  1. What cartridge made by Atari has the model number: CX2614 Thanks for responding!
  2. I keep reading on the internet where it tells you "how to get unlimited money". I read that you have to complete class 5, and then after the credits roll, you have to save you game to a new slot in your memory card, and then choose regular grand prix. At least one person has expanded on this, and he says you have to start a race, and then exit out of it and everything. Never before have I seen a stupid rumor like this go on for so long! It is like someone made it up, and no one bothered to actually confirm if it was necessary to do all this. Here's the REAL ANSWER: You don't need to do ANYTHING after you beat class 5 (I should know, I've cleared it numerous times). You don't need to mess with saving a game or anything. If you beat class 5 on regular grand prix, and you choose grand prix again after returning, you automatically get "unlimited cash" (which is 99999999 etc.) It is like people are "superstitious" about the game, thinking that they had to do a certain thing to get this cash, when in fact they didn't have to do anything except clear class 5. So now that is put to rest. Do a search on the internet, and look at ALL THE SITES that have this silly "cheat" that is not necessary! Incredible!
  3. Were you at The Midwest Classic? I was there on Saturday, I wondered if I saw you by chance.... Anyhow. I'm interested in some of those for sure. I get paid in a couple days, and will be wanting grab at least three out of that list from you. Do you accept Paypal? I still have a lost money order for some other games, and it is frustrating to pay like that. [ 06-10-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]
  4. But I always thought that MAME wasn't a simulation but for all technical purposes it WAS the exact rom from the actual arcade machine. Like someone dumped the rom from a REAL machine onto a computer somehow, and designed different hardware to play it. Some arcade games obviously suffer because part of THE FUN of playing an arcade is sometimes the controls and looks of the machine you are at. Namco Museum for Playstation is NOT the real rom MAME is the REAL rom, so it will play exactly like the arcade. Awesome point about Space Invaders, it looks different because of the built in background. Maybe I'm confused too, I'm not sure. Namco Museum is a SIMULATION of pacman MAME is a REPLICATION (exact copy) of pacman The only thing "closer" is like what I saw at The Midwest Classic, where they brought in ACTUAL arcade boards, and hooked it to something to play the arcade games from So that is even closer to the arcade than MAME would be, because it uses the real hardware. 5. If it is the back of the cartridge and NOT the front, go to town on it with Goo-Gone like room34 says. That gets off almost anything, no lie! It works like a dream on pricetags, this is the area it shines at. Don't you hate it when you try to take one off the "regular" way. If you do it really slowly, you might not leave any sticky gunk behind, do it wrong tho, and you may NEVER get the rest of it off. With Goo Gone, it seems to dry the sticky part out completely, and it almost cakes off right before your eyes. Yes, this is the Truman Show.

    allright!

