It's amazing. In 1990, the high school I graduated from was destroyed by the only f5 tornado to ever hit the Chicago area. IIRC, it's also the only F5 to ever strike the US in August (ath the time). I was watching some videos, and even though I despised the school, dreading the way my peers would abuse me physically and mentally every day, I still shed a tear.

Last couple years where I live has seen a few tornados. Coal City, which is a stones throw from where I live got hit with an F2 in November of 2013, just before Thanksgiving, then a year and a half later it was hit by an F3. That second one - the strongest in the Chicago area since the Plainfield F5 - touched down about 3/4 mile - mile from where I currently live. Seriously.. If the weather service offers basic storm spotting classes in your area, take one. THey're free.
