  1. mcjakeqcool, i have a FM TOWNS Marty, and i have to say that the Jag easly beats it in 3d, and also on 2d, no contest. FM TOWNS Marty is more in the league of the CD32 and the Neo Geo (i would say its a little more powerful than those 2). Its got some awesome ports of Raiden, Tatsujin Oh (Truxton 2), Splatterhouse, The New Zealand Stroy, etc, and lotss of cool rpgs, and great ports of Lucasarts point and click adventures fom back in the day.
  2. Regarding Power Drift, i have read that not even the Saturn delivered an arcade perfect port of it, apparently, it took the Dreamcast to finally receive and perfect port of it in the console market. Thats how impresive Power Drifts engine was for its time.
  3. oky2000, did you just say that "Need for Speed on the 3DO is quite damned impressive as is Doom too"?. You are kidding about the 3DO Doom part, right?, because that is one of the worst ports on the history of consoles, considering what the 3DO can do. 3DO Doom is terrible on every level except sound, wich is really good, great music!
  4. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Now for the bad news...I owe you a mea culpa. Jag ram is 2 meg, same as a PSX or a Saturn. A strategy game it can do in it's sleep. But the fighters...? It's a good thing I picked out high definition games with low animation sets as the CD examples. I'm not sure a "Mark of the Wolves" would be possible. Your hypothetical memory expansion cart could be up to 6 meg, but the catch is that you're going to need incredible skills to bypass the 68000 and sync up the rest of the system. Just how good are you? Actually the Saturn has 4.5 megs of ram, and PS1 has 4 megs. Unfortunately, if those consoles had trouble retaining the amount of frames of animation of late Neo Geo fighters, the Jag would fare much worse in that regard since it only has about half the amount of RAM that Saturn and PS1 have. I mean, really, some of the Playstation ports of Neo Geo fighters were a joke because of how much animation was lost, the gameplay was ruined due to it. Is there a work around to this?, how about using the CF cart as the storage media?, is that still being worked on?
  5. rygar, you are my new idol! I want one of those!
  6. I just saw a video on youtube, where a person is playing its Atari Lynx, and the image is being displayed by an image projector. Does anyone know how to do this?. In the video i dont see any cable coming out of the Lynx, so i have no idea how it works. That user also posted a video of herself playing her Lynx trough a joystick. I alreadey posted a question on youtube, its really interesting. Hope to get an answer soon, although the user seem to be italian, hope she speaks english.
  7. Poor Jaggy, it really didnt have a chance right?, with the way it was treated by most developers.
  8. Have you guys been playing certain Jag titles, and at one point you think: "you know, this games engine could have made a nice game on this other genre". For example, its happened to me with a few games, such as: -Club Drive: The San Francisco level is pretty big and varied. You begin at one side of the San Francisco bridge, you cross it, drive around a bunch of streets along with a park, then take a tunnel, drive trough a mountain pass, and finally arrive to the beach. I love that level, and it could have made for a pretty cool game of Twisted Metal or Driver. Also, the giant house level could make for a pretty cool 3d platformer ala Toy Story 2, it always reminds me of that game on PS1. -Kasumi Ninja: pretty impressive graphics, could have made Mortal Kombat 2 with that engine. -Highlander: to make a rpg ala Final Fantasy 7 -Hover Strike CD: amazing texture mapping, i wish it had been used on a racing game a la Need for Speed on 3DO. Since the playing area would be smaller due to the nature or racing games as opposed to HSCD go everywhere enviroments, you would of course have a longer draw distance and smoother frame rate. Just daydreaming about the Jag, so dont take this thread or my ideas too seriously.
  9. Sounds really amazing Gorf. So if this methods had been used back in the Jaguar days, we would have had AVP and Hoversttrike CD running at 30 frames per second, Battlemorph and Skyhammer with a longer draw distance, more texture mapping on Iron Soldier and Club Drive, etc? If so, darn, it would have been awesome.
  10. I appologize...there are three with fighting elments. Legion Force Jedi action shooter/fighter Battle Puzzler fighter action puzzler Not My Hood side scrolling fighter w/3D elements So we have: Legion Force Jedi Metal Slug/Gunstar Heroes Jag Style Battle Puzzler Super Puzzle Fighter Jag Style Not My Hood Streets of Rage Jag Style God, those would be awesome aditions to the Jag library. Gorf has the classic shooters covered , and Terance seems to have the fighter genre covered. I hope i live long enough to see this stuff released. Have you seen Terance games in action, Gorf, could you tell us a little about them? Then there is Atari Owls project, wich has always given me the vibe that it will rock. I dont know why i get that vibe since i dont know anything about it. Must be because Atari Owl is a cool name, and people with cool names make cool games .
