  1. Everything you listed above has been put in. Additionally, high scorer name registration, Taito Cop message, shot counting, Preset Mode, “wall of death”, and everything else you remember are in too… I have ever a Space Invaders specialist certifying the game in this very moment. You can find some more information at my web site: www.geocities.com/vgbelloq By the way: Has Space Invaders Part II (or Deluxe) ever been released for a home console before? You said about a feature lacking from home versions...
  2. So till this point it looks like we have a draw between the rainbow font and the solid color font... It’s gonna be a difficult choice… A couple of friends have told me “Collection Pack” doesn’t sound right. So I am thinking about changing it. But doesn’t “Collection” just sound too “plain”? About the Space Invaders logo color scheme, the colors will change in accordance with the option the invader cursor is on. The green version is the color scheme for Space Invaders Part II. Yellow is the color for SI Color, and white is for SI b&w. The first twos mimic the respective arcade logo schemes. Shipping will depend on plastic cases availability. Right now I am negotiating with several suppliers. Lets see how things work out… In Japan there was a different overlay version, using several color strips for the invaders. I think it’s shown on some SI reissues for home consoles. You would also include this version. But I find the idea you described above just great. Please show me that. I am very curious. I am a big fan of Atari, but didn’t have the guts to start programming on Atari machines yet… I would be nice to learn a thing or two.
  3. Maybe I should have placed a number next each option... well... Hey Dennis, how is your 5200 SI port coming along? I still don't understand... Isn't the 5200 able to generate a b&w screen in high resolution? I saw the background and foreground color must be the same, just different shades from the same color. But if you use the darkest hue, wouldn't it be enough? I mean, wouldn't it be close enough to black? I have no previous experience with the 8-bit Ataris but I am always willing to help.
  4. I friend of mine has suggested changing the "Space Invaders Collection Pack" name to just "Space Invaders Collection". He also suggested me changing the Collection font to something more "ColecoVision-ish". Showing below are snapshots from conceptual artworks to the new name/font and to the original name using a new font. Please note they are just work in progress, so you will see lots of dithering, antialising, etc, which will be removed in the final version. I would greatly appreciate any feedback... He has suggested another wonderful idea, which I am showing in the next snapshot. Now, depending the option your invader cursor is on, the color pattern for Space Invaders will change. Nice, eh! Paul Slocum, another good chap, has suggested me including a fourth game "mode", so here it's. To be honest, he didn't suggest me including the mode, but said like "Hey, it isn't the SI I know! Where is the green overlay?!". Thanks Paul! Any comments, suggestions, etc?
  5. Wow, this new Christmas version for your avatar is something... unspeakable! Interesting... I have never tried it. I will try... To be honest, SI wasn't released yet because I am currently looking for a plastic case supplier. But things are starting to work out, so I hope everything will be ready in 2 or 3 months. I know it is a long time and I would just send this game to Sean Kelly or someone else to manufacture, destroying old Coleco carts, but I prefer to wait and set these new cases up, so next developments will be a snap and no precious cartridge will be harmed in the process...
  6. Thanks for all the compliments guys! Counting shots are in there, rainbow and 55th shot too. What is "wall of death"? Is it that "track" the last big invader leaves? There are some features and tricks you didn't list but are included nevertheless: Taito Cop hidden message, engine trouble, Preset mode, name registration, number of bases and a few more surprises...
  7. Digital Press and Jess Ragan (The Gameroom Blitz) posted reviews to Space Invaders Collection Pack, a new ColecoVision game due to be released soon. You can see the reviews here: http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/spaceinv...aderscoleco.htm http://grblitz.overclocked.org/colex2.htm I will update my web site soon...
