I can't believe it!!! If you take a close look at the photo showing the Atari cart in Patola's site (www.patola.com.br), you will find the cart looks like a standard Coleco cart for ColecoVision!!! I am not kidding! But you will also see the cart does have the two bolts bellow for plugging like a VCS cart and a small hole on side, probably to place a switch for game bank selecting. It's amazing!

Hi! Is there any ColecoVision programmer here? Just curious...
-
Hi Junie! It's a interesting point. To be honest I believe that they aren't exactly Coleco cases but CCE cases instead. I don't know if you guys know about CCE carts but they are shaped much like normal Coleco carts just without the Coleco name. Now, I don't know about the internals. I can sacrifice a CCE cart and take a look. Anyway they are going to send me a sample, so I think it's better to wait... My Space Invaders webpage is www.geocities.com/vgbelloq

Hi again, Interesting points here... I am starting to believe this topic brings bad memories for some people... Well, of course I am not going to sell a game forever. But neither is any other game company going to sell either. Games have a lifespan after all... Maybe the 2 runs idea would be the more suitable... The hardcore collectors would have theirs limited edition version and the casual gamers would have a "normal" edition. Maybe if I add some extras... I am working on a conversion of Space Invaders and Space Invaders Part II for ColecoVision.... Thanks

Hi Russ, Uhm... it's possible, but Dynacom was never famous for making clones (just pirated ). I will check the exact description in the catalog. Anyway several prototype VCS games (Donald's Speedboat, Xevious, Cubicolor) were sold here in Brazil during the 80's, long before the internet era, so I think some pirates did have access to prototype games...

Hi Pitbull, I remember your nick from several eBay auctions. I think it's a good nick to use on eBay (scaring... but I have managed to win almost every auction we were bidding along :-) ). The cases look a lot like Coleco cases for 2600 (but black, maybe cause CCE used this same format), but the photo isn't very clear. I asked about a sample unit... They just make cases for 2600 (and MSX computers). The others Atari systems were never sold here, so very few people know them. I would like to make it clear I am not selling it. I was asked about it and just want to help someone here planning on making VCS carts, since I am currently making a game myself (for CV, not 2600)...

Hi, Someone has asked about the internal layout of the cases. I have just forwarded this question for Patola and will try to get a sample...

Hi, As a vg collector myself I can see the joy of purchasing a limited edition game, but it can leed to frustation too. For exemplo, since I live in Brazil I am not able to go to CGE every year (to be honest I have never attended it ). This way I am most the time unable to buy the exclusive titles which are released there. It's very frustrating... Do you think two runs for a game, a limited numbered/signed and a non-limited, would be interesting. Some releases for modern games are fashioned this way. I just want to satisfact the greatest possible number of community members...

Hi, Ok, if someone is interested on these cases just send me a private e-mail and we can create a order list. I can research for a cheap shipping method, it is just a matter if someone is going to be interested...

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to post it but... Several people here have asked me about a Brazilian company called Patola which does produce standard VCS cart cases. Yesterday a sent them an e-mail and today they have replyed me. So here is the info: Atari case = R$ 1.04 per unit Tax = 15% Total = R$ 1.20 Total for 100 units = R$ 120.00 US$/R$ ratio = 2.80 -> 100 unit ~ US$ 42.86 But the minimum order is R$ 240.00 ~ US$ 85.72 (200 units) Of course, there will be shipping charges too... I hope have helped... PS: Patola's web site: www.patola.com.br

Hi, I was wondering what you guys think about numbered, limited edition games (for classic systems). I am looking for some feedback before I release my CV game... I am new here, so please excuse me if this topic has already been posted before... Any comment would be appreciated...

My 6th Raiders of the Lost Ark arrive today, from BRAZIL.
opcode replied to MattyXB's topic in Atari 2600
Hi, I checked it again and everything is right now. I think this manual is a direct translaction from the original game walkthrough sheet... -
Hi, Since O2 was very popular in Brazil, I would suggest the following games: K.C. Munchkin, Pick Axe Pete, K.C.'s Krazy Chase, Attack of the Timelord, Turtles and Killer Bees. I find Timelord to be the funest of all, with Turtles a close second. And if you turns to become a serious O2 collector, chances are you are going to want two exclusive Brazilian O2 titles, Clay Pigeon and Comando Noturno...

