Its a shame that the shooter that the creators of Super Burnout were working on didnt get teleased. The only screenshot i have seen of it looked incredible! Also Conan and Deathwatch looked great. Atari should have focused a little more on 2d stuff that wasnt just ports of 16 bit games. Well, on to play a little more of Raiden, right now i am switching between the Jag, Playstation, Marty and Pc Engine ports, and although the Jag version isnt arcade perfect like the PS1game, i like it equal, because of its uniqueness since it doesnt mimic the arcade as much as the other ports. Now if only we had gotten Raiden 2...

Sorry, my time machine is currently out of order. Hehe, can you tell english isnt my first language?. I kinda suck at it. I meant if there might be a project like i mentiond being worked on right now.

By now every Jag fan knows what an amazing 3D engine AtariOwl has created for his Adv/rpg project, it is really showing what the Jag was really capable of as well as a statement of Owls talent of course. So i was wondering if there is some homebrew that will show us in the near future what the Jag is capable of in the 2d realm. I remember Gorf mentioning that someone had an engine with something like: 128 64x64 sprites at once, with scaling , rotation, multiple background layers and high color pallette. Or something like that hehe. I think he only mentioned the engine specs but no game type o whatsoever. I had high hopes for Legion Force Jidai, the Metal Slug/Contra type game, but havent heard anything about it for a while. And the chances of seeing Native finished seem dead. So does anyone know if there is a project thats gonna flex the Jags 2d muscle in the future?

Huh??? Why would they want Checkered flag when they already had Virtua Racing on the Genesis (graphics are a bit uglier but it plays a lot better) and a much better version soon on the 32x? Besides, checkered flag would have similar limitations and cost issues to Virtua Racing on the Genesis. (with SVP chip) Pete was being sarcastic about Checkered Flag kitty, i tought it was pretty funny, hehe. -
God, just imagine for a second, the amazing library that the Game Boy had, but taking advantage of the Lynx more advanced capabilities...can you say greatest console ever...or at least one of the most highly regarded.

Could you show us some of the work you have done for Yie are kung fu, Kung fu and Ikari Warriors. Sounds really interesting! I remember a while ago finding a Lynx rom of Street Fighter 2, with very little gameplay but it looked really nice. Could never find it again though, there was also one for Ghosts and Goblins. Does anybody know who made those?

It´s time to post this pic again it seems.... Dont tell me that awesome screenshot is from a Lynx game... man it looks great!

I have 2 suggestions: An action/adventure/rpg with a little inspiration on the Zelda games, that uses a combination of voxels and polygons to create a look thats never been seen on the home console market, never. I dare anyone to mention a game whose engine is similar to this. And you need a Jaguar to experience it, hehe. Also, a Rescue on Fractalus remake, with a voxel engine as good as AtariOwls or Phase Zeros!!!!

A multiplayer Kart game has always been at around the top of my wish list of Lynx games. It probably would be missing the rotating playfield, but would feature sprite scaling, something that not even the SNES Super Mario Kart had! This are the 10 games that i would love to see in the Lynx: *Bonk/PC Denjin clone: We got Zaku which is inspired on Bonks pal Zonk, so why not a Bonk clone?, that type of graphics would look great on the Lynx it could even add some parallax that not even the PC Engine game had! Oh and lets not forget some tasteful scaling effects here and there! *A FPS ala Catacoms 3d: Something like Wolfenstein would probably be too much for the Lynx, but something along the lines of Catacomb 3d should be possible. *An Outrun style game: Oh yeah, putting the Lynx awesome scaling effects to good use. *A Zelda clone: Enough said. *A Final Fantasy clone: Ditto. *A multiplayer Kart game: *A River City Ransom clone: Lynx has the muscle to display lots of sprites asses to beat around, right? *Contra clone: Making over the top use of the Lynx special effects on its graphics, now that is my wet dream! *Action game ala Strider or Shinobi or the old Castlevanias: *A decent one on one fighting game: That is designed with the Lynx hardware in mind, you can get some pretty nice gameplay on just 2 action butons. Just look at CAPCOM VS SNK on Neo Geo Pocket Color. I CAN DREAM RIGHT?!

Hmm... a beat em up for the Lynx... i would like to see something similar to River City Ransom!!!

