  1. Although I generally get a kick out of pretty much any fighting game, my absolute favorite at the moment is Garou, Mark of the Wolves for Dreamcast. It's a Dreamcast port of the SNK Neo Geo game and I love it with the original Sega ASCII stick. 2D SNK fighters kick ass. :)

  2. Due to its coolness when it first came out and due to the fact it has aged really well almost 20 years later, I'd have to pick Star Wars. I was blown away by that game in 84 and still love to play it to this day. To me, this game really illustrated how great Atari was when they were at the top of their game.

    Pun intended.

  3. Thanks to people who responded to this thread. After considering taking apart my CX-80 to see if it was modified - I chickened out and came up with a better solution (for me and someone else I hope!)

Albert - I just placed an order for the CX22 version of MC TB. Rather than exchange the one I have, I'd rather wait and see if the new version works. If it does, I'll come up with some way to give away my current CX80 version that isn't working with my trackball to someone here on the board.

  4. I haven't had time to look inside the trackball as I've been preparing for a vacation (thank God :) ) But when I get back from holiday, I'll determine if the CX-80's problem is due to the fact it needs to be modified. If that's the case I'll send Atariage a picture of the inside of the thing.

I'm not worried about the money or an exchange. Since nobody else has reported a problem, I'm more convinced than ever that it's my trackball.

    Thanks for everyone's feedback though.

  5. I don't have an ST mouse, so that's not an option. But I just played Centipede on the 7800 and the TB seems to be fine.

I also tried the original Missile Command in JS mode and it worked as well. This is odd to be sure. I'm certainly not blaming the game - if anything I'm leaning more towards the trackball not working in trackball mode. But since I don't have any other way to test this theory, I'm stumped.

  6. Just got Missile Command TB today (Thanks Atariage for the fast shipping, BTW). Anyway, slapped it into my 7800 and plugged in the good old CX-80 and to my dismay found that the cursor goes nowhere quickly.

I tried both trackball and joystick modes just to be sure, but got no response either way.

So.....my question is. Does this not work on a 7800 for some reason or is there something wrong with my trackball? I bought the TB new a few months ago and it does work fine on other 2600 and 7800 games, so it seems to work.....

Also, the version of Missile Command I purchased is for my trackball, so I'm a bit bummed as you might imagine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

And Albert - great label on the game!

  7. I like the Jag version alot, but yeah, the PS version of Raiden is a bit better. Also Raiden 2 is great fun if you like this sort of shooter. I was lucky enough to pick up a copy years ago with my original PS and still dig it out occasionally. And as an extra trivia bit - if you are brave enough to do it, this version of Raiden allows you to place a TV on its side so you can have the original aspect ratio of the arcade without the annoying GIANT status display eating up half your normal 4x3 screen.

  8. I love videogames.

I currently own every current system sans Xbox.

    Money is not an object.

Although I generally regard Microsoft with the same affection I might lavish on an oozing head wound - this has nothing to do with my Xboxless existence.

Rather, there is currently not one game or one facet of the Xbox (Halo came close though) that just calls to me in that "buy me now you fool" kinda voice that would make me long to have an Xbox. Every gamer knows what I'm talking about. It's the voice that made me dish out 250 smackers for a Jaguar in 94 when I knew deep in my heart it would fail.....but I had to have it anyway, damnit!

That same voice made me buy a Master System, a Lynx, a Genesis, an SNES, a Saturn, a Playstation, a PS2, a Gamecube...you get the picture....

That voice doesn't exist with Xbox and to be honest I'm not completely sure why. Although I gladly admit to hating MS, I would buy their system in a second if (when) they give me reason to. I might hate them, but I love games and when they can prove that they have a steady stream of unique titles on Xbox I can't find anywhere else I'll get one.

I admit that many Xbox games are beautiful - clearly superior graphically to most titles I have for PS2 or Gamecube. But every time I start to get lured by that beauty - I play the game in question and find that while not bad - it just really isn't anything special.

Halo is cool and a GREAT game. Whether at a friend's house or on a retail kiosk, I totally groove on this game. But MS's problem (to me, at least) is for the few "Halos" in the Xbox library there are 10 lackluster titles.