ColecoVision Space Invaders status...
opcode replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi, Probably the first cases you saw were MSX cases... (a very popular computer here, and very similar to CV) I think the cases will fit with no problem since several Brazilian VCS cart makers (aka pirates ) use them, and most of them buy their game boards from Taiwan... -

Hi, I think I can help you. The correct order for your Brazilian manual is: 2 5 3 6 4 (I don't know if page 1 cames first or last since it is just a blank page). The manual explains step by step how to find the ark in Portuguese... -
ColecoVision Space Invaders status...
opcode replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi, Surely! A few minutes ago a sent an e-mail to Patola's (that's a strange name ) sales department asking for these Atari cases. I will let you know about any news as soon as they reply me. I asked about the possibility to produce CV cart cases too. Uhm.... I think I know who is this missing guy from StellaList you are talking about... -
ColecoVision Space Invaders status...
opcode replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi again! Prices will depend on cost to manufacture the entire package. I hope it isn't going to exceed the $30~35 range, otherwise the whole thing wouldn't be viable... Space Invaders Part II does have some differences from Deluxe, mostly invaders round formation and scoring. And there are some hidden differences too... Hey Dennis, here in Brazil there is a plastic company that does produce Atari VCS cart cases. You can visit www.patola.com.br and take a look (the page is in Portuguese). I am not sure about how much they cost but since US dollars/Real ratio is 2.80 right now, it would be pretty cheap. I was planning on using this exact same company to produce the ColecoVision cases. But I still need to find how much the mold will be here. Obviously I would be interested if someone start producing these cases elsewhere or about forming a consortium to produce them. -

Hi, Sacrificing old carts to build new ones just doesn't look right to me (I think it's against Bira Bira commandments... ). I am planning to manufacture the shells. In the first it's going to cost a lot cause I will need a "matrix" for the plastic, but after that the production costs will be minimal (a few cents per case I think). I am still researching about the whole thing... Eduardo Mello -
Hi everyone! I would like to let all of you know about the current status of my little project... Space Invaders Collection Pack will be sold as a 24KB ColecoVision cartridge (complete with box and manual). The finished pack will be comprised by two different games and a small variation: Space Invaders (the original arcade game by Taito) in two flavors, color and black&white (no significant difference beside color) and Space Invaders Part II (the follow up arcade released by Taito in Japan and renamed Space Invaders Deluxe in US, just in color mode). Also included is a opening/selection screen and a surprise "boot" screen which I think ColecoVision fans will love. I am not sure about the final price yet neither about a release date, but I am estimating finishing it close to this year's end. Cost is difficult to estimate right now cause I am planning to make the carts here in Brazil. Completation status is as follow: Opening sequence: 99% done, just some small tweaks left. Space Invaders : 90% done, still need some small tweaks on sound. Space Invaders Part II: around 50% done, maybe more. On the technical side, the game was made 100% Z-80 machine language and includes every feature from the original arcade games, ever the same bugs (some quite famous). Some hidden tricks from the originals are included too, as are a few new ones... I has created a small web site to post news about the project and mostly screenshots (and a playable demo too). You can view it going to www.geocities.com/vgbelloq. Please note it is a modest site, since I don't have the time to polish it. I have posted some news screenshots there this week, including this opening screen http://opcode.20megsfree.com/title.gif Thanks for the interest! Eduardo Mello

Interesting... I live in Brazil and have always thought Turbo was a released game for the 2600. I have a small picture from a Dynacom (a Brazilian company famous for making pirated VCS carts) catalog and it shows the Dynacom label for Turbo. Also, the game description ..."racing across cities and bridges"... sounds like Turbo to me... The picture looks like it was drawn by a 10 years old but it's real...

New ColecoVision game with demo released...
opcode replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi Manuel! I am doing everything in pure Z-80 assembly. Since it is a conversion, I need to have control about everything that is going on in a very low level. As to the tools, I am using a Zilog assembler, Win WordPad, win Paint, PaintShopPro and Gremlin, a Z-80/R800 disasm by Cybernight, a friend of mine. I think it isn't really a very sophisticated tools set, but... :-) Eduardo Mello -
New ColecoVision game with demo released...
opcode replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi everybody! I would wish to thank everyone for the great response and interest to Space Invaders for CV. Now I feel confident that the project has the necessary support to go forward. I will try to keep all of you informed about the game progress and to what is coming up. In the meantime, if anyone has some comments or sugestions, please let me know... I hope it is going to be just the first of many projects I will do for CV or others classic systems. Thanks, Eduardo Mello -
New ColecoVision game with demo released...
opcode replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi everybody! I am working on a new game for ColecoVision. To be honest, it isn't exactly a new game... I am doing a convertion of the arcade game Space Invaders. A demo is already available on my web page: www.geocities.com/vgbelloq I hope you Coleco and classic videogame fans enjoy it... :-) Eduardo Mello -
Thanks for the compliment! Now I will need do my best to justify your confidence... How about the SI Part II question, which version would you like more? I was planning on using the original Japanese Taito version... But I think I would include the Midway one if someone care about it.. :-) Hope hear of you, Eduardo Mello
