  1. I hate when people say "just buy another one!"

Anybody have a spare working Jag for sale??

I'm only partially kidding here, I tried to bend the pins a little bit, and it seemed to work (Club Drive seems to have risen from the dead...not as horrible of a game as everyone says :) )

But I'm still getting nothing with AvP (the only game I actually want to play right now...)

When I finished with the pins (why so many pins?? And why such small holes to access them???), I popped in AvP and got a great looking title screen, and then it froze before going to character select screen.

So I restarted and tried to restore a previously saved game, again I saw garbled background graphics on the title and restore game screen, but anything "superimposed" was just fine. And all in-game (yes, the game loaded!!!) graphics were perfect, mind you, I died in 8 seconds (someone was pretty far along) so I didn't see much of the game.

On my third attempt, the game gave me the screwed up title screen, and it froze afterwards, and I was pretty much back to square 1.

I wonder if its just the pins for the higher memory addresses

I hate to sound like an idiotic newbie here, but do you happen to know which ones those are? If I can focus my efforts on those, I may get more conclusive results.

Thanks everyone for the help, and kind words...I think you guys are the only reason I'm still trying...

  2. OK, quick update:

Cleaned system and all games again. Most worked on first try, some took multiple tries.

    My "trouble" games...

Club Drive worked, once. I just tried it again, and I can't get it to the title screen again.

Aliens vs. Predator had a great looking title screen (no garbled graphics as I was having before) and then never made it to character selection screen. I hear some music, a Predator laugh, and then nothing...

    Trevor McFur still McFucked

Tempest 2000 still works 100% of the time...

Now, I want to try what Punisher 5.0 suggested and try bending the pins together, because I'm pretty sure now that a loose connection is the problem. One thing: when I open up systems, they tend not to live too much longer. So any detailed help you can give to help me get to the pins so I can try to bend them a bit would be appreciated. Thanks for all your help so far.

  3. Why not just buy a spare Jag?

    3 reasons...

    1. I'm a cheapskate, I bought mine brand new, and I'd really like to try and fix it.

    2. I haven't seen a Jaguar in the wild since the day I bought mine at a KB Toy Store liquidation sale for $25. (I don't use eBay, and I don't often trade or deal with folks through messageboards...I like to actually have the thing in my hands)

    3. I don't have unlimited room, so storing spare consoles "just in case" would be difficult (I do collect for over 30 different systems)

Thanks for the input guys...as soon as I am able to get to the basement again (hopefully tomorrow...) I'll work on it, and keep you all posted.

  4. On the radio:

"Hard To Say I'm Sorry" - Chicago

"Even the Nights Are Better" - Air Supply

"Do I Do" - Stevie Wonder

"Eye Of The Tiger" - Survivor

    "Abracadabra" - Steve Miller Band

What the hell radio station were they listing to?? WZZZ - The Lite FM...

Well, at least the Chicago song is good...

  5. Ironic, I'm listening to Warren Zevon's "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)" right now!!

My favorite is 2600 Ice Hockey, it was my first Activision patch game :D

Ice Hockey on NES, no goalie code, super puck code, 4 fat guys...RAWK!!!!

    Genny - NHL 93 no contest :)

SNES - NHL Stanley Cup, I liked that game when I first got it, it doesn't look good now, but it's still a fun game.

After that, the only one I have is NHL 2001 for the PS2...good game, my 'Lanche are undefeated 2 seasons straight :)

  6. It sounds like your copper female connector pins have lost their tension, thus giving you a poor connection. You can try and bend them inwards a little but that's about it.

Well, I know the meanings of all the words in that sentence, but when put together, I'm not getting it.

Wait, now that I'm slowing myself down a bit. Push the pins on the cartridge slot together...I see now.

Do they do the replacement connectors for Jag like they do NES???

  7. I would have said a dodgy connection, have you tried blowing on the connectors and in the port? I know it's not recommended, but am thinking that perhaps a little moisture may aid the contacts a little?

Yes, I have tried this. Yeah yeah I know about the blowing thing, but it is hard to break 20 years of successes :)

I may open it up, and take a peek around for anomalies...

if you are thinking of stomping on the Jag Base unit you don't have much to loose in trying.

Already done this as well by the way ;)

  8. Well, you could have heard me scream today if you were near my basement.

Well, I cleaned out my system, and here were the results:

A little dirt came out of the cart port.

Club Drive gives me a title screen before failing now.

Trevor McFur, my other non-working cart, still doesn't work.

Aliens vs. Predator won't even get to the title screen, and it even red screens me now!! And I know this cart is good!!

None of my other carts worked the first time I tried them after cleaning. But after a little "motivation" they all eventually did work.

Except Tempest 2000, that thing works 100% of the time!!

I'm about ready to just chuck the thing and expunge the Jaguar from my memory, and my collection.

Or I may be in the market for a 100% guaranteed working system...

  9. DEOn't have the game, so I don't know how much this will help you, but I found this info online.

    Cut-n-paste the relevant bits...

    (6) There were two types of light guns produced for Sega CD games.

The first is the "Justifier", by Konami, which is included with

Lethal Enforcers. It can be used to play these titles: "Lethal

Enforcers", "Lethal Enforcers 2", and "Snatcher". The other

light gun is by American Laser Games. It wasn't included with any

of their Sega CD titles, but had to be purchased separately. A

second gun (for player 2) was also made but is currently

hard-to-find. (Note: The Sega "Menacer" can also be used for

these games, but unlike the American Laser Games guns, the

Menacer requires batteries.) These guns can be used with the

following games: "Crime Patrol", "Mad Dog McCree", "Mad Dog

McCree II: The Lost Gold", and "Who Shot Johnny Rock". Also,

"Corpse Killer" (Digital Pictures) can be used with the Menacer.

    Hope this helps.

  10. OK, now, I freely admit, I hadn't turned the thing on in about 2 years. I didn't get any new games, and I was enamored with the ones I had (except Tempest 2000, and I had my fill of that one).

But this past weekend, I got a copy of Aliens vs. Predator at the flea market (thanks hex65000!!!!).

So I dust off the Jag...find an olf RF cable, and turn it on. It works all right at first, but there was a lot of intereference, so I searched for my AV cable.

I plugged it in, turned on my Jag, and it goes to the title screen, but it has this weird metallic look, only looking normal where the Alien and Predator names are located.

I tried to go to the character select screen, but the game freezes on a black screen.

The game worked perfectly when I bought it, because hex let me test it on his system at his booth.

I try a couple of other games, Club Drive (yeah, I know) doesn't work at all, past the Jaguar title screen. And Tempest 2000 works just fine.

I feel the problem is with my system, because I played the exact cart I now own at the flea market!!

Anyone have any clue what might be going on?
