I think he's like 12 years old. He saw pitfall, and commented that it kinda seemed like Super Mario Brothers. Super Mario Brothers was apparently the beginning of this kid's video game universe. I had a whole box full of games, which in a way made him quite interested. I started with Pitfall! and he seemed amused by it. Then he was the one who pulled out Pac-Man... He was already quite aware of the ancient quality of this machine, but I had boosted up the machine's speed capabilities, and fiercely tight assembly programming. He kept right on playing the warehouse of games I had. He played a full game of Enduro Ms. Pac-Man Phoenix Jr. Pac-Man (he was impressed with this one). Keystone Kapers Some others I competed with him: Ice Hockey Boxing (stress X 14) River Raid Space Invaders He tried Centipede with the Atari 2600 Trakball. The left button didn't work, but the right did I had him play Warring Worms, and Dr. Roboto. And we played a good amount of Artillery Duel. And after I was about to wrap up the blast from the past...I was really impressed when he wanted to keep playing. Yes, Atari had him! He had an easier time with Genesis controllers...but I started him out with the classic stick. Pitfall! required ALOT of precision...even tho this game comes second nature to those who grew up with it. We were born to play this game. Those raised on Super Mario Brothers do not realize the precision that these games needed. Next time I'm bringing the monster 5200, and show him what Atari is really about! I'm just getting warmed up. First thing when I showed up, he needed help on the SNES Emulator getting past a Ghost House. I'm like...HAHA, Ghost Houses are cake.

Play Pac-Man, and start out going to the right... Go into the tunnel on the right side...watch the dots that are close to where Pac-Man begins. One of the dots will disappear when you go through the tunnel. I think it is the second dot that you could eat when going to the left! Neat stuff!

I was going to say that I thought I remember that, but I just don't know. If it was, then it was only for like 1 level, and then back to infinite blue, because I DO remember playing a crazy amount of levels where they'd be blue. And I remember eating them (by accident or on purpose), just to throw in a little interest. At 7 years old this is all I knew for gaming, my trusty 5200. I used to play Atari 5200 football a hell of alot too. And I used to eat all the dots, and have the red ghost chase me down the long bottom corridor just for fun, to have him catch me. And I was a Pac-Man nut so I used to make these cut-outs of Pac-Man and the ghosts, and pretend like I was playing the game on a table or something. Those were the days, that and playin' Transformers every day! Those days are gone, but in their place are days where I defend 5200 sticks from mean ol Decepticons. Don't forget that tunnel glitch, where you can eat a dot without eating it! Clearing a stage like that is neat.

To put this question to rest forever... When I was younger and owned the Atari 5200...I frequently made it to the 7th key in Pac-Man... If the joysticks really were that shitty, I would NOT have made it that far so often, correct? I wore one down till the rubber part was completely gone. I had a flawless pattern for all the key stages... and after the 7th key, the ghosts would be flashing blue the entire time... If you accidently ate one, however, you better run like hell...cause as I remember they come at you ULTRA fast (especially the red one). Case closed!

Since it is obvious that 5200 wasn't going for a perfect port of Space Invaders, maybe it can be overlooked. I suppose they should've renamed the game or something. Like Space Capture or something (like when that flying saucer comes down at that one stage). That is a pretty cool part that I doubt is in the arcade. I don't think they were even trying for a perfect emulation...since some of those creatures are pretty goofy looking. When I was younger I used to get a kick out of shooting all the enemies and leaving one specific creature, just to see how goofy it would look going across the screen quickly. The "Birthday Cake" creature on the top of one of the stages is just hilarious!

Here is the obvious comparison between 2600 and 5200 Space Invaders. After looking at the pictures, how could the 5200 version be worse? It is simply NOT TRUE. No system can compare to playing Centipede with a Trak ball for the 5200! And Pac-Man obliterates the version for 2600. The remake 2600 Pac-Man is pretty good.

Oh blessed ET thread, I missed you so! We could have an "official" Atariage landfill.... we could all donate an ET for "storage" in this new landfill. Maybe using actual cement (or imitation gruel). And after the ceremony, we could all throw a huge LAN party.

