Always wondering: why does Hollywood cast actors for German-speaking roles who have an abominable pronunciation (e.g. Denis O'Hare in "True Blood" - esp. in direct comparison to the excellent German of Alexander Skarsgård)?

Horror , movies, creature flicks etc, OK I "GET" why the characters involved act the way they do, I truly do not believe normal people would act the same way in similar situations, like WHY do some characters just STAND THERE when a creature is attacking someone else? WHY when they finally get the upper hand the walk away or do not check the creature is dead etc? I know it would make a short movie but damn THEY ALL DESERVE TO DIE LOL!