Well, the Turbo has a higher resolution, can display way more colors and has more sound channels. The only advantage the Lynx might have is in the graphical effects department, such as scaling. I have seen the Turbo throw some insane amount of sprites on screen at very high speeds, something i have rarely seen the Lynx do. On the other hand the Lynx seems to have an easier time displaying multiple layers of pharallax than the Turbo. The Turbo has 6 channels of sound and the Lynx only 4, but the ones in the Lynx seem to be of higher quality to my ears, hehe. Also, there are no games on the Turbo that replicate the experience of games like Warbirds, Battlewheels, Virus, etc., with their 3Dish effects. While the Lynx seemed to have no problem replicating one of the best Turbo games with Zaku, which is inspired on Air Zonk, right? I am saying this based on my playing experience, i really dont know how to interpret hardware specs. Then again, the Turbo Express is based on a home console, the PC Engine, and costed way more than the Lynx back in the day. Much like the Nomad was based on the Genesis, so they are kinda cheating, hehe. Was the Lynx more advanced overall than the Neo Geo Pocket Color and the Wonderswan Color?

I would love to see a Contra style game on the Lynx, with some pharallax, scaling and rotation effects. Haha, i always vote for Contra in this type of treads, as long as the systems library lacks such type of game, of course.

I love to read your posts koolkitty, you always bring up interesting stuff.

With the Jags awesome 2d capabilities, i would love to see a Contra style game with over the top sprite and background effects. Contra The Alien Wars and Contra The Hard Corps each pushed the SNES and Megadrive pretty hard when it came to that regard, so just thinking about what the Jag would be capable of doing on a similar game blows my mind. Tons of sprites and background layers, thousands of colors, scaling, rotation, lightning, transparency... man that would be amazing.

Sorry Vicman, i dont know were you can find any games. But here are some youtube videos for those interesteed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8i6y1s6YB0&feature=related

Gorf, are we too far away from seeing some media of your stuff? Owls project video has me wanting to see more Jaguar awesome incredibleness!!!! No, because we will not release any such media until the product is ready for release (proividing we bother to release anything.) Burned once, shame on them. Burned twice, shame on us. I am sorry Gorf, but i had to ask. Owls video left me horny for more Jag stuff. hehe. Back to topic, i showed my brother the video, since he is not a Jag fan (Sony fanboy), and he couldnt believe that this is for the Jaggy, he was really impressed, not only by the graphics but said that it looks really interesting, hehe, the nonbeliever. I think this project will convert him into one of us Jagfans .

Just saw the new video, my jaw dropped when i saw the indoor enviroment in action , then i put attention to the music and wow... its great ! Owl, have you had Jaguar consoles actually explode from the stress of drawing those amazing graphics? This is shaping up better than i could ever expect. I wish i had a fraction of the talent the people involved in this project have. Great job, congratulations !

Thats really cool!

I know i am gonna sound like an ungrateful btch, and that coding anything in the Jag is not easy at all, but... would it be posible to give the graphics a high color count like the beautiful 3DO version of Another World?
-
Damn, those indoor screenshots look terrific. I had no idea they would look so good man. They look better than a lot of playstation polygonal games... i love voxels! Love the art direction too, this is looking incredible so far, hard to believe its a Jaguar game. Owl, you are really one of a kind, keep up the amazing work you are doing!!!

Good point, and games like Battlewheels and Blue Lightning are even more impressive than a lot of 16-bit home console games. Double Dracon on Lynx looks closer to the Megadrive port than to the NES, Master System and 7800 ports. Platformers on Lynx usually feature numerous layers of pharallax and huge sprites without the amount of slowdown and flicker the NES generation games had. On the other hand, the Lynx resolution is closer to that one of the NES generation as is the number of colors it displays on screen at once, and as is the number of channels of sound (just 4), even if they are pretty nice. Anyway as it was already said, the bittness talk is pretty pointless.

The frame rate in Panzer Dragoon Saga when flying your dragon is not bad, but when exploring towns it is really low, so low that i stopped playing the game when i got to the first town in disgust. I had wanted to play that game for years and when i finally had it, the frame rate killed it for me. But then i did what i always do when a great game is held back by low frame reates. I just fire up 3DO Doom, play it for 3 or 4 levels, and then i got back to PD Saga, and it felt silky smooth!, er, not quiet but it felt much better . That trick works 90% of the time . -
I dont like Tempest X graphics, everything has that generic polygonal look (since everything is polygons in this one) and i dont like its special fx neither, i prefer Tempest 2000 on the Jag, followed by the Saturn port. Tempest X is good, but the polygonal look and some of the gameplay diferences make it finish in 3rd place for me. And no, i am not biased towards the Jag .