I guess today was the right day to go to the Goodwill!! I've done the same routine every day for the past month at least. I go workout at the Y, and then I drop by and go "fishing" at the Goodwill. I walk in and out of the store within 1 minute usually. I was doing my daily sweep of the place, and as usual I didn't think anything was there. I saw a flight stick thing for the Playstation, and played with it for a bit. Then I stopped for a moment and looked down, and there it was! My patience and routine paid off huge! An Atari 2600 "Woody" sat there. It was in a nice zipped up plastic bag even! I couldn't believe it! I could see some games in it too, which I later found were these games: 1. Pac-Man 2. Combat (text label) 3. 112 Tele-Games Space Invaders 4. Home Run (text label) 5. Hunt & Score (text label) This was OLD SKOOL! I didn't even have Hunt & Score. I was in the checkout line for 9 hours since the guy there is always slow like a turtle. The person behind me goes: "Wow, I remember that thing!" And I didn't say it, but I was like "YEAH, IT IS MINE!" I realized how rare it is to find this thing at the Goodwill. The only other time anything 2600 was in the place was at least since Christmas. And those were just cartridges. Within the last two months, I've got a bunch of cool stuff from this place. All "fairly" reasonably priced. Here is what I've gotten: VHS TAPES: Star Trek The Final Frontier Dumb and Dumber Ace Ventura Speed The Karate Kid (Beta) (Stupid me) The Karate Kid The Karate Kid 2 The Money Pit Powder Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Back to the Future GENESIS: Risk Mortal Kombat 3 PC: Extreme Tennis (doesn't work on my XP, sucks!) Two genesis 6 button controllers (Super Pads) The day after I got Mortal Kombat 3, nice timing! Commodore Plus 4 (In the box even) Odyssey 2 and like 3 games! Quite a haul if you look at it overall. I got this thing home and started talking to it like "What did they do to you?" and "You're home now." hehe I fired it up with one of the games it came with, and it worked. I went to town on the top of it with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs, where that "grill" area is. There was easily 20 years of dirt build-up on it (obviously). I cleaned it up nice. Then I opened two of my shrink wrapped unopened games (Ms. Pac-Man and Dig Dug) and I commemorated the occasion! The funny thing is that the color "wigs out" after a while, and then it either totally glitches out, or the color simply turns to gray tone. Wtf is up with that? Not that I really care, but I would like to know if I could fix it?! My vader has no problems, and this thing is for nostalgic value for sure. Plus the game mode switch is broken. The other switches all work. How do I open the thing up to fix the broken switch? Also, I got to see another shitty thing about Pac-Man. I noticed that he stays in exactly one place at the beginning of the game, and yet he somehow gets 1 POINT for just standing there. When you eat that wafer that he's sitting on, you got ANOTHER point! That's funny and stupid! Especially when playing the glorious Ms. Pac-Man. I realize there is that remake Pac-Man, and I'll probably grab that sometime. It is really a hacked up version of Ms. Pac-Man tho (except with a different cool box.) So that's the long story

Interesting "phenenomon" comes up when buying on Ebay... Sometimes you see 100 Atari 2600 games selling for $100. But you can find some of those same games sometimes selling for like $6 each. That would be $600 for 100. So it is hard to weigh whether to buy a big load of games, because it would save money in the long run. And at the far extreme...every so often you see someone selling a gigantic warehouse full of classic gaming stuff. It costs like $7,000. If you were to buy it all individually, it would cost like $70,000

I agree with you 1000%! It is nice to see such a great fan of this wonderful machine. Fuck 7800! (even tho I'll be collecting that in good time being that it is Atari after all). It was my first and only Atari back in 1983. I feel I am perfectly qualified to give an opinion about stuff related to the 5200 considering all the trillions of hours I spent on the thing. In my recent collecting, I've paid the most respect to collecting for the Atari 5200. I got two "gold plated contacts" Atari 5200 stock controllers. They work awesomely. I got two Wico controllers. And I got the very awesome 5200 Trackball (which came brand new in the box). And I got all the games I used to have. Ok, my opinion of the controllers: When I used to have this machine for real, what did bug me was the fact that the rubber shoes would completely disintegrate over time of frequent playing. There was absolutely no rubber left on one of my controllers. But the controller was like an old shoe for me, and I could still play a mean game of Pac-Man. I used to routinely make it to the 6th key (when the ghosts turn blinking blue for the whole level). The 7th key which they would be normal, and then evey key after that they would be blinking blue! The gold contacts fix the other complaint about the buttons wearing out. I think that is due to the contacts "oxidizing" or something over time. Oh yeah, Space Invaders kicks ass so much I can't hardly even describe it. Never again will any system look and feel like this game did. In my "old age" those mushy fire buttons are gonna cause arthritis or something bad hehehe