  8. Hi, I am not 100% sure yet. It will depend on material costs and demand. But I believe around $25 would be a fair price... Maybe ever including shipping. Since this port took so long to complete, took so much programming effort, I think it deserve an equally great package presentation. Luckily, right now the Real (Brazilian money)/ US dollar ratio is very high, so I think I can invest on a good package and still keep the price as low as possible. I really think many of you will appreciate the final result. Thanks for the support, Eduardo
  9. Hi, I am happy to announce that "Space Invaders Collection Pack" has entered beta testing. For all of you don't know about it yet, "Space Invaders Collection Pack" includes the two originals Taito's Space Invaders games, namely Space Invaders and Space Invaders Part II (aka Deluxe). The game is now expected to show in cart format soon (24KB), including manual and box. Since it is just a hobby project, I am planning to build just a few cart format units (probably no more than 50). I will include a "reservation" form in my web site soon, so I would be able to estimate the "interest". Thanks, Eduardo Mello
  10. Hi, Much like emulators, Taito can't stop me of programming this port. But they can, of course, stop me of selling it "explicitly". As I said before, I don't want to make money using someone else properties... I see the port as homage, a fan made work. I don't think it would sell more than 50 units. But I understand Taito can see it differently... About the Sean Kelly situation, I think it's a little bit different, since he wants to copy existing ColecoVision games. Those games aren't his work. Someone else still wants to make money selling the originals for the exact same machine (in this case, Telegames)... Please, don't get wrong. I understand Sean motivations perfectly; his concerns about preservation, and think he has made many great classic games projects. But I also understand the nature of this market... Well, before I get sued by Taito , I am releasing new screenshots. You can see it here: http://www.geocities.com/vgbelloq/newshot2.html
  11. Good question... Maybe it isn't legal... Or maybe it's as legal as any other fan home made item. Star Wars fans have produced them for years with almost no problem at all. I see it as a tribute for Taito's original work. I have ever kept Taito's name in the game, as a way to say it isn't my game; it's Taito's. I don't want to be cynical, just pulling their name out, and naming the game Opcode Invaders or something like it when everyone is able to see clearly it is really Space Invaders. Also, I don't want to make money using someone else property. You see, I am working on this port for more than a year. Lets say I have worked on it for six months full time. It would be 6 x 20 (business days) x 8 hours a day = 960 hours. Now, if I sell the carts for $30 each, it would be $1500 for 50 carts. So, I would be earning $1.5 for hour! Man, I earn a lot more working for my company. And I didn't ever include the cart parts costs! Furthermore, it is a port for a 20 years old, out of production, very niche game platform. Any way, I think this topic is a very controversial one and would generate many hours of debate...
  12. Hi everyone! My ColecoVision port of both original Space Invaders games is still going on, though slowly... The original Space Invaders and opening screens are completed for a while, and now I am working on Space Invaders Part II. This game is a tad more complex as several graphic routines demanded rewriting. I have corrected a few bugs in the process too. You can see some new screenshots here: http://www.geocities.com/vgbelloq Thanks for the interest, Eduardo Mello
  13. Don't worry, Paul. My good friend Eduardo Luccas will be making a PCB layout for these cases. But he still need to see the samples before. I will keep you informed... Eduardo Mello
  14. Hi, I just can't undestand why would custom PCBs be so difficult to create... Ok, I think I have done everything possible to help. My mission is acomplished. Now I need some ColecoVision cases... Eduardo Mello
  15. Hi, Too bad standard circuit boards won't fit these cases... I was checking these websites (in Portuguese) for ColecoVision circuit boards. Maybe you are able to order the VCS boards there. They make any kind of PCB... I am not sure but I think my friend Eduardo Luccas has already done a CAD drawing for a 2600 board... I will check with him. http://www.homeshopping.com.br/~griffus/ http://www.tec-ci.com.br It looks like Patola doesn't make ColecoVision cases after all... But I am not completely sure yet. I was thinking about going there personally this weekend... Eduardo Mello
  16. Hi, I have posted some pictures of the cart cases in my website... www.geocities.com/vgbelloq/newcases.html
  17. Hi, Finally I got my cart cases samples today. For everyone here hasn’t seen my previous thread, I found a plastic cases company here in Brazil that does produce new Atari cart cases in high volumes. The cases look good quality. I will try to post some pictures later this week, since right now I have lots of work to do... Eduardo Mello
