CinciClassic attendees-show of hands!
Scooterb23 replied to Snider-man's topic in Classic Console Discussion
@ glitch, you were there at Station Head at 11 AM huh? I think I was there around 11:30 I think... Can't wait for this Saturday, btw, I have a wish list made up already!!! I was going to bring a trade box, but I realized the only stuff I really had were some uncommon NES games, and a couple uncommon 2600 carts...so I'm thinking that I should just leave that stuff home... -

Hey Glitch, if you haven't been there yet, I hit Station Head today, verrrrry disappointing. First off, the guy behind the counter was playing Jr. Pac-Man on MAME on their computer. I really pissed him off I think by trying to find out how much After Burner on the 32X was...it took him 3 minutes to come up with a $6.99 price tag that sounded more like an uneducated guess than an actual quote, he also had to quit his game of Jr. Pac-Man. $10 Sega Master System games, a couple of Game Gear titles under $10, tons of newer titles, nothing (save 6 SMS games) older than Genesis (even had their Genny stuff behind the counter!!!!) Prices seemed to be on a par to slightly higher than Funco. The rest of the mall though was a real throwback to me...it looks exactly like the malls in Indianapolis used to look like in about 1982...they even had an old style Spencer Gifts that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Tiny mall though... Another side trip for people going to Cinciclassic, about 30 miles N. of Cincy on I-75 (just an exit or two before Middletown mall) are two flea markets. Trader's World and Turtle Creek. One on either side of the interstate. Turtle has a good number of video game dealers, a good selection of older stuff, but they are pricey. Expect to pay $3-6 for loose 2600 games, the rarest games hit about 6 on the AA rarity scale. Trader's World is a lot larger, very quirky, bad music, and fewer game stalls. But the best deals are there, sometimes hard to find...Building 10 (IIRC) - Mega Man USA is the name of the best (using that term a bit loosely, you'll see why later) booth. They just started selling almost all of their loose 2600 stuff $2 each, 3 for $5. I picked up Star Trek, Front Line (to make up for me blowing cvga's Mastermind contest), and Slots for $5 total, and then he said, I have this double ended cart here too...Artillery Duel (my 2600 Holy Grail is now home!!!) and Chuck Norris Super Kicks for $5. Also a couple of boxes of manuals, listed at $1 each, but if the owner is gone, these get cheap!! I got a Coleco catalog that talked about LadyBug, Cosmic Avenger, and Turbo for the 2600 (as well as some games that actually DID get released!!) for 25 cents. They also have a Watara Supervision for $80 with 3 games... and they have Combat for 10 cents... This booth fell hard just a couple of minutes later because of some shady practices...as I was walking out I noticed they are now selling emulator discs They had NES emulator discs that ran on the Dreamcast for $15 apiece.. I probably should have said something about those discs, but it just made me so mad when I saw them that I just kind of stormed off... -

Well, you just wait, when I bring in my macrame Dance Dance Revolution mat, you will not be laughing Mr. Albert!!! Didn't you know that video game collecting was just a front for a huge underground knitting communtiy?? I would have won that knitting bee if I hadn't accidentally mixed my Yar and my Custer together in my "History of the 2600" quilt :x @Stan, yeah, I saw all that construction last year, and I was hoping that the mall would sping back to life, it's an awesome, and huge place. Too bad I can't go down for both days, but Saturday is going to be a major blast!!! Can't wait to meet you all there -
Sorry Jag, one, I don't have an XBOX (YET!! it is going to be an XBOX XMAS for me though!!!)), but I did play a little of 2002, and I wasn't impressed with it, too many graphical glitches, and it just got boring too fast. I haven't heard anything about 2003 at all yet, although I did see some of the same graphical glitches in the commercial (never a good sign). It didn't seem different enough to warrant the new release in my opinion.