On 5/3/2003 at exactly 2:35 am I collected my last rom for Mame. I now have a perfect 3826 roms, and 181 samples My main Mame folder is: 10.8 GB My roms folder is: 8.04 GB The first rom I collected was on 3/21/2003 at exactly 12:29 am. It is truly awesome to scroll down the All Games list and be able to pick any game on it to play. I collected every single rom from Mame.dk except only 1. Aliens vs. Predator is not available from Mame.dk, so I got that from Emuchina. Actually, I've had the Mame program and several roms for at least a couple years I think...but I had always wanted to see if I could get em all. Those chd files were fairly tough to get, and figure out. I realize that I could've easily purchased 2 DVDs from some people from the net, and saved myself the work (and pay like $30), but that would be no fun. Every day for like an hour or so, I'd get roms, and so it didn't take that long really. So I'm pretty happy that I found them all, except I wonder what I'll do on my computer now Oh yeah, I could play some Mame! The coolest program on the planet. Gonna fire up a game of Pac-man, and then go to bed

I agree with Jnes being awesome. But it doesn't do very well with a game like Wizards and Warriors. FCEU does that one pretty good. Nesticle does movies which is great. But the one emulator that seems to work on all the computer systems I've tried is Nesten. Rocknes has never worked for me, prob cuz I'm just a tard

They don't have Aliens vs. Predator. It is the ONLY rom I've encountered that is not there currently. Every rom from 1997 back besides that one is there. I haven't checked 1998 yet.

You are going to think this is insane, but I think THE greatest little intro tune to any video game ever has got to be the opening 10 second tune to BERSERK for Vectrex. That thing just grows in your brain like some sort of .....um .....um But really, listen to the very last final little note at the end of that intro...it has that really awesome distorted frequency. Does anyone agree with me? I don't have a real Vectrex, does Berserk sound like that on the real thing too? I have it emulated on Mess.

Actually I was planning to attend The Midwest Classic again as I was there last year. Financial planning is not my strength, and since I want to try to stay in hotels, instead of making a 10 hour drive round trip in the same day...I guess I might be looking at going in the hole money wise. But it is the only video game convention anywhere near Minnesota...so if I don't go, I'd have the rest of the year to feel guilty

Good things come 2 those who wait...my Genesis
KAZ replied to The MilkMan's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That metallic sound from Genesis is really cool to me! I actually regularly listen to the final warriors song from Mortal Kombat 1 on Winamp. It sounds good that way. -
An unbelievable find at the Goodwill today. I almost missed the thing. It is a sweet looking system! More amazing is that all the cords were with it. And even more amazing than that is the thing actually worked too! It came with two games. This all costed like $9.00 A good deal considering there is a video game store near the Mall of America that sells Odyssey 2's at probably like $50! I thought I'd post a message here, since you guys are the only ones that might remotely be interested in a find like this! I for one was very happy. I go "fishing" at the Goodwill every day. Finds like these keep me coming back. Last week I got a Commodore Plus 4 for $9.00 My classic collection is REALLY starting to take shape now. This is serious! All I need now is a big enough room to display the stuff, and maybe a cool glass display! Some posters would be nice too. Does anyone have any Odyssey 2 cartridges they'd sell for cheap, or "donate" to me? Especially the game Turtles (one of the classics of all time).

Ok, so I've had my new computer for like 2 weeks. It is a 2.5ghz, 512 MB ram, and 80 GB hard drive. I put a high end video card in with 128 of video ram. It is Radeon 9000 or something. So I can play Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Mercs all at top speed. I can even play N64 roms and stuff. I tried to play Cruisin' USA, put the framerate was low. My question is does anyone have a computer that can play this game at full speed? Or is it perhaps the ROM itself that isn't quite "done" yet. If it is the fact that my comp isn't fast enough, that would simply amaze me, since I've got virtually the fastest you can get. Hard Drivin' is another one that doesn't play at full speed, but it looks like the game is having other problems besides. Can anyone advise me? The graphics on Cruisin' look absoultely great however! I also love this new computer, it does everything so much faster than my old 400 mhz!