My collection has risen to 67 unique cartridge titles (I don't count label variations, but I have a few of those) I have several "duplicates" new in their box...these are the ones I've got shrinkwrapped: Ms. Pacman Dig Dug Real Sports Baseball Real Sports Football Solaris Jungle Hunt Venture Moon Patrol I'm VERY happy with my collection right now...I'm still doing alot of organizing, and am going to be putting together a spreadsheet to help me narrow down the titles I'd like. My goal is to collect all the Activision and M Network games for one. So my spreadsheet would have all the games from Activision, and the ones that I don't have would be colored in gray. And by the way, this isn't a worthless post. Thanks for telling us how your collecting is coming. People are at all sorts of different stages of collecting for classic systems (especially the Atari 2600) I look at my 70 games and I think that I have ALOT, but most people who collect have at least 150-200, and I'm just amazed!! That is alot of frickin' Atari 2600 games! It'll take me a bit, but I intend to collect a bunch from a want list that I've created using this message board sometimes as a guide! 7. I got into collecting because I wanted to have an Atari 5200 like I used to have when I was young. Getting the Atari 2600 was just a natural progression after this. And I first picked up the titles that I actually played for real when I was a kid (at other people's houses, etc.) Following this line, I will soon move on to Atari 7800 and the Jaguar, but that's a ways off. It might be neat to have all the activision titles, or maybe all the M Network titles (those that aren't ultra rare of course). For display purposes (not just to play them) it would be neat.
  8. That's cool...I wasn't trying to be agressive towards you in particular osbo. Whenever I see posts like: Look at this amazing find, I simply have come to expect certain responses. Ocassionally, I'll see a newbie type collector (I could almost be considered one myself tho)...who seems to be paying way to high for an item, like on Ebay or whatever. If I see it, I would be the type that would actually try to save them from making a mistake. But after the fact, I would never think of telling them they paid too high-that is going too far.
  9. Kung Fu Master on MAME seems to have a difference in the sound too...like the arcade version somehow sounds different. Does anyone agree with this? But you simply can't go wrong with games like Ms. Pacman, Galaga, Dig Dug, Kangaroo. on MAME tho all play as perfectly as I could ever want short of actually having those huge machines. I'd say that MAME is absolutely amazing for what it can do, I love it! Technically, I think that Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., by virtue of using sound samples...aren't exactly like the arcade, but the MAME is the BEST "home" version of those two, hands down! Pacman on Namco Museum on the Sony Playstation SUCKS compared to what it is like on MAME. So does all the other namco classics (they are ok in themselves, but nothing like the arcade). MAME does them flawlessly (in my eyes). [ 06-10-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]
  10. 2.50 each?? I used to pick bags with 4-5 games VSC or Jaguar for 95 cents OH YEAH? I found an abandoned truck full of Atari 2600 games. About 500, for FREE!! I've heard it thousands of times on this message board and it is kinda irritating to read. Whenever someone says they had a good find in the wild, another person says something stupid like "I found 1000 carts for $.70". People who start the topics like this want others to be HAPPY for them, but some just can't resist trying their best to make the other feel like they paid too much for Atari stuff. Or it turns into a competition about who has gotton the very best deal ever. Why do you guys do that? ****ing insensitive I'd say. [ 06-10-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]
  11. When the guy with #2600 for a member number (which won't happen in this new system of course), he could be seen as the LONG AWAITED CHOSEN ONE!!! All his posts no matter how idiotic would be marveled at. If he says ET was the greatest cartridge ever made, then it will hence forth be considered TRUE! All will hail him until the greater GOD appears with the #6507 member number!
  12. How many Space Invaders label variations are there? I looked here: http://www.atariage.com/software_list.html...l?SystemID=2600 It appears that Atariage has 6 label variations. I have the text one for sure, it looks exactly like the first one listed with a rarity of 1 But my silver picture label is not like the silver one listed on Atariage...let me explain: Atariage's Space Invaders Atari Silver: On the label says this.... 1988 ATARI CORPORATION, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.. Trademark of Taito America Corp. Printed in Hong Kong MINE says this: 1980 ATARI INC. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED *Trademark of Taito America Corp. So I think I have a label variation that isn't listed on Atariage.... Mine doesn't say anything about being printed in Hong Kong, but I would consider what I have to be a "silver label". I know this is nitpicky, but I just wanted to know what I had. The only label variations that interest me is having 1. a picture label 2. the text label I think it is neat to own both kinds. The text kinds are usually the older ones. I could take a picture of my cartridge, and maybe you guys could add it to your site? As being a different Silver label cartridge...?
  13. I like Thomas' idea about having to EARN the PRIVILEGE to even respond to a poll, or create one. Like every 100 posts you get to MAKE A POLL, and RESPOND TO A POLL. Anything that builds on a member's post count is pretty cool to me. Like incentives for reaching new levels of post counts. Maybe every 100 posts, you couldn't make a poll, just respond to one. That would stop newbies from logging in and making a mockery of the polls that have been created. Like voting 900 times for something. Those who reach 100 posts at least could be seen to value the message board more.
  14. Well I agree with what has been said about polls going too far...so I propose this: Have a MAIN poll for the major systems... Asking all the members these questions: What is the top 20 Atari 2600 games? What is the top 20 Atari 5200 games? etc. etc., you get the idea. These would be created by the ADMIN, and they would have full control over constructing the options available. Like a long list of Atari 2600 games, that someone could scroll through to pick them. That WOULD be useful to me, cuz I want to know what others on this message board think are the best Atari 2600 games, so that it can guide me in deciding what games I'll want to get for my collection. Actually you don't need any more polls than the type that I've said... So I vote that the ADMINS be the only ones to construct actual polls, whereas there can be a forum for people who would like to SUGGEST to them possible polls. That way we'd only have really high quality polls, and get more responses to those polls because of it. That is all

