I used to feed a squirrel in my backyard.  I'd leave the kitchen door open and sometimes squirrels would come in the house.

One time, I was asleep on the couch, and the next thing I know, two little paws are on my stomach, waking me up!

True story.  Ya gotta love it.

  10. Totally agree with VGC's review of 2600 Double Dragon, but... cracks me up when people don't realize they're playing the PAL version of a game. Or post PAL pics in NTSC land. Hey, I see AA's screenshots show the PAL version of the same exact screenshot too... coincidence? Well, we know he didn't source the pic from Atarimania. They're all NTSC.  lol

I remember in the early 90's, a coworker telling me she had Double Dragon for the 2600 BITD. I didn't believe her and thought she was mistaken. Fast forward to the late 90's when I found a copy or read about it online and yep, she was right! Funny how certain games like this (despite the fact I was shopping in stores that should have carried the game) eluded some of us for so long. The few remaining Atari retailers at the time must have been super picky about what they carried - but I remember said retailers selling all the blue label Activision re-runs. They had bulk stacks and games on rotating racks of all that late 80's stuff. Ghostbusters, River Raid II, etc. Just never saw Double Dragon for the VCS. 7800 for that matter.

Yeah, the "dead" restaurant scenario is a tricky one. Here in The Dells where tourism makes up a majority of revenue and only during prime months, I'm told it's hard to keep good people. Thing is, a restaurant isn't going to pay someone to stand around and not sell food. Some of them even close during off months. So those people know going into it, that it's a part time or seasonal gig at best. Exactly all people seem to want to work anymore anyway (proven when they're calling in "sick" once or twice a week) - so you'd think it *should* be a win-win. Stay at home with family and take care of your home during the harsh winter months or find another part time/seasonal job and "diversify" if you want. PLENTY of jobs around here. More jobs than there are people willing to work in fact.

And Sears *are* to blame for their company's image for sure. Again, they switched their workforce from well dressed suited competent-professional to incompetent-contemporary donned in khakis, short sleeve polos and lanyard name badges. I was there in the early 2000's when our GM said we "needed" to compete with Walmart. Said that was Sears' main competitor. Pffft. We all knew that was so far off and not so coincidentally, that's exactly when they decided to sell lower-end gear and slashed commissions and spiffs to reflect the poor margins of said shit gear. The smarter salespeople left to seek work elsewhere and what was left, you couldn't distinguish from the brainless zombies at Walmart. Got exactly what they wanted; the inevitable race to the bottom.

Pizza Hut will be next since they believe and are convinced their competition is Little Caesar's. All but the thin crust dough comes frozen now, pre-made. Took chicken out of the white pasta and leaf lettuce from the buffet. Stores are shrinking and 500+ are being converted to carry-out only - trying to do what they can to stay afloat.

I was watching some videos the other week from an American who travels a lot. He put up things like what to expect when you visit Wales (yeah, it does rain A LOT), or things to expect when you visit the US. One of the things he said was that visitors' minds are often blown away by the fact that servers can't do enough for you. It's because they want that tip at the end.

But, something else I discovered was that restaurant prices aren't what you pay. You have the tip (service charge) + any sales tax on top when you get your bill. That would irritate the hell out of me. I like to have some idea of how much I'm paying for something. It reminds me of when I bought my first ST by mail order - the ad made it look like a good deal but I was young and stoopid. It said "+VAT". I thought that meant it included VAT. Nope. Ended up costing me just £3 less than if I'd walked into a local store.

      jd_1138

GoldLeader, Amazon still sells them.  :) Back when I was buying them in 1st and 2nd grade, the local general store in the small town sold them.  They had a small school supply section with Big Chief tablets for us little dudes, standard packs of paper for the bigger kids, #2 pencils, Bic ball points, Pee Chee folders, rulers, erasers.

This store was around since like 1900 in that small Oklahoma town.  We'd go there for soda (ice cold out of a vintage ice chest) and one of those tough leathery strips of beef jerky in the glass container near the register.  This was 1979-1982 that we lived in that small town.

I first heard of "influencers" around the time the Fyre Festival was the hot item to talk about.

Kendall Jenner was paid $250,000 for an Instagram post about it.  She got in legal hot water because she didn't state it was an ad:

Amir's conclusion was that the MAX burger had better texture but too little salt, and in combination with the spicy jalapeno and otherwise mild avocado and pickled red onion, it drowned in hot spices but nothing else. The Burger King one had slightly worse texture but tasted better and in this case was paired with traditional Whopper ingredients and spices which allowed the burger taste to become more apparent. Also there is a price difference of about $1.50 in BK's favor here.

I have a $10 Black and Decker coffeemaker. You go to push the on button, and the thing is so light (even with 4 cups of water in it) that the unit slides backwards. So you have to hold the unit down.  Not a big deal especially on a cheap unit.  We're spoiled with cheap products, but they are definitely "cheap".

Yes, you can customize the "Unread Content" query, save it, and then make it the default.  To select which forums you want to see, click the "Content Types" menu, then "Topics", and then you can go through all the forums and select which ones you want to see.  Apply changes when you're done, make any other changes you want, then click "Save As New Stream".  You can then click the checkmark next to the stream name to set it as your default stream.

Tombstone is definitely one of the better Westerns I've seen.  Good, Bad & Ugly, Once Upon A Time In The West, Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter, Wild Bunch, Shootist, etc.  Tombstone ranks among those for me.  Even if Kurt Russell isn't really that great an actor.

    3. Kobra Kai

      Kobra Kai

Tombstone and Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp are a great bellweather on knowing if someone is full of bullshit about the topic of the Earps. It's almost conventional wisdom that the Kevin Costner flick is 'more accurate'. That is complete bullshit. If you ever read any books about Wyatt Earp, I recommend Inventing Wyatt Earp, but you'll actually find out that Tombstone was the better representation of the happenings, especially the way all the characters looked.

    4. Kobra Kai

      Kobra Kai

I don't know how the movie Wyatt Earp became the film that people associate with accuracy, I think it's because it has some pre-Tombstone era stuff in Dodge City. Maybe it's just assumed that Tombstone isn't historically accurate because it's such a flashy 'action' style western. Don't get me wrong, there's alot of hollywood goofs in Tombstone, but it generally gets it right.