I'll put my comment in... Back in college, my friend told me about some guy that had all the Nintendo games right on his computer. I was absolutely amazed, and thought this guy must be some sort of computer hacker/genius...and with a great computer or something. This is back in like 1993, or first year of college. I was heavy into "mudding" back then. Especially on this place called "The Great Hunt". This is how I spent most of my time with computers, until around 1998 or a year out of college. I found out about Mame, and I just thought it was unbelievable to be able to play games for free. When I finally got my own computer in like 2000, I went on a spree finding every emulator I could. I found neat stuff like Super Nintendo spcs, which are the actual music! Then I burned some neat disks and decorated them. One, for example, is my Nintendo disk. I decorated it with images from Nes. Last but not least, I recently got a super quick computer... 2.5 ghz, 512 MB ram, 80GB hard disk. Being this computer is about a trillion times faster than my old 400 mhz gateway, I can now play Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and even Nemu's N64 Super Mario 64!! I recently ordered a playstation adapter that allows to hook them into my pc's usb ports! Now I've picked up MESS again, and I've got all of my console emus in one place. It floored me when I discovered that NES on MESS doesn't need a bios rom??! The drawback is that I no longer can use z26, it plays crazy choppy and slow on this XP. Stella just doesn't do it for me, it seems to "hiccup" every now and then, and the sound crackles sometimes. Sorta irritating. MESS better hurry up and fix their 2600!
-
1. 5200 2. 5200 3. 5200 4. 2600 If I see the 5200 towards the bottom of another list I think I'm going to puke. And then I'll show you "non-centering"!

It is 2 years bad luck to reply to your own post... I forgot to mention the box that it came in was in an unbelievably perfect condition. Not a rip or a scratch or a dent on the box. I figured this thing was defective (too good to be true sort of thing), but it was the real deal.

So I stopped by Goodwill after a long absence (at least two weeks or more). It was my lucky day, I had no idea! I saw the sign that said 50% green and blue tag thingies, and since I know the size of this store, I figured everything would be cleared out. I saw nothing of interest during my first sweep. Just the same old genesis junk, always costing $14.99. On my way out I relooked at two Playstation gameshark boxes. One didn't have a price on it, and the other seemed to be empty, but costed $1. The first time I saw it on the way in I guess I just assumed that the other one would be really costly, even if it didn't have a price on it. Well I took the chance that it would cost less, and asked how much it costed. Right after the guy said: "99 cents", I was just floored. I had that buck out right away. The tax came out to $1.05, and I was pissed I didn't have a nickel, because he had to make change--and his lady coworker had just arrived. I thought she was going to ruin my score, and price the thing higher (like at $30 or something). She didn't, and I just about ran out of the store. So here's what I got for 99 cents: A Gameshark Pro version 3.2 (I already had a gameshark, but it is version 2.1) It came with a video tape on how to construct codes. I tested it out, and it has awesome features! It has this virtual memory card thing (not sure how well it works). I tested it out on Namco Museum Pac-Man, and everything was swell. I think the place just missed me. So this is the best deal I've seen, maybe ever for anything.

That's why I'm considering getting a Dreamcast. Emulation is the number 1 reason. The entire Nintendo library, played on a TV (without the hassle of TV outing my video card). And the other reason is that tennis game. I agree that the dreamcast won't burn itself out unless you try to emulate Sega CD titles or something.

I'm looking for nes or snes fonts...like the lettering used on the front of the box. Super Nintendo Nintendo I've found sites that have some game fonts...like final fantasy or Zelda...but not of the system I even found Sega's, Playstation's, and Atari's font. No luck with snes or nes Can anyone help me?

In the entire strategy guide for Living Large, I don't think I read about selling monster created paintings. I'm surprised they didn't mention such an awesome idea. I make my money off of gnomes. You get $100 a piece if you have maximum mechanical skill. The clicking/deleting actually starts to feel like "work" after a while, as opposed to just watching your sim go off to work, and doing nothing except wait till he returns with significantly less than $2000 (that's about the maximum amount of gnomes you can make in a day before getting tired, etc.) The hacker career track is nice, but long hours...that 30k reward near the end is great. I don't like how the game always FORCES you to a different career track after you reach the top for a couple days.
