Need some help from all of you emulator knowledgables.
KAZ replied to King Atari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Double Dragon won't run on "slower" computers, like mine (450 mhz), or it runs but very choppy. Games like Mercs are also choppy, and games like Mortal Kombat (well let's not even go there!) My parent's computer runs every single game perfect (they have a 1.1 ghz). It is just a dream to play street fighter and mortal kombat on their computer. If there was a certain rom that you did not have, and can't find it anywhere, I'll bet I have it. They ARE getting harder and harder to find. Mame dk shut down their roms, and so do alot of other places. I have some links that do still work (tho I hesitate to give them out, as it may cause them to be shut down also). -
Looking to buy a bunch of Atari 2600 games for cheap.
KAZ replied to KAZ's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Thanks for responding, I got your email -
I'm looking for anyone who's willing to sell some of their duplicates or whatever for dirt cheap. I'm looking for a deal like: 5-7 loose cartridges for like $10. If manuals or boxes are available for the same price, that would be sweet too. They can be ultra common, I'm just looking to add to my collection without busting the bank. Please make me some offers, thanks! [ 05-19-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]

Is there any chance you'd part with Air Sea Battle and Circus Atari? I just got my Atari 2600 like two weeks ago, and my collection is up to 59 games. I'm looking for cartridges I don't have, and I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask if you'd mind sending me these. Please email me.

I was wrong. Well I purchased a Wico Command Control with Y adapter from someone on this message board for use with my Atari 5200. I tried it with Pitfall! for the Atari 5200 and it worked just fine, tho for some reason I couldn't go up or down the ladders too easily. But that's not why I wrote.... I looked at the plug to the Y adapter, and it looked awfully familiar. Yeah, like the plugs for Atari 2600 controllers. So in my infinite wisdom I thought, hmm, I'll try plugging a genesis controller into it (it works on my Atari 2600), but that didn't work. But then I'm like, hey wait a second! The Wico Controller had a plug that looked just like an Atari 2600 controller. And it fits like a glove into the Atari 2600, so I stuck it in, and fired up Pitfall! for the Atari 2600. I pressed left and the whole screen went wacky, and the game was like: "**** This!" Ok, so I don't want to fry my Atari 2600, but seriously this is just ****ed. Why would a third party make the cords to so closely resemble Atari 2600 controllers, and yet it looks like they actually could DAMAGE an Atari 2600???? The Atari seemed to be having an allergic reaction to the Wico. I don't get it. Sometimes Atari is just ****ed up, but I like it still. Anyone know why Wico Controllers do this to Atari 2600's? Has anyone's system been wrecked by this? Mine looks fine, but it did wacky things to the Pitfall! game(while it was still in the system). Probably the same effect as when you intentionally FRY the system turning it on and off fast (which I'll never ever do) When I reset it, everything goes back to the way it was. ****ed used 8 times, but I like the word.

My friend told me he and one of his other friends from grade school used to play the Odyssey 2 back in 4th grade. He used to play "Turtles" like every day. So recently I downloaded an emulator for him the other day, and we played the game on my TV, after so many years (video cord going to my TV, from my video adapter).

That walking through ghosts thing, I didn't realize that was a bug! I thought the game intended for that to happen, like they ARE ghost monsters after all. Like you notice how each time you die, you get "embedded" in the ghost to a different degree each time. Sometimes it kills you right at the surface (you hardly touch it), but other times, you are all the way inside the ghost that killed you! I saw a friend of mine eat a ghost right inside another regular ghost-Ms. Pacman. (they were both in the same place at the same time) He was not harmed, and just turned right around. It was the coolest pacman move I'd ever seen! This same friend of mine once went completely through TWO ghosts (the two ghosts were again in just about the same exact place). This guy has pac-luck.

Wow, that IS unreal. You have incredible luck! Being this is going to charity, I'm not all that concerned, even tho I don't usually just dole my money out to charitable organizations. I don't have money to burn either, but it was a treat after so many months to finally be able to get SOMETHING in the wild. It was a rare treat from what I've seen in this Goodwill store. Kinda made me happy to know that someone in my area actually still had 2600 cartridges, and they weren't just thrown in the trash. Being on this message board is helping me more and more become an experienced collector. I would consider myself to be an "official" collector of Atari stuff now. Atari 2600 IS most definitely a system that is rewarding to collect for. I played Keystone Kapers for real for the first time last night, and god it was fun. I never could figure out how to go DOWN escalators (those moving steps), only to go up them??! MASH had that surgery part that was kind of neat. Kinda like the game "Operation".

I tested out every one of my new cartridges. Only 1 does not work. It is one that is closed on the bottom. So I used a card that I got from great clips, tore off a piece, and managed to access the board to clean it. I'm like "I gotcha now!" (Before reading the instructions how to clean closed cartridges, this was the first time it actually worked). I cleaned it really good, stuck it back in and......NOTHING. Dammit. I thought I had it defeated. It is nice looking non-working Night Driver. The Astroblast I got from there seemed ****ed up too. The ship just sits at the far right of the screen, and doesn't move. I cleaned it really good too, but it didn't help it any. Maybe I should take the two back to Goodwill and see if I can exchange them for some shitty clothing!

