  1. Incredibly tough to choose between, SMB, Contra, Castlevania and Mega Man but I guess I have to say Super Mario Bros. 1, 2,3. The NES library is amazing.
  2. Good call, Beauty and the Beast is a great game and 1000x better than INTV DK. The Imagic and Activision games on the INTV really stand out from the rest of the libary. Most of those games are good to excellent. They are really the only games I still play on my INTV.
  3. yeah both Clubhouse Games and Touchmaster are excellent compilations. They both get a lot of play in my house.
  4. Well, yeah, of course we disagree. I'm not saying you're outright wrong. I'm trying to understand why you think that way. I like the SMS a lot but it flickers on lots of games too and it's game library is not much different than the NES. That kind of hinders your points in my eyes. Some games the SMS does better(like Double Dragon) but really any genre on the SMS is available on the NES in an almost as good or sometimes better game. If you totally just reject the NES outright though, you'll never see that.
  5. I would argue that this is to the NES' detriment. Too much shovelware. You'd rather a library of only 20 good games and the rest is so-so to bad over a library with a 100+ good games with the rest being crap? I know it takes more effort to sort through the crap in the NES catalog but in the end I think there's just more games worth playing than the 7800.
  6. That is big but is it bigger than a 5200 or CV trakball?
  7. I've had a different experience. The only systems I've had totally die on me were a 5200, 2 Gennys, a PS1 and an O2. I've never had a NES that needed more than a good cleaning of both the carts and the cart connector. in the last few years, I've cleaned NES' that have been sitting in musty basements for almost 20 years and every one worked with a little TLC. The NES library is enormous. There's tons of games that are not cutesy little kid games.
  8. Ok, that makes more sense but you didn't say that before. The joystick/roller switch probably just needs cleaning or one of the contacts came loose.
  9. that is a cool presentation. Sooooooooooo 70's in the fonts and color choices. I surprised those IBMs weren't available in avocado and orange like home appliances back then
  10. There was but we're talking the VCS and there's no Food fight for the VCS.
  11. Actually no, I don't. You're saying the commercials said you could play joystick games with the trakball in trakball mode? Wouldn't it be more likely they had it in joystick mode but used the trakball?
  12. I guess you have some kind of magical roller controller then.
  13. Huh? You can play joystick games with the roller but the switch has to be in joystick mode. There might be joystick games that work with the switch in roller mode but it's not the majority. I think you're mistaken about Defender and the roller. I've owned 3 different rollers over the years and 5 different CVs. On none of them did Defender work correctly with a roller controller. Of course it's possible they all had the same problem but I think that's pretty unlikely.

    7800.

Well owning and playing both I have to say I think the NES is FAR superior to the 7800. I like the 7800 but the NES games look better for the most part, definitely sound better, the controllers are better and the library of games is one of the best ever. The 7800 as it is is a nice system but I don't think it really competes on the same level as the NES.

    7800.

Did you forget this thread that you even posted in? NES vs. 7800
  16. It's not reformatted, Al is busy with other stuff. I'm sure it will return in it's former glory when he has the time. Here's a quote from him from another thread:
  17. If it works as a roller in roller games and works as a joystick in joystick games, there's nothing wrong. That's the way it is. When you switch it to Roller Mode for joystick games the CV isn't getting the expected joystick info so it freaks out. Joystick mode is just an on/off type of input. For example, push a joystick right and that switch is turned on. Move the stick back to center and it's off. Roller mode doesn't work that way. It's measuring the speed the ball is rolling as well as direction, it's not just an on/off thing. Defender on the CV doesn't not work properly with the RC hooked up in either mode. I don't know why but I do remember that being being the case even back in '84 with my original setup and that hardware was pretty much new.
  18. I'll reserve judgement until I actually play it, but from the screens it looks like it might suffer from TMSOSAO* for me. *Too Much Shit On Screen At Once
  19. I haven't chopped up my 5200 itself but I did mod a broken trakball with a 5200 joystick. I named it Frankenstick
  20. Welcome to AA There's tons of coin-ops that never got ported to the VCS. I'm kind of surprised nobody did a port of Food Fight, Zoo Keeper or Qix.
  21. Actually, wasn't it originally intended to be an Intellivision-beater? that's the way, I heard it
  22. Well admittedly, I don't care about the cosmetics. I'll try to find something that looks nice but I'm much more interested in function over form.
  23. It's a combination of reasons but they all lead back to playing. 90% of the stuff I buy is to play it. 5% is interesting stuff that while I probably won't play it regularly, I think it's cool to keep around in case I feel like playing it. The last 5% is stuff I know has value that I can resell to buy more games I will actually play.
  24. I think you need to take into consideration who's going to gamefaqs though and voting in this sort of poll. I don't imagine the majority of parents who will buy a Wii for their kid for the holidays is going and voting there. While I have no doubt the X360 and the PS3 will close the gap to some degree on the Wii sales eventually, I'm not sure I believe it will be as drastic as that poll seems to indicate.
