Seriously, that's a pretty sweet and awesome job by you. It took me a considerable amount of time to get as good as the above. I'm sure you could achieve it in a fraction of the time it took me, if you so desired, considering how quickly you beat the initial game.
Hats off to you sir, bravo!

P.S. Extra cheers for screen capturing Round 2 and not Round 1.

Figured I'd only post the one you posted. I was so close to no continues yesterday and literally 5-8 messed with me and I continued 6 times! However, after the secret level and warps I got through level 5-8 with out continuing....Guess I still have something to push for on the next play through. :DI like what PMP did with the continues. In Mario there is a point system but honestly it feels out of place and not needed. With Bentley I not only want to beat it but I like that I'm pushing to get the bonus too.

I am glad ATgames is finally taking steps towards something that is much better than their previous offerings. I hoped they would have not included the homebrew shovelware this time. Once again ATgames decides to put filler "fluff" over the quality games. I do really like the fact that they put master system and game gear games on this too. I just wish they left off the filler fluff so they could focus on the game selection a bit more. I do realize that licensing means no obvious choices spider-man, tmnt hyperstone heist, xmen 2 clone wars, etc. Here is what it boils down to for me. This would make a superb xmas gift if ONLY someone can confirm they squashed all the audio bugs and get the newest flashback to sound exactly like a real genesis, IE correct pitch and tone etc. If ATgames cannot do this then simply contact steve snake and use his sound code for his excellent Kega Fusion emulator and viola, problem solved.
I would stop worrying about those extra games. It isn't like those are the reason they keep off some gem classics. Pretty easy to ignore them on my handheld.

The secret level doesn't work on cart, I disabled it with the hardware.
That's a mean joke but would make the search for it easier.

And to assist in keeping you motivated in finding the Secret Level/Level 6...
..."SL 6" is a mix of environments beginning and ending with a unique one not experienced elsewhere in the game (Not captured above
).Nice. I want to figure out the warps it's just hard to keep searching when I've blown through it twice... my thumb hurts. I guess since I've done a decent beginning to end run I can goof around looking for fake platforms and walls.

I need the energy for the boss fights. Thats where I run out and bentley dies!!
Always run until you see one enemy. Kill it and run on. In the more heavily platfor areas try going to edge before jumping. Kill enemy if appear. Run jump then run to next edge. I dont remember which but i think there was only one boss that i was in the second to last portion of energy on.
Also run like he'll when you get the hat. But be conservative when it starts flashing so you don't accidently run into that bad guy after it's gone.

Nope...Difficulty is the same.
I agree with you about the game being fair and plenty of power-ups in areas with more difficult enemies. Not to forget the unlimited continues as well. Granted some rounds may be more challenging than others (Just like most other games). Nevertheless, it is very well balanced.
It just may be a case of different strokes for different folks. Some excel in platform games and even then, only specific kinds.
Others who don't perform as well under this platformer may excel in other types of genres.
Although, some too, may have played with Bentley stuck in 'walk only' mode due to incorrectly set Difficulty Switches. Issue perhaps compounded, if people were utilizing the ProSystem emulator with "broke" Difficulty Switch settings at the time.

Yeah you aren't going to get over much jumping without the run feature.
Most of my deaths came from me basically making a stupid button press. Game should come with a poster that says keep calm and Bentley on. Even at a steady pace you won't run out of energy. Unless the secret level is brutal which I haven't played yet.

Maybe its a woodgrain dock for the nintendo switch

I skimmed the thread best I could. Was the difficulty lowered from all the complaints? Other than the 5-8 heads having different speeds messing me up I didn't feel it was that difficult. I think most of the difficulty comes from crappy 7800 controllers. Otherwise I think this game is overly fair and powerful are plenty in areas with higher up bad guys.
I've found Level 1 and 4 warps. If I have time tonight might try and check a spot that I think might be a secret but didn't try on the long play through.

