Here's the alternate version of the manual that I mentioned in my earlier post.  Anyone out there have this version?  Not sure how scarce it is; I don't see it online.

When I was researching mine, I did come across a few examples of the black lettered version.  I can’t recall where exactly but I think it was past eBay auctions.

As far as mine goes, I’ve examined the text and it seems to be identical to yours with the black letters. The heat seeking missile section on ours is different than the copy posted earlier.

Wow, Bill, that manual's really interesting.  I've never seen it before.  It's missing the name of the game across the top, and the logo is on a white background.  Have you read through it to see if there's any other difference compared to the regular manual?

The regular manual has the name of the game in white across the top of the cover.  I have one where the name is in black, which I've never seen anywhere else.  In that manual, the only difference I see is in the "Maximum Heat-Seeking Missiles" paragraph of the SCORING section.  The regular manual indicates that the scoring for Maximum Heat-Seeking Missiles is the same as that for Minimum Heat-Seeking Missiles.  But my alternate manual specifies different score values for Maximum Heat-Seeking Missiles.  You might want to pay particular attention to this section, when comparing manuals.

I haven’t compared yet. I’ll check that out this week to compare. My only guess is that this might be an early release manual but who knows?

  3. Picked up a spacechase game recently after noticing a different looking manual to it.  Of course in my mind I’m thinking it might be one of the mythical initial versions since it’s different. Long story short, it’s not but I still cannot find a pic of this version of the manual anywhere else. Anyone else have this version?

This does seem a bit odd. If they are really wanting $25 for said item, then just don't put the BO as an option in the auction? Unless it is like the clock game and they want to see how high they can get you to go on the counter. So say they counter with the $24.75, then you come back with $22or $23. So now that I think about this, they are just trying to get you to offer as much as possible to make the most from the sale. I makes sense but then again, I rarely...RARELY sell on ebay so I'm not up on all the new etiquette.

If they’re pulling that I didn’t want to buy from them anyway.   I declined the offer and moved on.

Nice! I think there are two versions -- what's the part number on this one? IIRC I've only managed to keep one. The other is most likely lost, along with the Sears one I had (but that's easier to replace, I've found). IIRC @colormesticky had a pretty interesting one posted up here awhile back.

It doesn’t seem to have a normal Intellivision type number.  The only one I see is on the back        Int 028027.

Possible Super Pro Tutorvision on ebay.

It likely has the intv1988 board like the tutorvision.  What's not clear is which exec rom it has.

I looked that over for more than an hour last night trying to determine if it was.  In the end I just couldn’t see enough evidence that would make me pay that price for it.

Take opinions for what they are, but I do not see this set worth more than $525.  That is $75 for each 1571 and $100 for each 128.  Maybe being generous on the drives and less than so on the 128s, but the latter have aging wear and in my experience many more problems can lurk beneath.  (This actually bit me on a recent sale -- I wound up sending the buyer another 128 console.  It was supposed to be an exchange, but honestly I am not complaining after all the problems he had with my tested console.)

Agreed.  Even that’s a little generous in my opinion.

Depends on the rarity. Some boxes are so rare that even examples in horrible condition would still be in demand and worth keeping. Very few collectors would turn down really rancid boxes for Air Raid, Stadium Events, etc, especially if they didn't already have them and know they might never again get the chance to own one.

Some collectors who have concerns about authenticity might actually prefer a copy of a rare title or box in bad shape, as it's much more likely to be real than one in "too good" condition. Few scammers would go through the trouble of faking a box only to proceed with wrecking it, tearing it, aging it, etc. Sort of like how a box or cartridge "marred" by old store stickers does have the advantage of being more likely to be genuine. Those terrible Blockbuster stickers are good for something!

To get back to the main point, yes, some really rare boxes are worth keeping, even in really bad shape. They can just be placed in plastic box protectors to prevent further damage or to keep nearby games safe from contamination.

As an example, Grand Slam Tennis used to be considered the rarest Arcadia 2001 release, until 2017. In that year, a hoard of Arcadia NOS turned up in a barn in rural Kansas. Almost 20 boxed Grand Slams were among them. It instantly doubled the number of known copies for a game that often goes years without any good copies popping up. Some were in very good shape, while others just weren't. It was awful to see just how bad some of the copies were, as can be seen in the images that the wonderfully nice seller sent me at the time. Now, I don't know what the bad boxes actually sold for, only that they did end up selling, even in horrible shape. They were just that rare.

Wow, those are bad!!!!  I think I was the first to see her initial auctions and picked my sealed copy up for $40 as well as a few other rarer items.  That allowed me to nearly complete my Arcadia collection.  Still looking for Space Mission but I do have a Haminex version as a fill in but would really like to get the US version.