    Look: Super Pac-Man

Hey thanks, I'll be interested in hearing how it goes for you!
  16. Let me get this straight.... You are saying that because certain models "seemed" to have better compatibility with Atari 2600 they would be considered to have MORE VALUE... And you are attempting to disprove this, and you think that people would then think their Atari 7800 has a lesser value? Well I don't know about anyone else, but from a collector standpoint, it makes no difference. I wouldn't get a 7800 based on its % capability with Atari 2600 games anyways. As a collector I might want the first version of the 7800, and perhaps the very last version. Or maybe all the versions (if I felt like being obsessive about it, which I'm not). So then I could "show" someone that a game works on one but not the other, and explain why. For those that may collect only one, maybe it makes a TINY TINY difference. And then there are still others who, in an attempt to "disprove" your theory, would actually purchase a 7800 that has less than 100% compatibility, and try to mess with them to try to get games that are said not to work on them, working. From a gamers perspective, maybe all this does make SOME difference, but not much right? So you can play 400 2600 games instead of 415, so what? I'd say to that gamer, get off your bum and hook up the Atari 2600 if you want to play that game so bad. I want to collect an Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer, but there are problems with cartridges fitting too tightly. But I don't care, because I want to have "1 out of 100,000" of that version of Atari 2600, for collector purposes (I have a black version, but want a wooden one). I like playing Atari games, I wouldn't collect if I didn't like playing them (occasionally, when I'm in the mood), but I more like collecting (like a classic gaming anthropologist, seeing what systems were like in the past). Sorry this is becoming long, but I saw an Odyssey 2 live in person at The Midwest Classic on Saturday, and it was BEAUTIFUL. It was so cool looking, that I almost think I want to collect it someday. It had some sort of voice attachment, which made it even cooler!! I'm sure the games are really primitive, but if I were looking for graphics and stuff, I'd get a modern system. 17. I'm surprised I'm saying this, but if you don't like Missile Command or Centipede, then don't get the trak ball. I bought a brand new one in its box from Ebay. It is a treat to play Centipede and Missile Command using this controller! The Atari had another VERY neat add-on....it came with Space Dungeon (I could care less about this game), and Robotron. Using it with Robotron has the same effect the trak ball has for Centipede and Missile Command. It allows you to come as close as possible to the way the games were played in the arcade-with two controllers hooking into it. Myself, I enjoy Centipede MORE for the Atari 5200, than even the arcade. Missile Command actually is kinda nice having only one missile silo, rather than three (my opinion). Too much to keep track of with three....tho long range shots are fun in the arcade. Using a far silo firing all the way across the screen to barely save a city. But some people don't like these games for whatever reason. Trak ball plays decently with Super Breakout. It is a toss up, as I like the joystick in this case.
  18. While at The Midwest Classic in Milwaukee, WI I picked up Berserk for the Atari 5200. I had heard that it had voice in it, and I knew I wanted to eventually get it in my collection! It did not disappoint me when I tried it out with my Wico controller. The voice stuff is all there, and actually sounds almost exactly like the arcade. The Atari 5200 itself seems to be stretched to the limits of its capabilities, as the game stops completely when Evil Otto arrives, to play the voice. And in between levels it stops to do this also. It doesn't detract from the game as far as I saw.
  19. Some of these commercials were/are mind numbingly cheesy, I almost could not stand watching them, but they were funny too. I watched the "Smurf" one, where he yells out "SMURF THEM" at the very end, and I somehow think I actually remember that (deep deep in my brain somewhere, I remember that, I don't know why). And then they had those two commercials where they said that 64 bit systems, like the Atari Jaguar are "better" than 32 bit systems....which I have later learned is not necessarily true. Case in point, from reading The Official Program from Midwest Classic I learned that Atari 2600 is an 8 bit system, and so is Nintendo (NES). So saying that a 64 bit system is "better" than a 32 bit could be misleading. Would anyone agree with this?
  20. There was a video clip on that site.... http://www.emuitalia.com/stgraveyard/movie...nsoleMovies.htm Watch the one called: Star Raiders and Berserk-2 new games only for Atari systems! It sounds like Patrick Stewart's voice in the first part of that video. Am I right? Is it really him? (he plays Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek).
  21. That ftp site doesn't work for me, but I found the first one that you guys mentioned. Very cool commercials!
  22. Oh cool, thanks for providing me with that valuable information.
  23. Next on Jerry Springer: Atari is destroying our marriage Beep Beep, blipity beep, you didn't get rid of the beepity beeeeeeping Atari! I'm divorcing you beepity beeeeeeeep!!! And Jerry's last thoughts: "Classic Gaming is a pleasant pastime but it goes too far when the dishes need to be done, or the trash taken out. So if next time you hear 'I've almost flipped the score, one second,' you may have taken the interest too far."
  24. This thread makes no sense... Maybe it is depressing to give up all of your classic gaming stuff, but why does that destroy your interest also? Well here's my theory about the whole thing: General Atarian shares their computer with someone who can detect whether they have gotton rid of all evidence of classic gaming interest or items (maybe a wife or something). If he continues to visit this forum, he will likely be tempted to purchase stuff, and his money problem being as it is, his "wife" would not like that to happen. So he is forced to go "underground" with his classic gaming interest. He likely won't sell off ALL of his stuff, but he will conceal it very well from all that know him. Late at night, he will sneak to his underground lair and play Solaris and River Raid. And the next day, his wife will wonder why he's so happy after having made him give up his only true love. She will then hire a private investigator who will catch him in the act. They will be featured on Jerry Springer, and the rest will be history. The End [ 06-09-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]

    Solaris PAL?

I just bought two shrinkwrapped Solaris from The Midwest Classic. I had to have one to play off of, so I opened one of them up. I had the exact rolling problem that you guys have described..There was no way I was going to try the other shrinkwrapped one, it would likely do the same exact thing. First thought that came to my mind was PAL!! But I looked all over the instructions and box for any reference to PAL, but could find nothing. Now you guys suggest that it is my TV...and that I'd need an older style TV with adjusters. Well that's just ****ing great...hehe At least it isn't my game that is the problem!! It was new in the box after all! What other games do this on the Atari 2600? [ 06-10-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]