Spiffy. I think the box should be blacker with the woodgrain box.Hey guys, go to the ataribox Facebook page, whatever this thing is, it looks like it'll have two models. One with woodgrain, and one with a light orange color.
Wonder if this is what's inside? http://www.funstockretro.co.uk/eagle-box-android-retro-games-console

Did he find the secret level? I can't see that forum so I don't know...
I did not but I warped passed world four too. So today I'm going to go back through and play again.

Ok, so I'll be the odd man out that admits I miss being able to duck the enemy shots. Otherwise the new control scheme works just fine. Takes some finesse to collect trash at the top of the screen, but as soon as you learn that it's walking straight up or down that triggers the cans/bags, it's not so bad.
I haven't ran into a scenario where ducking saved or would have saved me.

Do you mean make animations of him walking backon and front on? I could, indeed, but I have no idea if it would fit. The character is made from two sprites. So that would require 8 or something more sprites for extra animations, but the controller would accept it no problem. bank limitation is tight. But its a thought.
I would love that. I was obsessed with Contra and similar type games growing up. The influence is probably obvious hehe.
Joystick with no button - walking.
Joystick with button pushed - Up = open can; down = pickup animation; diagonal is diagonal shots; forward = shot forward.
Basically can it function like it does now and just add the animations to the up down plus button push?

Don't forget that it's your game, and it's okay to do things in the way that makes the most sense to you, ultimately, even if some here have different ideas. :-)
This is very true. I'm excited to see this develop as I haven't seen a game like this developed for the 2600. This could lead to a contra type port possibly

Would you be able to make the animations if pressing up and down with the button pressed?Sweet! I assume it's what people were talking about they would like to see. Not sure how else I would do it. Is it similar to what you were thinking for controls? (minus the new bugs lol)
I found it better for battle, actually I found it to make the battle more of a challenge for some reason, even though you got more movement. So that's fine with me. It feels nicer, but I miss the animations lol Gonna have to suck it up and find another purpose for them somehow or use the free'd rom space for something else. Glad you like it better though.
-
I know I said I wouldn't do any update until later. But since I started this topic the "walking" topic is driving me crazy haha. so I opened up the game and had a look inside.to see what could be done just now. I made a couple changes to the controller, and those changes have a butterfly effect, it breaks other things, so ignore those lol. For now look at the walking without crouch and aim. Does that feel more natural?
I find it interesting you can still collect garbage if you go DOWN over the bags. And open up a garbagecan if you go UPWARd, then downward again to collect the bag inside. This all would have to be redone, but interesting how it still kinda works out
Let me know if this is any better. I like it better personally. It is much easier to explore and battle being able to move up and down. I don't feel like it takes away from the game by removing the squating.

Yeah I think if it can't be figured out removed. Moving diagonally is a chore. Otherwise I think this is looking good.

Reflex is cool. Any others I'm missing out on besides the first star castle?

I found a rom for Reflex. Is this considered no longer obtainable because it's no longer in a store?

Hmm....I think that means I need to make more games.
Can't have too many action adventure RPG's on the 2600.

Just representative of the products they discuss. It's what happens when the hype runs out.
Kind of like the CV strong arming thread.

Is it possible to make it so that if you press the button + UP or button + DOWN to open can or crouch. That way regular joystick action would move the character around the screen and holding the button and moving the stick would initiate an action.
Is that possible?
This is what I was wondering. Only walking up or down diagonally is not ideal. Not sure how that would affect shooting though.
Other than that I'm liking it so far.

What's the main differences between EMR, Epic Adventure, and EMR II? I have EMR and thinking of getting Epic as i wait for EMR II.

Been away for a little while what happened to the new 7800 homebrews?

I think subscriptions is one of those things that Al really appreciates but doesn't want to be pushy about it. I have been a lurker for years as I can't really provide much insight into the history beyond that I played it when I was a kid. I try and follow some homebrew stuff and any new products coming out. Since I've started to try and buy more homebrews and that I've used the site for years I thought it was time I subscribed and actually just renewed it towards the end of June.