  18. Hi, I am looking for a ColecoVision in good working condition. I would be happy with just the console. But it must be in perfect working condition. I can pay by Paypal or money order. Thanks, Eduardo Mello
  19. Hi, I would like to share with all of you ColecoVision fans that Space Invaders Collection Pack is coming along very well. I have just completed the opening and the original Space Invaders game, including sound. Now I just need to finish Space Invaders Part II, which is half-way complete. I am still hoping to delivery it around october, but it will depend on if I am able to gather all necessary package parts till there... Thanks, Eduardo Mello
  20. Hi, Here is a list of my Brazilian carts for trade: Polyvox: Defender Homerun Adventure Yars Revenge Asteroids Combat Space Invaders Tank Attack Vanguard Enduro Decathlon Megamania CCE: Superman Mash Crackpots Bingo Cosmic Ark Tennis Football Sneak'n Peak Wizard of War (sic) The labels are ok to mint... I am desperated for a ColecoVision and would trade a bunch the games for a working unit... Eduardo Mello
  21. Hi, That is true... Piracy is very creative about finding new ways for coping and making things cheaper... But please don't forget the entire computer market suffered the same problem. Things wouldn't be too bad if the software industry had developed some technology and become independent, but there also was just piracy. I just can't remember a single company from the market reserve era which was able to survive after the reserve law expired (some 10 years after it was created). It's also important to remember we (Brazilians) were under a dictatorial military government in that time, so there was some strange things going on...strange interests... And this Asian thing, I think they, differently from here, copy things to get know-how, make cheaper and sophisticated versions, and most import, sell a hell lot of this worldwide. I mean, there is a consistent and coordinated policy behind the whole thing... I don't think so... Polyvox was far bigger than others VCS game makers and had a broader distribution channel, so that was important. When you have many makers for the same thing, considering you are in a low budget market, price is the most import item. Brazilian people usually bought the Polyvox official 2600 (cause it was sold by almost every department store, you could lease it and it featured a real guarantee), but preferred the cheaper pirated carts instead. I think the Atari name was seen as a kind of VHS thing, a name for a standard... Now, I really like this Brazilian VCS cart thing! Half of my Atari collection was made just trading Brazilian carts for original ones! I have some Polyvox and CCE titles here in good state. If someone would be interested.... Eduardo
  22. Ok, now the truth... The only licensed Atari VCS cart maker was Polyvox, a Gradiente group company (now a Nintendo licensed)... There were licensed makers for Intellivision and Odyssey2 too (Sharp and Philips respectively). The problem with pirated VCS games was as follow: Back in the 80's the Brazilian government though creating a law for protecting new born computer industry was a good idea. They though if no computer made outside Brazil was allowed to enter the country, neither a foreign computer company (videogames included) was allow to establish here, it would end leading to a development of the local industry and technology. But I think it was a backfired shot, cause the only thing really developed was piracy. The Brazilian companies copied almost every system back then, with no imposing law against them (instead the law was favoring them!). Polyvox wasn't legally allowed to form a official joinventure with Atari, so they licensed officially just the name, but unofficially the games and hardware. They couldn't do nothing against piracy cause it was "legal"... I think more than 20 pirate companies made games for VCS, releasing every game they could copy. CCE was also a major...uhm...supplier of VCS games, but other companies released a greater number of titles. Some times they changed the onscreen names (because names were still protected!)... Anyway, if you want trading some titles, feel free to ask me... Eduardo
  23. Hi, The MSX computers got 2 versions of this game released by Konami itself. And the first MSX Yie Ar game was later released for Famicom too (it was the first game Konami released for Famicom in Japan, back in 85). But I wouldn't be surprised if some other classic console ends getting a port too....... Eduardo Mello
  24. Hi, I have just created a mailing list on programming ColecoVision and Adam. If someone would be interested: Post message: [email protected] Subscribe: [email protected] Thanks, Eduardo Mello
  25. Hi, A friend of mine sent me a demo version of your game and I must confess I was completely stunned by it. The sound alone was unbelievable! It did sound like 3+ channels! Very impressive. Now I am very interested on getting a copy when it is released. I hope you don't just make it available for the luck ones going to CGE. Remember there are some classic gaming enthusiasts who don't live in US... Good work!
