  1. Some people deal with harsh realities using humor. I can't speak for Thanatos, but I do understand that kind of reaction, because I make these kinds of poor taste jokes plenty. I'd feel like I knew Chicky well enough that she wouldn't be offended. If anyone can take life by the horns, and come out on top it's Chicky. I think Thanatos knows that, and that may have been his point while struggling to find a smile in an otherwise worrisome situation.

Plus, I was pretty damn hammered. I don't even recall that post!

Ah well, can't take it back now.

  2.

that's what i always say to myself when i see darth vader and his telescoping lightsaber on ebay

Or when I tore apart my original Snowspeeder and Cylon Centurion to get the lights out of them.

I liked playing with electrical stuff.

  3. I'm still planning on bringing my CoCo 3 again for the museum. Hopefully I will have a nice little LCD this time around instead of lugging that CRT TV I brought last year.

And the wife isn't going this year, so look out ladies! :D

  4. Albert, since you preordered, you can try to play it starting this Friday. I understand they have an early start for those of us who preordered the game. I'm certainly going to give it a try on Friday. I played today until they turned it off...I had just warped into a battle with the Borg!

Tonight was hilarious. Since the servers were going down, they put Borg everywhere. The Earth starbase was full of drones that would kill you in 2 seconds. The space sectors were interesting trying to get through too. I managed to get away from a cube a couple of times, but was also blown up by them quite a few times.

Should we start an AA fleet? Currently I don't have any friends interested in playing.

  5. It will never be worth more than it's retail price. And this site estimates between 100,000 and 150,000 sold in the US.

Are there any common systems at all that sell for more than what they cost new? Sure, the TurboExpress is $200 on ebay. But it cost $300 new. Same with the Virtual Boy. The Jag was $250.

Now, some sealed systems may fetch more than the asking price. But it's usually still a poor investment when compared to inflation. My bet on the PSPGo would be to wait until they're dropped by Sony and being liquidated.

  6. I haven't read a lot about this new game, but I can't help feeling that it has the potential to be really boring. Don't get me wrong, I love most things Trek, but if you think about the day to day life of an average Starfleet officer, unless you get to be on the bridge, it must be a pretty mundane job.

To TNG watchers, remember the episode "Tapestry" where Picard almost dies and Q lets him go back and fix some mistakes he made in his acadamy days? When he gets back to the new future he finds himself on the Enterprise as a Lieutenant junior grade in the astrophysics department, with Worf as his immediate superior. He then tells Q he would rather DIE than be that loser! That's what I imagine this game to be like.

Maybe to me the allure of Trek, like Star Wars, has never been about the "universe" they inhabit, but the great characters and stories.

Everyone is captain of their own ship. As little sense as that makes, they pulled it off.

The Federation is back at war with the Klingons (This takes place 20-30 years after Nemesis), so there will be plenty of fighting to do.

  7. I've enjoyed the 2 or 3 hours I've had the chance to play it.

However, the past two nights have been wrecked, last night I try to play, and it's 700 meg patch time. It took all night to download (and I have 20MB cable... So it was their end)

And now tonight I try to login, and they're doing maintenance.

Yeah, I know it's beta. But I just want to play!!!

  8. I don't know if it's this format or not, or something odd in my browser, but for the past 2 days all I get when clicking on any ebay links here is a 403-Forbidden from rover.ebay.com.

That's interesting, I wonder if they have some IP addresses from your ISP blocked for some reason. I'll have to do some digging.

Nevermind... My ad-blocking firewall was being too efficient. :)

  9. No offense, but you should be really afraid of selling that, just because of the ability of the government to say you own child porn. Personally I wouldn't even want that game in my house.

The way I've rationalized it, the game was freely available prior to the controversy, it's still available now, and I clearly haven't accessed the material, I think there's enough actual disgusting child porn out there for the government to concern themselves with. I have no intention of playing the game I doubt anyone else does either, it's an interesting curiosity, that's all.

Obviously you don't know how the government really works, even in the US. If they want to get your for something, they will. That game, according to US law, is child porn, no matter how stupid it seems.

The fact that you haven't 'accessed' it wouldn't matter to any overzealous prosecutor. Possession is possession.

Get rid of those things, and stop promoting them.

  10. I have tried to declare myself to be the CoCo expert here on AA, (because so far, I have the most CoCo stuff, and brought it to the MGC) but everyone's suggestions are correct. Cloud9 is awesome with the tested CoCos, you can't go wrong with him.

There are also several different joysticks, the black ones, and beige self-centering ones, which had both one and two-button versions.

I might go a little higher with the CIB if all the manuals are included. I can't imagine a lot of boxes are left.

There's also coco3.com, probably the biggest site for the CoCo community.

  11. Chicky, I feel your pain and sympathize, it's horrible going through this! We just spent $800 last month to get a tumor removed from my dog's mouth. The vet says it was malignant and will most definitely come back, probably within the next month or two. He's a 10 year old German Shepherd, his hips are starting to fail, and it would just be cruel to put him through another surgery when the tumor comes back.

So he's just getting extra spoiled for the time we have left with him. He got his very own plate of ham and mashed potatoes at our Christmas dinner. Lasted about 10 seconds!

Here he is with his tennis ball. He's a 'large breed', 115 lbs, people think he's a wolf. :)
