out the pongs, clones, and computers.

I just finished watching it. That was some good old-fashioned MTV 90's cheese. Pretty cool, though. I wonder how much Sega had to spend on that 30 minute infomercial disguised as a TV show.
The Genesis was the only 16-bit system I had back then, but I must have been too wrapped up in DOS gaming because I don't remember ever hearing about that game.
Chris
Really? Sonic & Knuckles was huge.

I have an odyssey lot on the way. It has 3 boxed systems with it so that would bring my total of 5 systems I own. So I will probably be putting a couple on gamegavel.com if you are interested in an odyssey. I will need to test them out before I put them up for auction so it will probably be a few weeks before I put them on for sale.
Do you have a carrying case or any of the '73 games for sale?

I defentily agree with this last part of this article:
"The game can't match "Halo 3" for visual beauty, but it is instantly accessible and offers old-school gamers something very rare: an opportunity to play a favorite franchise in a way that's both new and old, both surreal and familar."
That's also shockingly good writing.

Hey guys. We have a great new video up about the Atari Video System X. There's a nice little history lesson in the video, too. I think you'll enjoy it!

Anyone have a video of that MTV Sonic & Knuckles Tournament? I remember watching that as a kid and thinking how much better I could do than the contestants.

OK, seeing the ad for Odball makes me want a Magnavox Odyssey. Not an Odyssey ^2, the first one. So, I go on eBay (which is kind of needed in this case, unless you know another website that sells Odysseys.) and I see all these: Odyssey 400, Odyssey 500, Odyssey 300, etc. Do these accept the original Odyssey game cards or do I need to keep looking? I tried googling and didn't come up with anything, although the websites I did see make me want this even more.
You need to keep looking.
After the Odyssey and before Odyssey^2 Magnavox decided they could make a lot more money by selling just units with built in games. There are like a dozen or so of these. You're looking for the original 1972 Odyssey. Unfortunately, there aren't any eBay auctions for one right now. Beware of robotkingnes a.k.a. sams_super_systems. He won most of the Odyssey auctions for the past few years and is selling them with BINs for way more than they usually go for.
Wait for an actual auction to come up on eBay. A complete unit will set you back between $125 and $200 depending on the level of completeness, year, and condition.

And ya, 32X is better than Jaguar.
I can't wait to see the outcome of this statement.
What's wrong with Pitfall Mayan Adventure for 32X? I liked that one.
Nothing's wrong with it. It's really subjective. I didn't like this game in the first place, and it generally gets bad reviews. But if you like it, that's cool.
And I am not getting into a whole 32X vs. Jaguar debate. Last time I did I was temp-banned a few years ago.
What happened to Spider Man: Web of Fire on your list?
It's on there, number 18 in the "Not Crap."
Not Crap:
- Gekijoban Sangokushi IV
- DOOM
- Golf Magazine Presents: 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples
- Metal Head
- Star Trek Starfleet Academy Bridge Simulator
- Supreme Warrior
- The Amazing Spider-Man: Web of Fire
Seriously? I'll have to give a pass on Wall of Fire IV since I've never played it, although I'm sure it pales in comparison to the Saturn version. But I have issues with the rest.
Doom - Crap. Not full screen, cruddy frame rate, no side facing monster graphics.
Fred Couples - Looks mega grainy and digitized. It might play well though, I'll admit I've never tried it more than a few seconds.
Metal Head - REALLY bad frame rate issues.
Star Trek - Boring as all hell. Its not a bad game graphically, but it's a dull turd otherwise.
Supreme Warrior - Hahahaha.... Sorry that's all I can say about that one, other than to add another Hahahaha...
Spider-Man - Average at best. It might escape the crap list, but it's sure not a good game.
I'd also take Zaxxon off the crap list. Not a great game, but not a crap game either.

Still, to each his own I suppose.
Tempest
I went by other people's reviews for the 32X version of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV." Plus, it can't be much different than the SNES version, which was pretty good.
DOOM - Not crap. It may not be the best port out there, but as a stand alone game it's fine, and it a lot of fun.
Golf - This is surprisingly a good game, and I hate golf. I played through it once.
Metal Head - I have never had frame rate issues with this game. It's kind of generic and easy, but I still have fun with it.
Star Trek - Ya, it's boring. But it has a really good story and is definitely not for everyone. I am not a big fan of this kind of game, but the GameFAQs score is 7.2, so that's what I went with.
Supreme Warrior - That was a major typo on my part. Definitely total crap.
Spider-man - We agree.
Zaxxon - I guess it's subjective. I hated this game, so I called it crap.
- Gekijoban Sangokushi IV

PCBs came in the mail today, and they're printed correctly this time. I'll be spending this weekend folding the boxes.
Also, the Official Webpage is up.