Actually IceCold, expect a lot of knitting...that surpised me at last year's show It's really just like you expect, consoles, a few arcade machines, and a killer trivia contest. A lot of fun all around, plus it's in one of the strangest shopping centers I've ever been in. It's a huge place that was about 75% empty last year, but still hundreds of cars a day there!!! Odd. -

I'll be there...I plan on buying a bunch of stuff, mainly to try and fill some of the bigger holes in my collection... I was going to bring some trade stuff, but I've got nothing beyond some common 2600 games, and some junky NES junk... So I think I'll just go nuts buying stuff again!!! -

GBA: The Three Stooges by Cinemaware
Scooterb23 replied to Cybergoth's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Not a problem...it doesn't seem like the game is being pushed too hard, but I think it is a wonderful game...any chance I have to get the word out on a good game, I go for it. A hidden gem on several systems over the past 20 years -
Does Pinball for the NES count?? Anyway, my favorite Mario game was probably Super Mario Land for the Game Boy, I love the forced scrolling shooter levels. I felt the greatest sense of accomplishment when I finished that one. Probably because it was the first one that ever took more than one sitting to finish!!

GBA: The Three Stooges by Cinemaware
Scooterb23 replied to Cybergoth's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Here is your 30 second review of the Three Stooges for the Game Boy Advance. I originally wore this game out on my C64. Quite possibly my favorite C64 game ever. So I logically jumped on this one as soon as I saw it in a store. Graphically, the game is almost identical to the C64 version. Obviously, things are cleaned up a bit, and the animation seems to be more fluid, but overall the graphics were not changed. I don't play my GBA with sound on, so I can't relate how good the sound effects are, needless to say, they aren't crucial. Gameplay is where the biggest changes are. They have tweaked every mini game a little bit. - The pie throwing contest plays about the same, but there is also a pizza throwing competition (exactly the same gameplay). - The oyster cracker eating competition is a LOT HARDER. On the C64, when an oyster popped out of the soup, it would stay there for a second so you could grasp the cracker out of the mouth. No more, when an oyster pops up, if you are not already grabbing at that cracker, it's lost. - The hospital game plays the same, but your goal is different. In the old game you tried to race through 40 hallways before time runs out. Now you have to collect as many dropped surgical tools as you can before you hit 3 patients. - The "Boxing" game is about the same, only it seems a lot shorter, and a lot easier for Larry to make it to the radio store, and back to the arena. Everything else is just as you found it in the original; even the title screen when they walk into Defender of The Crown instead of their own game!! Bottom line, if you see this game in the store, and even have a slightly nostalgic twinge hit you, buy the game. Some of the minor tweaks might frost a purist, but they don't detract from the game at all. Also, it seems a lot harder to come up with the $5000, I used to be able to do it all the time with ease, but the best I've ever done in the GBA version is about $3850. Time to get back to it I guess!! -
Are Game.com's good on batteries?

Actually Christian, I have, and enjoy my Game.com. For some reason I just needed to bash it a little bit last night -
Are Game.com's good on batteries?
Scooterb23 replied to IceCold's topic in Modern Console Discussion
That's a good point Liquid...if you do get a Game.com stick to games like Lights Out, Henry, Wheel Of Fortune, Jeopardy, and avoid games like Sonic Jam and Duke Nukem 3D. -
Are Game.com's good on batteries?
Scooterb23 replied to IceCold's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well, a true cynic will say that the Game.com is great on batteries because you won't play it long enough to wear out a set. If I recall correctly (I haven't used mine in a while...) it is not backlit, so you will need a pretty good source of light from behind to play it. I think it is decent on batteries, it only uses 2 "AA" betteries I think. It did have an AC adapter thankfully. Really, most of the games are pretty bad on the Game.com. It still has some good uses, but I'd get a Neo Geo pocket, of a GameBoy or an Xbox, backpack, 200 miles of extension cord, and a 20 inch tv on a rolling cart before I'd get a Game.com as a portable gaming system...