One day I'll probably have an Xbox hooked into my home network for online goodness - I just don't know when MS will inspire me to do it. And that ultimately is the problem for MS - if they can't lure me, a diehard videogame dork, to buy their product - how can they expect to grab the casual gaming public who is forced to choose between Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube?

But enough of my ramblings. Here's a link to something my wife did based on her feelings of the Xbox......

  9. While I was having a crap day at work today my darling wife calls me and says someone called her (she works at a Software Etc.) and wanted to know if SE would take a Sega Nomad in for trade. She said no, but told the guy she would buy the Nomad if it was in good shape......

Lo and behold, I arrive home from work to find a pristine Nomad in need of only an AC adaptor. The best part is she (meaning me :) ) only paid 25 bucks for it. I had been looking for a good one on Ebay, but kept getting outbid - so I thought this was great!

And, the guy is going to bring in his AV cable to the store tomorrow so I can also play Genesis games on TV too.

I know it might not seem like much - but it sure cheered me up today.

Now my weekly cart searches will include Sega as well as Atari.

  10. Just got my copy from Lee (thanks, BTW!) and I must say I like this version of Klax even better than the one on the Lynx. Admittedly, the Lynx version looks better and sounds better, but with the 7800 joypad (instead of holding the Lynx vertically to play the game) gameplay is much more comfortable on the 7800.

In fact, I find myself playing the game far more than I would have thought possible. It's a great game and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the 7800. So far it's my favorite game for the system (followed by Ms. Pacman.)....But Ikari Warriors is on its way so we'll have to see how I feel once it arrives. :)

    Thanks again Lee!

  11. I can't remember if I posted about this or not, but at this same store about two months ago they used to have a decent sized portion of one wall devoted to 2600 and 7800 games (some even NIB). I had seen the selection on several occasions, but never got around to picking too many games up - until one day I got the bug to run down there on the motorcycle and simply grab everything me and the missus had decided would be fun to play. :)

Imagine my surprise when I walk in and see that my Atari wall had been replaced with a bunch of common NES stuff. When I asked the owner what happened, she replied that some guy had come in and bought every Atari item she had in one purchase. On a subsequent visit she told me she saw the lot of games up on Ebay. :x

I know I shouldn't have been upset that I missed out on getting some more games from her because I didn't act fast enough, but it did burn me a bit that someone (probably fueled by the infamous Antique Roadshow episode) simply grabbed all the games to sell them again.

Damnit! I would have played them - not sold them! :)

  12. I got my VCS in 1981 for Christmas. To this very day, the memory of me and my sister engaged in hour-long combat sessions or Asteroid marathons rank as my favorite videogame moments. Several of my friends had an Atari years before I did and I was THRILLED when we finally got our own. :)

  13. So, me and the wife are out trolling for used games at our normal spots today when we stop by a little game shop we like. After checking everything out (lots of PS, Nintendo, SNES games, etc.) we start talking to the owner and my wife mentions I like Atari stuff.

The owner then goes to the back and comes out with a box of loose games and manuals she had back there because she didn't have room to display them in the shop.

    Anyway, I picked up:

    Air-Sea Battle w/manual

    Video Olympics

    Breakout w/manual

    Othello

    Gunslinger

    Space Cavern w/manual

    Frogs and Flies w/manual

    Demon Attack

    Plus manuals for:

    Combat

    Atlantis

    Cosmic Ark

    Star Voyager

I know it's nothing too special, but I got all of it for 8 bucks and it was such a cool feeling to find the games after not seeing anything Atari related in that store for several months. And all because my wife just asked about Atari :)

BTW, I'm not really interested in the manuals, so if anyone would like them, send me a message and I'll send them to you. It's the least I can do considering all the enjoyment I get from the community here.

  14. For me it was Super Mario World for the SNES. It was the first game I had for the system and I was completely blown away by the scaling and rotating sprites in the game. I also loved the sound effects and made myself out to be quite the dork by trying to explain to my girlfriend at the time why I thought all of this was so cool......

  15. You'll love this game! It controls very well and the carnage is outstanding. Plus, if you can get your hands on one of the force feedback wheels for the PS2, you won't be disappointed. There's no mention on the TMB packaging that it works with the wheel - but it does. It really takes the game to a higher level.

BTW, if you pick up a network adaptor for your PS2, Sony will send you a free copy of TMB that can be used for online play.