Well perhaps there isn't exactly an odor persay. The atmosphere "feels" dusty, dirty, and grimy. Perhaps it is because every aisle that I walk through has junk lying on the ground. I see alot of people who are covered from head to toe in some sort of shawl. I guess that's what they like to wear, but I see more of them in this place than any other. What's up with that? The thought of actually buying clothing from the store, AND wearing it make puke start to well up in my throat. The yukiest looking orange and green clothing is there. Long live the 70's! So then if this place disgusts me so, why do I continue going back? It is the only place around that actually has cool unique rare items. If I look hard enough maybe I'd run into a speak and spell, or a lite brite, or some other neat 80's item that I used to like. If there was any odor, I might describe it as hot sweaty armpit smell. I'm thankful they keep the place air conditioned, or I wouldn't step foot in the place.

Oh, by the way, I left about 15 other cartridges there, since I already have them. Pole position, Missile Command, Asteroids, a couple of variations of Combat, and Berserk were there, plus some others than I have but don't remember what they were there. They were all either $1.99 or $5.99. Oh yeah, I hate that pricing convention too. ($2 and $6) Of the ones I got Bowling, Night Driver, Basketball, Tennis, Video Pinball, and Moon Patrol were definitely finds that I wanted! Never played Street Racer, I haven't even stuck it in my system yet. Astroblast has a neat shape to it. I guess I might be going to Goodwill more often. I might bring a gasmask tho (eek).

(Continued from above) My first visit, I picked up 10 games, the second visit about 45 minutes later, I picked up 5 other ones (after consulting my master list of Atari 2600 games I got). So I went up to check out my Atari 2600 games, I had them in a basket thing. I wanted to check them out myself, to be gentle to them, but the cashier insisted on being rough to them as much as possible. I'm surprised she didn't throw them on the ground, and jump on them, while she was checking them out. And when she was about to put them in a bag, I told her "I'll do it!" She still insisted on "helping me", and kept right on being rough to my merchandise. Being this stuff was from Good Will it was stuff that was already being abused every second it sat in this wretchedly awful atmosphere. I was saving these cartridges from who knows what abuse! I like analogies: It is like I would go to an animal farm of somekind, where they mistreat their animals, and I go to purchase a dog from there. While I'm making the final transaction, the owners ask me if they can kick the dog a few more times before I can take it home. And when I went back to get the remaining 5 cartridges, this same cashier DID IT AGAIN. God she was rough to the cartridges. I know they are infinitely durable, but come on! It was like she was on a mission to destroy them! Just pissed me off, cause I take good care of all my stuff. They weren't hurt by it, maybe my cartridges enjoy are used to being mishandled. They were all in really good shape tho! Some had gorgeous labels. There's only like one that I DIDN'T get, even tho I don't have it in my collection. It was a KABOOM! cartridge that had a gouge out of the label, and was listed as $5.99. I'm like **** that! So are you proud of my achievement? It is very gratifying to finally get something from the wild! So happy!

Well I'm writing this here because you are the only ones I feel would appreciate this find in the wild. My first ever find of any Atari in the wild. Here's the story: I decided to visit Goodwill again, but they never have Atari stuff, so I figured I'd just browse anyways (looking for untold treasure!) I went back by the electronics section, sifting through their old VCRS and TVS, and fans. My eye caught on a lone Atari 2600 game right away. It was Space Invaders! I thought wow, I actually found something of Atari here! I thought my day was over, and was simply going to go pay for it and leave. But then I got to thinking, gee if there's one there must be more?? So I went up towards the front where they often keep 8 track tapes, and CDS and stuff. From a long ways off I spotted it: JACKPOT! I didn't realize when I walked in, it was right there: 4 stacks of Atari 2600 cartridges! While walking over towards this golden opportunity, I was thinking to myself, wow, maybe they all cost like $.50? I was thinking I'd just waltz right over and just grab them all up like candy. Well I was wrong about that one, but I wasn't disappointed either. Ok, now to the figures. I think I spent slightly more than I should've, but since this is for charity, and since it is awesome I found this stuff in the wild....it is all worth it. I know most of these titles are common, but I want to know what you think of my score too. Most were $1.99, but like 5 were $5.99 (ouchie): 15 Cartridges total: $53.09 Titles, and prices: 1. Freeway: $1.99 2. M.A.S.H.: $1.99 3. Bowling: $1.99 4. Keystone Kapers: $1.99 5. Night Driver: $1.99 6. Astroblast: $1.99 7. Basketball: $5.99 8. Tennis: $1.99 9. Video Olympics: $1.99 10. Blackjack: $1.99 11. Space Invaders (Label Variation, I had one, but this one has no picture on it, just words): $5.99 12. Street Racer: $5.99 13. Video Pinball: $5.99 14. Moon Patrol: $5.99 15. Breakout: $1.99 Well my first question is, who the hell decided to price some at $5.99, and others at $1.99, were they going by some sort of rarity guide or something? Well it doesn't matter, tho the $5.99's really "pained" me to buy. Total taxes were: $3.24 (about what shipping and handling would be from Ebay). Oh Bad as in "good"? I see, I reread your post, and you were in fact complimenting his site. Sorry, guess I'm just not too sharp today
-
What's wrong with his site? I went there, and at least there wasn't 9 trillion popup windows. Not even one. He's just telling people his collection, and selling some stuff. Kinda nice graphics too.

