Well, they may not be expecting to pay you. We do interviews for some of our shows with various hobbyists/experts and we don't pay them to be in the show. For many people, it's a thrill to share their knowledge or be on TV.

It's an original game loosely based on the Frenzy game for the ColecoVision.Loosely?

Play it. It's definitely based on Frenzy but there's other objectives besides killing robots in this. Our idea on this was kind of a Super Frenzy.

(Atari 5200 carts would have won if listed. Just plain annoying.)I ended up putting side labels from a Brother P-Touch on them and the N64 carts so I could stack/display them easier.

oh wait...video game central video is even better. drugs?I sure better run over to their site and throw money at them...
That really made me laugh because I know that guy in the video. Videogame Central used to be called GamesUSA and they had a shop right down the street from me. I'd be in there every weekend looking for stuff so we used to talk. Then one day I go to my buddies annual 4th of July barbeque and there is the Videogame Central guy.
As for drugs... yeah that would be my guess.

This is weird! I started playing this emulated in Meka. For the first level I went right and then on the 2nd I went left. As I approached the brick sign to finish the level, I jumped and went past it. The level didn't end. I kept going left and it was like the level restarted but the timer was still down like I had been playing. I got killed soon after so I wasn't able to go through it again to see if it would end when I got to the brick sign again.
Anybody else ever experience this?

Some kids are mature enough to keep it in perspective and not get involved with some of the more creepy online elements.creepy online elements?
Are you referring to thinking she has found a "buddy" and then wants to meet in real life?
Keep in mind, I really don't know anything about this game but I am going to look around, google it and what have you but I wanted to see what you guys/gals thought of the game.
Yeah, guys trolling for girls or very adult conversations, etc.
In a related but OT note, I had a near heart attack when I saw my 16 year old niece's myspace page. I made the mistake of reading the messages her friends sent. They are just as bad as stuff my friends and I send each other. I did make her take her age and location off of it though. That seemed like asking for a freak to come calling.

IDG puts out GamePro mag. I'd call them reputable.

The comment section when you scroll down made me laugh
"What has nine arms and sucks?"
:rolling: -
I like a lot of modern stuff but never as much as my retro stuff. Old games are just more fun for me.

Nice to see a Goodwill somewhere is still putting out the finds. Its been a long time since I've scored anything in a thrift here. Thats a good find on the GB stuff.I still get a pretty regular supply of Genny/SegaCD/NES/GB games from my local Goodwill too. I go there every week and I'd say I get at least one cart @75% of the time.
-
That sucks. I wonder why they would do that?

Medieval Mayhem is so damn good, I'm not sure it needs a sequel! The only thing I would suggest would be a boss fight at the end of a regular round. It could be sort of like Breakout but you're trying to hit the dragon while she spits fireballs at you. You'd have to keep from missing your own fireball while dodging getting hit by hers. Once you conquer her, then it moves to the next round.
-
It looks cool, nice job! I'll have to try the demo at home later

These guys seem to buy it. Notice the "not a prank" in the text.

I'll have to play this one emulated, I've never come across this cart in the wild.

The majority of people here in the UK don't earn $4k per month either (even with the distended exchange rate at the moment that works out to be about 2000 GBP before tax, or about 1400 GBP after tax)... and the cost of living here is higher than in general America. I don't know about California but I've been told it's fairly high by comparison. I would wager a lot of people would love to earn that sort of money per month...(I'm one of those "lucky" ones who does earn about that level however)
Cost of living varies wildly in the US. I make a good deal more than $4K a month but for where I live, I'm solidly middle class. There's many places where if I had the same money coming in, I'd be called wealthy.
Of course if I lived in those places, I wouldn't get paid this much so it's all relative.
-
I rather keep my "wildy unrealistic expectations" and preserve the fun for my hobby. Which is much more worth to me than a big $$$ check. And that's why I like your games are better than his Thomas. The enthusiasm for the game and work in making it is readily apparent on every screen.

It's not 1979. No one is paying you a 'real' salary to program for the VCS with the idea the money will be recouped through millions of sales. Your game is not going to sell millions. Realistically you'll sell them all for between $50-$75 each so price it in that range. You can't expect a real salary for a niche hobby. If that's not your worth your time, don't do it. It wouldn't break my heart not to play your game. There's tons of homebrews that are priced fairly for the community that many of us would be happy to support instead.
I don't consider 4K/ month a real salary .. not even close. Do you?
Sure, it could be for somebody. I make more than that but you're missing my point anyway. Programming VCS games in 2008 is not a real job and will never be in the future. You can't expect to get paid for it at the same level as a job that's actually in demand by more than niche hobby market. I don't care whether it's fun for you or not it's realistically looking at your situation.

Food for thought for everyone: What if this wasn't Rob posting this poll and query? What if a "typical" modern Atari homebrewer (take your pick amongst the many we know) made this exact same post and poll, asking just how much he could charge for his new game and what his time was worth to you? How much different would be the attitudes and replies posted? Considerably different, I would guess. Not for me, my reply would be exactly the same.

For the ColecoVision: Frantic

Frenzy was the sequel to Berzerk. While Berzerk was ported to a few different home consoles, I think Colecovision is the only one to get Frenzy. Frenzy plays similar to Berzerk except it has walls you can shoot through, rebounding shot walls and Otto can be killed temporaily. Frantic has all of those extra features too and some new ones.
I don't know if you can play NTSC games on a PAL console. You can try it emulated on your computer though.
