  1. I'm not surprised the GC was on top. I have always thought Nintendo's ratio of releases vs. good games to be very high. I am suprised to how the GBA fared. I just got it but have been very impressed so far. Maybe people are expecting too much from a handheld vs. a dediacted console?
  2. I actually just sold my copy on Half.com a few months ago. I couldn't resist. I paid $5 at a used book store and sold it for $42. That $37 paid for a winning bid on a bunch of Sega stuff.
  3. OK in the time I typed the last post he cleared it up! BTW, BP that is a great book, I just read it earlier this year.
  4. Arrggh. Can't believe anyone likes this game. You need to upgrade to Casino--much better game of blackjack. Anyone else see the irony in Big Player not liking Blackjack? in case you don't his avatar is the cover of The Big Player book by Ken Uston a professional blackjack card counter
  5. The Texas billionaire you refer to was actually 2 guys. The Hunt brothers and that's not urban legend. It's true. By the time the market dropped out on them they only had 10 million left from over a billion.
  6. Nope. It's the only boxing game I completely suck at.
  7. No that stuff I got at GamesUSA. My Funcoland is just as crappy as yours!
  8. Thrift find: Firefly .99 I went to Funcoland and GamesUSA and blew $80 in Xmas dough on: Namco Museum - GBA Tetris World - GBA Star Wars Arcade - 32x Mad Dog Mccree - Sega CD Lethal Enforcers I & II plus a gun - Sega CD Sears version of Air Sea Battle - 2600 Tee Off - DC Tony Hawk - DC Rocky - SMS Great Football - SMS Great Baseball - SMS Gotcha - NES ESPN Track and Field - DC I still have some Xmas dough left so they'll be another round soon. probably DC gun, House of the Dead, and Sega Smash Pack for DC.
  9. HEAR HEAR!!! I love the NES and all of Nintendo's other systems too. Well maybe not Virtual Boy... You know what though... I love all of the Sega stuff too!! Any reasonable gamer will tell you both companies have made some great and not so great stuff. The key is to enjoy them all.
  10. WOW!!! Many thanks for the kudos on my new avatar. I made it at work while I was very bored. A couple of AA members have PMed me on it also which is very cool. Witchfynde, if you want I would be happy to make you a new avatar. Just give me some idea of what you'd like and I can whip something up. You can PM or email if you orefer. Thanks again everybody!
  11. It's good on the 5200 but I don't like the 2600 version at all.
  12. Oh yeah Blueprint on the 2600 is terrible...
  13. HERO -This may be my favorite game of all time Pressure Cooker Missle Command Mountain King Kaboom Warlords All of these are way better then any 3D, real time, polygon nonsense.
  14. Karate - is there any controll at all or is this completely random? 2600 Donkey Kong Space Shuttle ( I finished it once when it came out and will never ty it again) Golf Slot Machine Strawberry Shortcake Basic Math the original Football (or Ghostball as we called it as kids due to the flickering) Everything else I can usually get some mild pleasure from playing
  15. "Pong" was an Atari product but is usually used to describe a whole slew of dedicated console games that came out pre-2600 and could play variations of the 2 paddles and a ball games. These were imaginatively referred to as hockey, jai lai, tennis, vollyball, etc. They were all pong but played on its side or just the top half of the screen. The 2600 has a pong cart but it's called Video Olympics which is a way better title then 50 variations of Pong. Magnavox made the first version of Pong but it was called Odyssey and it predated Atari's Pong.
  16. My first arcade game experience was at a little luncheonette near my house when I was 7. My friends and I would go there to buy candy and play pinball. Eventually they got a Space Invaders and Sprint 2 machine. I was hooked forever. I had to stand on a milk crate to play them because I was (and still am for that matter) short.
  17. Something just popped into my head regarding violence in games. If you took a game like GTA3 and changed it so that all of the characters were aliens instead of humans, I doubt there would be so many complaints about it. It seems it's always OK to kill, maim and hurt aliens.
  18. I actually go about 2 or 3 times a month top a bar near me that has a huge arcade attached to it. I blow about $20 on Atari Football (Xs & Os!), Area 51, Golden Tee, and Outrun. It's great because all of the machines have a beer holder attachment and ashtrays.
  19. Does this count as videogame violence? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2612747.stm
  20. I would rent this first and see if the game play is good. I think the people who buy a video game for how "sexy" the characters are need to get out more. There's plenty of free porn on the net if anyone wants it or better yet go out and talk to real women.
  21. I think part of the arcade crash had to do with the cost of the games themselves to both the operater and the player. Many of the games were more expensive for the arcade owners so they raised the playing price to .50 and more for some games. Since the games probably all seemed the same to the parents they would be less likely to hand over more money for them. I seem to remember reading also that many of the arcades switched to skee ball/skill games because they turned just as much profit and didn't need to be constantly updated. They could also run the tickets for crappy prize scam from skee ball machines that little kids love so much. Let's not forget also that arcades were generally loud dark places filled with violent teenage boys. Parents weren't too thrilled to be there. Many store owners probably got tired of kids hanging around if the machines weren't making much profit. I know I got thrown out of many a pizza place in my youth
  22. All of the Mario Party games are great and very kid friendly. They are still pricey even though they are used. Waverace 64 and Pilotwings 64 are also very fun and kid friendly.
  23. Just picked up the super crappy Firefly for the 2600 for .99 on Sunday. Label is OK with a little wear on the edge.
  24. Frostbite is a good game, it shows the quality of the Activision titles and isn't mentioned much by people. The other one I really love that nobody seems to mention is Cosmic Commuter.