What is the attract mode...you mean that very very first screen, where the ghost monsters circle that big square? The red ghost IS the first to make his appearance to get into line. I see what you are saying tho...in the real arcade, you'd have to start the game right after plugging it in, but BEFORE the red ghost comes out to get in this line around the square. By the way, I never considered the dip switch that controls the speed to be a "speed-up cheat" (but that's how they word it in the dip switch settings in mame). I've played pacman sped up in the arcade, and ms pacman sped up in the arcade. I like ms pacman better at the slower speed, and pacman is good at the faster speed. A cheat would be something that the arcade game wouldn't normally be able to do, like choosing a stage. [ 05-15-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]

For the price of an XBOX (like conservatively $250), just think how much Atari stuff you could get on Ebay! and one XBOX game probably goes for $60. Once i'm done collecting for the old systems tho, there's no reason I have for not moving up the ladder, and getting the new systems. Then I'll have the whole history covered, and not have to rely on emulation to play classic games. I would throw Enduro, River Raid, Pitfall! Phoenix, Ice Hockey, and Gravitar up against any XBOX title out today. Once you get sick of the ONE title on XBOX, what then? You could loop through these 6 titles, that would cost probably around $35 FOREVER!

Have you ever played a game for more than 5 straight hours?
KAZ replied to thesimpsons69's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Those days can still be ahead of you! It is called: RETIREMENT Drag out a nice old game of Pitfall! Gonna be here for a while. I knew there was a swell reason to develop my interest in gaming. Course, I'll probably get hit by a mack truck at age 32, but that's another story. You know there was once a time in my life when I didn't know that was meant to be an insult. -
You know something wierd is happening when an Atari 2600 costs the same amount as a Playstation!! I've seen Atari 2600's sell for more than $50 even. It is obvious why this is, but still kinda strange.

Quote: No, if you win a second time...the number changes (regardless if you collected more heart containers/pieces). Response: I beat the game a second time with my character Conan (who has full hearts and a zero), and waited till the whole ending sequence was done, and at the very end it says: TOTAL GAMES PLAYED 000 So it looks like the FIRST time you beat the game, it locks in what your number is forever. Therefore, it IS possible to collect all the hearts and stuff after beating the game once, and still have the number listed as 0. You don't have to collect all the hearts before beating the game the first time. I love arguments/debates over really really awesome games. Makes it worth being on this message board. Thanks! The only logical path to get to the secret cave in the pyramid is some passageway located at the Sanctuary...I know for a fact that there are several secret rooms to be accessed inside the sanctuary. You might try outside in the dark world near the sanctuary too. Open all the stones that you can find (especially the really heavy single stones). I honestly don't know any alternate Gannon cave at the pyramid, if you ever do figure out what you were looking for, please email (I'm a big fan of this game). -

Using the game genie, I've gone through the entire game of Legend of Zelda for the Super Nintendo in one life. Lest you say, BUT YOU CHEATED, true I did, but even with cheating, you've got to go through each and every step of the game. You simply have a HARDER time dying, tho you still can die. The reward is the giant 0 next to your character's name for all time. It just looks badass. I think the number signifies how many times you reloaded the game, not necessarily how much you didn't die. I don't remember about the hearts either, if you can go back after you beat the game, and collect more hearts, and still have the number at 0. In my 0 games, they'd take me 2 to 3 hours. I was unbelievably efficient, since I went straight to the master chest every dungeon, cuz I knew exactly where it was. -
By the way, I played Pitfall! with a genesis controller. I did have another question, about the treasure. So how does it work, once you get ALL the treasures, they stop coming up? Or is it simply impossible to get any more than 32 in the time given? For example, if the time were increased to 40:00, would there only be 32 treasures available? And one more thing that is confusing. What if I'm going left and go underground to the right one screen? Does that mean that I gained two screens when I begin going left again? [ 05-14-2002: Message edited by: KAZ ]

I JUST played Pitfall! 10 minutes ago.. My score, with no time left on the clock: 85,796 I went LEFT the entire game. I was VERY happy with the score. Is it just me, or does it sometimes seem like those ponds start retracting faster and faster. It is amazing that some people have perfect scores, because the stages with those endless moving logs is hard not to lose points on. My big problem was the I didn't use the tunnels, except for once. The second tunnel I took was a dead end, and I had to backtrack 5 screens. I hear that if you use a tunnel it is the same as like 4 screens on top.

snes super ghouls and ghosts, goddam I love that game. I love the sound effects, and music. I like it so much that I have all the SPC actual music dumped from the game on my computer. I have that game too of course, and on an emulator, but it is my only copy. Seems interesting that you are looking for only one snes game, and that one happened to be a fav of mine too.
