That's a really cool way to teach these kids something about team work/coperation. It reminds me of my mom trying to get the owners of the nursing home she runs to buy a few GBAs because she discovered they seem to like Tetris and some of the puzzle games. The owners said no but some of the residents have asked their relatives to get them one. My mom, a crusader for video games and old people!

As an avid CV collector I can say that the paragraph you included appears on EVERY Coleco game manual except obviously they changed the game name.
Which is the bigger hype? Coleco's "Fun of Discovery" nonsense or Magnavox's constant exclamation points and ridiculously over exagerrated descriptions of the O2 games?

I would just keep clean 'em again with alcohol. I had a Kaboom I had to clean 4 times with alcohol and use the eraser inbetween each one. Works fine now.

I'm with you Stan. Space Cavern isn't too thrilling. Even with the variations. It plays like a hundred other mediocore shooters on the VCS.
-
On both the VCS and the CV version, I'm stuck at Level 15. I think HERO is definetely my favorite game of all time. I would love to see a GBA version with new graphics ala Metroid Fusion. No 3D stuff, just 2D like the original.

I'm not surprised the GC was on top. I have always thought Nintendo's ratio of releases vs. good games to be very high. I am suprised to how the GBA fared. I just got it but have been very impressed so far. Maybe people are expecting too much from a handheld vs. a dediacted console?

I actually just sold my copy on Half.com a few months ago. I couldn't resist. I paid $5 at a used book store and sold it for $42. That $37 paid for a winning bid on a bunch of Sega stuff.

OK in the time I typed the last post he cleared it up!
BTW, BP that is a great book, I just read it earlier this year.

BlackjackArrggh. Can't believe anyone likes this game.
You need to upgrade to Casino--much better game of blackjack.
Anyone else see the irony in Big Player not liking Blackjack?
in case you don't his avatar is the cover of The Big Player book by Ken Uston a professional blackjack card counter

Holy cow! What would a person do with over 70 2600's? Maybe this is like that story from years ago (probably Urban Legend) where the Texas billionaire tried to secretly buy up all the silver mines/properties in the world to drive up the price and make himself rich...
Perhaps if I strike it rich I'll buy up all the 2600's in the world and drive the price through the roof! (hey - it's worked with the US Post Office and the Falcon030, hasn't it?)
Cheers!
Joey
The Texas billionaire you refer to was actually 2 guys. The Hunt brothers and that's not urban legend. It's true. By the time the market dropped out on them they only had 10 million left from over a billion.

Nope. It's the only boxing game I completely suck at.

WOW Your funcolands still carry 2600, SegaCD, 32x, and SMS games? All the ones in my area are now game stops and don't carry anything older than DC other than NES. They still have a paultry supply of Genesis games but they are fazing them out so it's primarily sports titles now. Wished I lived where you do. Atari finds around here are slim to none, I may find a few common 2600 carts at the thrifts or yard sales about 2 or 3 times a year at most.No that stuff I got at GamesUSA. My Funcoland is just as crappy as yours!
-
Thrift find: Firefly .99
I went to Funcoland and GamesUSA and blew $80 in Xmas dough on:
Namco Museum - GBA
Tetris World - GBA
Star Wars Arcade - 32x
Mad Dog Mccree - Sega CD
Lethal Enforcers I & II plus a gun - Sega CD
Sears version of Air Sea Battle - 2600
Tee Off - DC
Tony Hawk - DC
Rocky - SMS
Great Football - SMS
Great Baseball - SMS
Gotcha - NES
ESPN Track and Field - DC
I still have some Xmas dough left so they'll be another round soon. probably DC gun, House of the Dead, and Sega Smash Pack for DC.

If people would just look after the Fucking things there wouldn't be
so much NES bashing, I mean WTF is with that. Its a beuatiful and
reliable machine and all people can do is bag it out well Fuck all who
disrespect the greatest games companys greatest console

HEAR HEAR!!!
I love the NES and all of Nintendo's other systems too. Well maybe not Virtual Boy...You know what though... I love all of the Sega stuff too!! Any reasonable gamer will tell you both companies have made some great and not so great stuff. The key is to enjoy them all.

WOW!!!

It's good on the 5200 but I don't like the 2600 version at all.
-
Oh yeah Blueprint on the 2600 is terrible...
-
HERO -This may be my favorite game of all time
Pressure Cooker
Missle Command
Mountain King
Kaboom
Warlords
All of these are way better then any 3D, real time, polygon nonsense.
-
Karate - is there any controll at all or is this completely random?
2600 Donkey Kong
Space Shuttle ( I finished it once when it came out and will never ty it again)
Golf
Slot Machine
Strawberry Shortcake
Basic Math
the original Football (or Ghostball as we called it as kids due to the flickering)
Everything else I can usually get some mild pleasure from playing

"Pong" was an Atari product but is usually used to describe a whole slew of dedicated console games that came out pre-2600 and could play variations of the 2 paddles and a ball games. These were imaginatively referred to as hockey, jai lai, tennis, vollyball, etc. They were all pong but played on its side or just the top half of the screen. The 2600 has a pong cart but it's called Video Olympics which is a way better title then 50 variations of Pong.
Magnavox made the first version of Pong but it was called Odyssey and it predated Atari's Pong.

My first arcade game experience was at a little luncheonette near my house when I was 7. My friends and I would go there to buy candy and play pinball. Eventually they got a Space Invaders and Sprint 2 machine. I was hooked forever. I had to stand on a milk crate to play them because I was (and still am for that matter) short.

Something just popped into my head regarding violence in games. If you took a game like GTA3 and changed it so that all of the characters were aliens instead of humans, I doubt there would be so many complaints about it. It seems it's always OK to kill, maim and hurt aliens.
-
I actually go about 2 or 3 times a month top a bar near me that has a huge arcade attached to it. I blow about $20 on Atari Football (Xs & Os!), Area 51, Golden Tee, and Outrun. It's great because all of the machines have a beer holder attachment and ashtrays.

You don't really believe these games have disproportioned super human half naked females to appeal to art lovers do you? You're kidding right?
In my post I mentioned the real porn, and getting out more. This is meant to encourage the members of the community that real life still beats the snot out of video games. I love games but locking yourself in a room to get horny over a video game is not as rewarding or healthy as going out and meeting real women. There is no argument you can make to refute that. I also mentioned in my post to play the game first to
check out the gameplay not just buy it for polygon tittie screens. We've all played games that looked great and played like crap.