  11. What are we talking about here?, an almost perfect port audio, video and gameplay-wise, or just about recreating the gameplay experience (the important thing) even if the audio/visuals take a (big?) hit. Take for example the Master Ssytem version of Double Dragon. Its far from the audio/visual quality of the arcade game, and even the gameplay takes a hit due to the lesser technology (lots of sprite flicker, slowdown), but to me and most people i know, its still a pretty good game, and IMHO captures the essence of the original arcade game. Take also the Saturn port of the original Daytona. To most it looks like ass. Compared to the arcade original, there is a huge drop in the polygon count per frame, its running like at half the frame rate, at a lower resolution, with horrible clipping problems. But you know what?, it still plays like a dream . Hell, i think the gameplay is better than on the Dreamcast Daytona!, and i know lots of people think the same. In any case the drop in overall quality of the port cant be as bad as the diference between the 2600 port of Double Dragon and its arcade father, right??¡¡¡ I believe that a pretty competent port could be achieved, but thats this Jags fan biased opinion. Hey, i gotta believe!! And hey, like such a port would ever happen, no chance in hell .
  12. Ah, Die Hard Arcade. A very ugly looking game, but plays great, very fun. Probably the best polygonal beat-em-up from its era. Cant say if the Jag could handle it, only guys like Gorf, Atari Owl, etc, could tell for sure. The camera is usually fixed, and the game uses lots of sprites along with the polygons to create the backgrounds. Characters have pretty low polygon counts and their animation is nothing to write home about. Also the texture mapping can get pretty ugly in this game. If thats the best an in house Sega team could do, then its probably pushing the Saturn quiet a bit: Then again, after seeing the Saturn Shenmue, maybe Die Hard Arcade isnt pushing the Saturn at all! Oh, of course, a Fighting Force beta for Saturn was recently found, wich looks quiet better than Die Hard Arcade, so the later isnt pushing the Saturn that much after all, but in my opinion Fighting Force plays way worst than DHA, no matter what FF version it is, PS1, N64, or Sat. The JAG RULES!!!!, and because of that, it can recreat most gameplay experiences that PS1, SAT, N64 can do, even if it wont end up having the same levels of geometry and texture mapping. THE JAG RULES BABY!!
  13. Yeah, i love comparing titles that appeared on many consoles too.
  14. Actually the Sega Master System is the succesor to the Sega1000. The SG1000 is hardware wise, basically a Colecovision, check out the specs on Wiki. The Master System is easly more powerful than the SG1000, but it also is backward compatible with it. SG1000 also got an interesting port of Pitfall 2 that looks quiet diferent from the ports on the 5200 and Colecovision, as well as other nice ports of Sega arcade games from the time, many of them exclusive to the SG1000.
  15. Well, i would say any game with a polygon based engine that appeared on the Jaguar, can not be done on SNES or Genesis effectibly, unless they run at a frame per year, and the color count was reduced to a handful. Just check out Hard Driving and Steel Talons on those systems. Its like the Jag attempting to run Dreamcast games! As for the SNES handling AVP, just look at how the SNES port of Wolfenstein turned out, AVP would turn out way worst not only looks wise but i think also the AI would suffer.
  16. Darn, there will be no video? I was awaiting it as the big event for the Jaguar this year. I felt like a Trekie waiting for a new Star Trek film! Anyway, its a shame, but you must have your reasons not to release it Gorf, and i respect that.
  17. Its been stated many time Beau, that the Jag is in the same league as the Saturn and PS1, when it comes to 2d. So the comparison with SNES is laughable. The only issue the Jag has in 2d is the lack of RAM when compared with Saturn and Playstation, it only has half what those other consoles have.
  18. OMFG! Think of the posibilities! Any projects in mind for this engine?

    7800 UFO!

Gorf, the hope of one day seeing your projects released, is what keeps this Jag-fan fire burning .

    7800 UFO!

Wasnt there a Jag version of UFO! in the oven, or did i dream that one? .
  21. sd32

    7800 UFO!

Gorf, that looks f-king awesome!. Now, about that 3DSTOGGES teaser video...
  22. Takeda-san, are your videos taken from the emulator or the game console?, do you have any more?. After watching them, i think i will have to buy all those games, especially Y2 Monster Land!
  23. Thank you Takeda-san, for giving us such indepth info on this console, its really hard (imposible?) to find information about it on american websites. In your opinion, what are the 10 best games for the SCV?, the "killer apps", so to speak.
  24. Thanks for the advice Clint, i think i will get the beta first and later the official version.
  25. Unfortunately, the problems with Fight For Life seem to go deeper than its graphics, wich are actually great by Jag standards, so a smother frame rate wouldnt rteally save the game. Still, i hope to get FFL at some point, if only cuz its the only Jag polygonal fighting game...
