Games that surpassed your expectations
Rev. Rob replied to mbd30's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Huh? TGL was released in 1989; Zelda itself was released in 1987. He said it's like the original Zelda, i.e. it's similar. Not it's, you know, like the first Zelda game on the NES before there were any. -
just bought a sega genesis 3 and others
Rev. Rob replied to classicgamer24's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Is the Genesis 3 actually considered rare? It is, by far, the worst of the three models. I don't know why people say this. Because I actually like my Sega CD and 32X. Anyways, I've determined that these things aren't rare, they're just a novelty item. Nomad, CDX, X'Eye, now those are cool. X'Eye, by the way, has nice video output. -
Here's all I have to trade: Odyssey: Fun Zoo (Complete) Game Card #8 (Loose) Wipeout (Complete) Channel F: Pinball Challenge (#17) (Loose w/instructions)

It would be even better to get to play it on an actual VES.

What's the most I should pay for these systems?

My New Channel F Time Line w/Documentation
Rev. Rob replied to FND's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That would be great, I hope you have someting its been awhile since I found anything and I need a fix real bad I have more stuff but at quick glance these two jump out as interesting... THey are for a company called Microtronix that sold Fairchild stuff. Whats interesting is if you look they have the keyboard controller listed for sell at 9.95 each and 22-24 games are listed as K-1, K-2, K-3 so it seems that originally those games should have used the rumored keyboard controller. Totaly awsome do you mind if I add them to my site( of course I will give credit ) I have found one of the Microtonix carts with a rear label, I don't see any difference Yet The box and instructions have no differece either Rev. Rob thanks for the complement, also I have been meaning to ask if you would mind if I set up a link to your Controller page It would be direct link to your site and of course CREDIT will be included (If not I understand ) FND That would be fine by me, sir! -
My New Channel F Time Line w/Documentation

Completely awesome website. I totally loved it. I too am a big Channel F fan, and I am happy to see each time that someone does something to preserve and showcase its place in history. -

$180? Yeah, I think you got ripped. For that price you could've had a CIB X'Eye in great condition. Big time ripped. As for the Master System, the Master System II sucks. It doesn't play "card" games because it doesn't have the port for it. -

It would be awesome on the Vectrex. I don't think it could be done on the Odyssey, though Interplanetary Voyage is pretty good.

I love your blog! If you have any extra 1973 games, my money can become your money.

The hourglass is one of the pieces that came with the game. It's not an actual hourglass, it's just a game piece. So, ya, it's unique, and no, not replaceable. Funny... I bought a "complete" 'Quest for the Rings' from eBay, and it was missing the same piece! Anyhow. After extensively playing this game, I affirm that it's awful. Conquest of the World, on the other hand, is actually fun.

Debuted My New Video Series: Ancient DOS Games
Rev. Rob replied to Gemini's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Since when is 1990 ancient? That was good. I am looking forward to your upcoming review of Carmegeddon. I hope you post them all here. -
Usually, the rarest and most valuable games are those that come at the end of a console's life. The system is faded from memory, the production runs are low, and in five years when everyone wishes they had a copy, the price is through the roof. This effect can be multiplied if the system was never that popular in the first place. I point to "House of the Dead" for Saturn and "Iron Soldier 3" for NUON as examples. Here's my prediction for what in a few years will be an extremely rare and expensive: XaviXEYEHAND. I am just going to call it "EYEHAND" for short. XaviXPORT is a system that few are familiar with, but even in its fifth year on the market, none of the few games released for it have dropped in value. EYEHAND will likely be among the last North American releases, and the production run was low - and it won't go back into production. Buy it now for $70, and it a few years sell it for many times more. In addition, I think it's time to start keeping a look out for PS2 RPGs that are going to be released at the end of its life that will be desirable in the future, and also have very low print runs.

Link: http://www.gp2xstore.com/category_s/51.htm Pic: It does appear to be a real console. It takes cartridges and everything. It's advertised as "it also supports up to 300 types of 8 or 16bit licenses games by inserting the particular cartridge." Those licenses must be from Chinese flash programmers. Even with as much as Sega has been whoring themselves out lately, I am not surprised that not a single Genesis or Master System game is one of their touted "licensed" titles. There are, however, several game packs, including a 10in1 pack of 16-bit games, and four 25in1 volumes of 8-bit games. The 16-bit games seem to be the most popular ones that they could afford licenses for - that ought to leave consumers with a smile! With hits like "Yummy" and "Win or Lose" for their 16-bit pack, OneStation is on the right track. Oh, and who could forget the classic, "Get the Meet"? That game was awesome. The 8-bit lineup is just as impressive, incorporating nostalgic classics that we all know and love. Some that stand out are "Grass Cutter," "Paint Master," "Fancy Match," "Awake Baby," and "Fish Quiz." Surely, there is no doubt that OneStation is the only station for fun in the entire freaking universe.

Finally acknowledged! The Jaguar worst of all consoles!
Rev. Rob replied to vaf5136's topic in Atari Jaguar
Bally had some innovative controllers too. The Channel F's controller essentially had a four button controller. I didn't reference the NES as being the best, and I don't like the feel of them either. They were revolutionary in the sense that they introduced to the D-pad to consoles - something that we use to this day. I don't really like the joystick. When I play my 2600, I use Genesis controllers for every game that a paddle isn't needed for. -

That's because you clearly didn't play it or read any of the reviews that I posted. You probably also didn't know that you can control the goalies in that 'Hockey' game you mentioned. -

What the hell are you talking about now? The Astrocade/Videocade was not only released at a time before third party developers mattered (licensing was the name of the game back then), but the Bally machine has numerous fans who wrote and sold games for the system. As a result, it really hung in there for a while. Damn, dude. -
Told ya there was some good stuff. The 32X does not require the CD unit. As a matter of fact there are only about five or so 32X CD games, and they are by and large crap. Not all of them are crap... Metalhead Kolibri Shadow Squardon Supreme Warrior Virtua Racing Virtua Fighter He was saying that the 32X CD games were crap. None of the ones that you mentioned are CD games.

Now there's something I wish I had scans of!

I haven't played an APF-M1000 or the Imagination Machine. There's one on eBay right now that I was watching, but it went over $135, and well, forget about it. As for the Emerson Arcadia 2001, I am interested in it. It's only of those consoles that I watch for, but don't want to make the heavy financial investment in, unlike some other console that I collect for. It would certainly make a nice addition to my collection one day.

Come on... just look a how awesome the built-in Hockey games is: http://www.revrob.com/content/view/85/52/ Not to mention the bad-ass controllers: These were the best controllers until the NES hit almost a decade later! Moreover, there are these awesome games: - Drag Race(Review) - Video Wizball (Review) - Dodge It! (Review) -
I play it from time to time when I can convince one of my friends to play it with me. There are no "one player" games. Several of the games are very playable, especially the basics like Table Tennis, Hockey, and Handball. I find them to be enjoyable for the fact that they are as primitive as possible, and because the Odyssey's controllers have an "English" knob, that adds an element not usually seen. Keeping score on your own is kinda lame, though. Other games, like Football, are not playable at all, and reading the instructions is a big fat yawn that will leave you scratching your head. Yet others, (I'm looking at you, Simon Says), are just dumb. The light gun is the coolest console light gun I have ever seen, but mine only works three inches from the TV. I've heard that some do work, though. I can go on and on, but there's a blog here at Atari Age called Chronogamer, and the proprietor has some very detailed reviews of all Odyssey games. Pictures too! Link: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...;blogid=87& I don't agree with all of his opinions, but there's not a better source for Odyssey reviews anywhere on the internet.

I've never actually seen one on eBay before.
