I know of one Guncon compatible game missing from your list: Gunfighter (I think that is the name). It's one of these late release games...it's a lot of fun actually!! Kind of a wild west type game. Kind of lousy graphics though. Well worth the money.

I'll settle for a little stiff...better than too floaty in my book, thanks...I'll be on the lookout (although I'm guessing they aren't exactly cheap)

Well, it took me 10 days, but I tried cleaning out my controllers...and I got one of them sorta working. Enough to hit the start button at least, so I finally had a chance to play a 5200 game!! Hooray!!!! @ Mr. Retro...I'll probably be in the market for one of your kits eventually, money is very tight right now (and the next few months aren't looking very happy on that front). But as soon as I come out on the other side, I'll probably be in the market for one of those kits. So sorry (for now) but thanks so much for the offer. First impression...even with my Wico controller in locked mode, I find control too floaty for my tastes. I can barely control Pac-Man...Vanguard worked pretty well, but I found my ship going off in an odd direction one too many times... Looks good, love RealSports Baseball...have to give it another go next weekend. I'm still looking for a better replacement controller (I kind of need one with tighter respone) but for now, I'm just happy to have a solution that kinda sorta works

As far as mini-games go, there are 12 this time: all the old ones are back, with new modes, and there are six new games. I believe they all take the same 2500 play points to unlock (it has been a while since I've played it). For some reason, it didn't feel like I had to play as much to get them all unlocked. Monkey Race - More courses...more of the same...computer players seem to get unfair booss, almost impossible to catch up to. B- Monkey Fight - Again, a few new arenas, I like the mode where the floors break away as the fight goes on. For casual players and kids, this is the most fun game I believe. A- Monkey Bowling - 10 pin, 9 pin, and an odd challenge mode (with alleys that morph!!)...the monkey's now have different attributes i.e. Baby has a slow aiming arrow and goes mostly slow and straight, Gongon - all speed, little control...the other two are in the middle. A Monkey Target - Blech, They messed it up in this one...targets are too tough to hit, and you can only play a max of 6 rounds. There is an interesting "formation" variant where you can have 5 monkeys fly at the targets at the same time...mucho pointage in this one...D+ Monkey Golf - This time it's real golf (hooray!) the 2nd 9 holes were made by the Marquis de Sade. B Monkey Billiards - 9 ball, 8 ball, Japanese 9 ball and rotation...very solid. A New games: Monkey Dogfight - Bunch of monkeys flying around trying to shoot each other...pretty fun, pretty tough B+ Monkey Shot - Think House Of The Dead with monkeys A- Monkey Boat - Stupid. Boat racing game, lousy controls, no fun. F Monkey Soccer - I didn't enjoy this one very much. D Monkey Tennis - Decent game of tennis here, some people say this is the best new game, I like Dogfight and Baseball a little more. B Monkey Baseball - I really dig this one, although I admit it's not the best for parties. It doesn't play like real baseball, more like those old "Pitch and Bat" arcade machines...except on defense, you do get a couple fielders. More fun solo play I believe. B+ Hope that helps...

So, Chris...wanna help a brother out a bit??? May I ask where this store might be located?? At least a name, general vicinty...I'll take anything!!

SMB2 is my favorite GC game period. Saying that, I'd go with #1 as well, as it isn't as difficult, and none of the levels require blind luck to finish. Once you've gotten through all the levels...then move on to #2. I also recommend Jr. on the GBA...once you get used to the slightly different controls, it's a very good game as well. Make sure you get yourself 4 total controllers, and get a little Monkey Fight action going!! It's an absolute blast!! Anyone have an idea when #3 is showing up???

Just as a note...avoid the Hitchcock one. It is miserable. I got mine free, and still I brought it back.

Must just be dumb luck...but I've never had a problem with any employee at an EB store... I've also noticed that few of the employees are under 25 in the stores that I go to. Always clean stores, even the really tiny one, they are tightly packed, but clean. Very knowledgable...and they didn't even laugh at me when I bought Stretch Panic!! If I can't find it at a mom 'n pop...the only place I ever go is EB.

@ Liveinabin...it's odd, but in the Entertainment Weekly top 100 that just came out a week or two ago, Ms. Pac-Man was in something like #13, and Pac-Man was nowhere to be seen!! I think that Ms. Pac-Man is seen as a better game because of the changing mazes, not to mention the turbo versions that sprouted up...I first saw that innovation in Ms. Pac-Man And don't discount that ribbon...if anything told girls / women that arcades were all right to go into was Ms. Pac-Man!! No doubt Pac-Man is one of the most important games of all time, I think its standing as one of the best games of all time is, and can be questioned.

I think they are referring to the old one...since the newer one's official name is the Star Wars Trilogy I believe. I could be wrong...

