  1. Just realized Kenny Rogers was a Nintendo fan vs. the other handhelds.  From The Gambler: "If you're gonna play the Game Boy, you gotta learn to play it right."

    2. joeatari1

I've thought of that for years, every time I hear the song.  I laughed out loud when I read this!🤣

  2. Holy cow - I have always had 18+ allowed on Steam and am no prude, but this year's discovery queue has some outright hardcore porno games.

Game engines have probably just  made it easier for these accomplishments for smaller developers.

Anyway, back to some demo videos...

    1. Frozone212

Hardcore porn shouldn't even be ALLOWED on steam. I thought they had higher standards then this. How i miss 2004

    2. Rick Dangerous

      Rick Dangerous

Which ones are your favorite so far?

    3. thanatos

@Rick Dangerous if you must know, the one that made me go "Holy crap!" for the fact it exists and is on Steam was "Operation Lovecraft: Fallen Doll"

Beware to anyone easily offended!  This ain't no Custer's Revenge!

  3. Finally got through my post-30+ year playthrough of Zelda 2.  Only 2 games/1 retry.  (Don't ask how many savestates...)  :D

Now deciding what's next.  Metroid, SM2/3?  Do I dare even try Ninja Gaiden, which I never managed to beat the final boss back then because the 2nd to last was so awful?

    1. wongojack

From that list, I would pick Metroid.  It's much less annoying than the rest of your list.

    2. thanatos

Thought of another one I had beaten - Kid Icarus, might do that next.   Metroid seems easy with maps.

    3. Razzie.P

I've always felt Ninja Gaiden was always pretty easy up until that last bit.  Those bosses, yeah... those'll probably be a pain even with save states.   Maybe rewinds or something might help.   But yep, if you have a map, Metroid isn't hard at all

  4. Dear Micro Center, can you stop emailing me about writing a product review?  I only bought a friggen SD card.

    1. jgkspsx

Oh man, I had the same experience. However, their solid state memory devices ARE pretty awesome...

  5. I have my cell phone number set to 867-5309 in the company directory for obvious reasons.  Someone just sent me a message saying "I tried to call you at 8675309 but didn't get and answer."   OMFG.

    3. GoldLeader

Now I wanna know more!  Are they a corporate type so into their work they didn't even notice?  At any rate you should send them a video of the song, With a note saying "Maybe this will help you memorize it"...

    4. frankodragon

Whisper "Tommy Tutone" in their ear and they still probably wouldn't understand.

  6. I don't remember Zelda 2 being such a M$%^$%#@^&ing B*%^h back in the day.  I remember it being fun.

My new playthough is becoming painful.  Thank the modern nerds for savestates!

    1. Frozone212

Nostalgia can be used for good, or it can screw us up so badly that there's no point in reliving the past.

In my case, Rebuying Goldeneye. Was hyped, so disappointed

    2. Kiwi

Select Cancel the first life/magic and go for the attack upgrade.  Those Bubble skulls are killable(Lots a stabbing) and worth 50 exp points.  Find exp bags.  Every 6th enemy you kill will drop a potion/exp bag. Once find a 1up on the overworld, don't collect and remember the location. You'll need it for the Great Palace. Remember where red potion in palace are, they respawn upon leaving/entering palace.  One town folks don't know which way is east or west telling you where Payapa Palace is.  I am not Error.

  7. FedEx woes continue.  Now they have my Tron Arcade1Up.  Says to be delivered today.  However this morning it left St. Paul, MN, which is two states away.  What?

That's so infuriating when that happens.  Hopefully it gets there soon!

    3. Albert

FedEx is my least favorite domestic carrier, especially FedEx Ground, which is how I assume your package was sent.  Hopefully you have your package soon!

    4. thanatos

What's funny is that if it's FedEx ground, a friend of mine is the manager of all of the drivers of the local routes - so they'll get immediate feedback if I talk to him.

  8. FedEx delivered my wife's Christmas present to the wrong place.  Tracking says "Left at leasing office".  We live in a house.

    1. Nathan Strum

      Nathan Strum

But they did deliver it. So... job done! Merry Christmas!

    2. joeatari1

Thanks for the panties.  I've needed some new ones for a while now.

    3. SoundGammon

Had a lady tell me the other day that she stayed home from work to get a FedEx package that she missed the day before, note said they'd try the next day. She saw the FedEx truck pull up and the driver got out with NO package and slapped another note on the door and took off!

  9. Just finished Legend of Zelda (1st quest) for the first time in 30+ years - buying the new Game and Watch gave me the urge to play it on an emulator all the way through.  How nostalgic!

And of course I used all the online maps I could - I am not going to brute force all the secrets me and my friends forgot all those years ago! :)

Been about ten years for me.

Me and my then 4 y/o Grandson got mebbe a good 1/3 of the way thru, a couple of years ago.

I had confidence that my(original)battery wouldn't fail, short test runs had worked out fine.

That was a disappointing day, for sure...

Even worse-I have an Everdrive, just wanted to do it on the real thing...

I've changed/evolved my tastes recently, but SNES Zelda was my "favorite game ever" for a couple decades.

    3. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

That game and watch sure is tempting, it looks amazing.

    4. thanatos

It's neat, super small, but playable.  Feels a bit light, they could have added some heavier materials to make it seem less cheaply made.

Also for the price I would think they could have at least included some maps and instructions.  The only included instructions is how to plug it into the charger, and then 4 pages of legalese in multiple languages.  Nothing on how to use it at all.

  10. Spotted the new Zelda Game and Watch at Walmart today, so I picked one up.  My Amazon pre-order didn't even have a ship date yet, so that's kinda weird.  Guess I will have an extra one soon.

Neat little gadget! (Didn't get the SMB one, so this is my first.)

    1. joeatari1

I saw a whole rack of them at my local Wal*Mart.  I probably should have picked one up while I was there.

  11. Upgrading to a new phone tonight.  I know I'm going to hate it simply due to old man syndrome. Had the current one for 5 years, which is definitely a record.

What kinda phone you going to? I usually keep a phone 2-3 years max. $200-$300 Android phones usually are only given security updates for a couple years and only get maybe 1 OS upgrade if you're lucky.

I did have a Moto E ($120) for a year then upgraded to a Moto G ($200) and had it 2 years. Then I bought a refurb Google Pixel 2 that I thought I'd be able to use a couple years, but it was a lemon and had to return it. Then I went back to a Moto G for a year or so before getting this Nokia 4.2 2 years ago. It's on Android 10 and sadly last Security patch it got was 8 months ago.

    3. thanatos

      I went from a Galaxy S7 to a Galaxy S20 FE.

I don't really worry about security update availability, because I don't install many apps, and don't go browsing unknown sites.

And yeah, I was heavily annoyed last night while in old man mode just due to all the notifications that started streaming in for all the apps I hadn't yet uninstalled or disabled.  And of course all the needless UX changes that aren't needed.  <shakes fist at cloud>

    4. GoldLeader

I love my Samsung Galaxy (I'm too lazy to go look and tell ya which one) almost as well as my previous Samsung Galaxy.  I need a sticker for it that says, "Don't laugh.  It's paid for."  My goal is to hold onto it until the sun explodes.

  12. I spotted an albino Dalmation today.

It was the least I could do for him.

    1. GoldLeader

       🤣 Awesome! 🤣

  13. At the art dealer I learned that people into Baroque were out of Monet.

7800Knight posted that joke yesterday, too.

Actually maybe. Though I broadened out of the specialty in 2013, it's still in my general area. What's wrong with the binding?

    3. thanatos

PM sent!  Though in 2013, you might not have even run into this issue yet.

    4. x=usr(1536)

Shoot me a PM.  I'm no longer in tech, but may something useful that can be dredged out of my brain.

  16. I asked a friend from England how his July 4th was today.  It was all in good fun of course.

Hey what was the most popular dance for Americans in 1776?

    2. Jamtex

It was a normal sunday. How was 'George Washington Traitor' day for you? :P

  17. Should hold me over for the rest of the summer.

  18. Garfield sucks.  Heathcliff is way better.  See video.

      Charlie Cat

@thanatos I like Heathcliff a lot. In fact, one of my favorite books of all time was a Christmas edition regarding him that I still treasure for years called, "Heathcliff's Night Before Christmas". :)

  19. You think Star Trek: The Motion Picture was bad in the theater?  Try being 10 years old and being brought to Dune at 8PM.

    1. IntelliMission

The only I-shouldn't-be-watching-this-movie moment in my childhood was when my mom brought me to Batman in 1989 (PG13, I was 9). The violence was not much more than the DC comic books I was reading at the time, but seeing it on the screen was different. I vividly remember "the taste of cool violence" when the Joker was killing people for fun.

Dune is kind of scary even for some adults and I found it disturbing the times I watched it on the TV as a kid, so watching it at 10 years old on the big screen must have been a traumatic experience.

As a kid, I don't think my parents ever brought me to a movie that was too complex or without enough action. In retrospective, it would have been cool.

    2. thanatos

Oh, I don't mean trauma or scariness, that stuff I thought was neat.  Most of the movie was so slowly paced I slept for at least half of it.

    3. doctorclu

Didn't see Dune in the theaters.  Hope to remedy that with the next Dune movie.  :D

  20. Years ago, at a Dave & Busters, my wife had spent all but 1000 of her tickets.

    "Anything else?"

And then she said "I would like 100 rubber snakes."

They had to go back and get another box, and count them out.  It was hilarious.

  21. Ever need a 'Come to Jesus meeting' of plastic lids to matching containers because half of each are missing?  Yeah, first world problems.

I just wanted to put some leftovers in the fridge and it took 3 tries.

    1. GoldLeader

Hehaa!  All the time!     Seems like something that would be easy huh?

    2. carlsson

Ah, the story about how Jesus fed 5000 people with five loafs of bread and two fishes, and had plastic containers ready to put away the leftovers.

  22. I have a brief cameo in the latest Kent Rollins youtube video.  But even the few here that have actually met me might not even spot it.

    1. GoldLeader

Awesome!   Now,  I don't know who that is...At first speed read,  I thought it said Kenny Loggins, but then I read it again even quicker, and came up with Henry Rollins...So I read it regular speed instead of trying to get through it in .04 nanoseconds and thought Cool!  Who's Kent Rollins?   (heh)

    2. SlidellMan

You're talking about that cowboy chef, right?

    3. thanatos

@SlidellMan Yup!  His recipes always look amazing.  I got to meet him and his wife, and try the food in person.  They are the nicest people you could imagine.

  23. Haven't turned on my PS2 for about 3 years until tonight, and the clock had the right date and was only 30 minutes slow.

    And I bought it new.

Such a fantastic unit the PS2 is thanatos. It's one of my favorite units of all time. 8^)

  24. I should probably clean out my office more often.  I just found a CompUSA corporate credit card, from a company I quit in 1999.