I'm actually interested in getting the strategy guide for Roller Coaster Tycoon 2...not because I need help beating scenarios (that's not the hard part), but I'd like more insight into ways of improving the money making capabilities of my rides and such... I mean, I realize that charging $75 to get into my park, $8 for the big wooden roller coaster, and $3 for the toilet is making me good money. But I want to know if spending $5 on a flower bed next to the restroom will increase my profits at that restroom!!!!

Doom and Soul Caliber may be genre-defining and seminal and all that happy horse crap...but Tecmo Bowl, Yoshi's Island, and Punch Out are more FUN IMO. I would have thought Doom would have been a top 10 game personally as well though, but I think Soul Caliber was more of a revolution for fighting fanboys than it was for the casual videogamer. Just my 2 cents... One of the Pokemon games will make top 20...those games did more to shine a light on the RPG community, especially for the younger player who video games tend to be marketed to, than 50 Final Fantqasy games could have... Heck, I even like the Pokemon games, and I hate RPGs...

Dang it Inky...you beat me to it When I saw the user name, I knew either one of us would be the one to post that one... Oh and welcome Mr. Roboto!!
-
@Sku - I've tried that...remember the part about me knowing nothing about the innards of a video game system. Double that for the controllers...I'm going to have a go at them tonight, and see if I can get them put back together correctly this time, but I've not been successful as of yet @ Mr. Retro - PM sent

So.... How many of you used to play.... COMMANDER KEEN?

I had a ton of these old disks...I never could beat the shareware demos though, so I very rarely needed to get the full versions... My best friend just mentioned these yesterday, I'm going to see if I still have them...I want to play these things again!! -
I always thought that having to use a game guide to finish a game made you a weak gamer...until the day when I had to use one (actually, there doesn't seem to be a guide for the game I could really use one for...so this still stands ) Just my own personal feelings on the subject...

If anyone knows my struggles with the 5200, this may come as a shock. I fixed one of my systems. I decided that my 2-porter was the easiest to work with...I plugged it in to see what I was getting...nothing but a black screen. So I opened up my system, and didn't see anything wrong. Of course, I know less than nothing about the innards of a video game system. So I yanked out the RF cable, and replaced it with one I knew worked (my all-purpose one I hook everything up with. First time I turned on the system, nothing. Then I remembered to flip the switch on my switchbox. EUREKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 5200 turned on, with a crytally-clear picture!!! Woo-hoo!! So, then I go and plug in my Wico controller I bought at Cinciclassic 2001 but have never been able to use...I hook up one of my 5200 sticks to the other part of the Y-adapter, and hit start to play a rousing game of Vanguard. Nothing. I change 5200 controllers...again nothing. Crap. So now I have a working 5200, a working WICO controller (I know it works because I bought it right out of the guys system...) and no way to start the games. I've already tried cleaning the things...any other ideas?? Or does anyone have a cheap alternative to using a 5200 controller as a keypad??? Thanks.

Any particular part of SMB JR's level 13 that is particularly troubling?? I'll tell you, I can only beat the level with 1 or 2 seconds left on the clock, but I can get through it every time. Don't forget to use your A button to make the maze tilt farther...thereby making the monkey run faster...

Your absolute favorite GC game? (And why?)

Super Monkey Ball 2...just plain, fun, insane...love it. Magical Spell is Ei-Ei-Poo! -

Gran Turismo 3. I love that one, it's a definite must own. Haven't heard much good beyond the graphics on Auto Modellista. And $20 or less, Gran Turismo 3 can't be beat,

The majority of all my games, and cds I can remember exactly where I got it, and how much it cost me...I don't know why, but that kind of thing seems to stick with me... It would have been cool (albeit depressing) to keep track of exactly how much I've spent on all my stuff...

Any basic/simple games for the Xbox?
Scooterb23 replied to RangerG's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I just got back into playing Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions...that ones pretty easy, and lots of mayhem IMO. -
That is correct...I don't remember exactly when it came out on NES, it seems like 1986 or so IIRC. I don't think the NG version hit until 90 or so... If they would have left in the build your own team option, I would have no problems calling the NG version the best game ever. And my random congrats for a cool game pick tonight goes to Sam & Max Hit The Road...very nice...I haven't played it in years though. Grim Fandango must be on the list somewhere, it just has to...

I'm assuming you're talking about Baseball Stars with this one Starscream, and since this is the kind of banter these lists are made for...here's why I feel they chose the NES version over the NEO GEO version for this list... Graphically yes the NEO GEO version wins hands down. Not even going to try and fight that point. Gameplay is a push...although I think fielding is a touch easier on the NES... If I remember correctly, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't spent a ton of time with the NG version...you couldn't build your own team, and you couldn't hire / fire players on your team, correct? I think it is this level of management that pushes the NES version over the NG version. Plus you could improve your team over time in the NES version (again, if I'm missing some facts, let me know). Also, the fact that fewer people had a chance to play the NG version may have had some effect as well. My two cents, do with them what you will.
