FC Game Console and Famicom games.
Ace_1 replied to Lauren Tyler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Excitebike does. When I opened my cartridge there was a converter in it. I was pleased, since I have 2 Japanese Family Computer games and both of which I need to play. -
It's working again! And better than it ever did. Check it out: Hang-On working on my Model 1: Closeup of the converter on the Model 1: It FINALLY works on my Model 2: Closeup of the converter on the Model 2: Closeup of the converter's front(may be hard to see): Closeup of the converter's back: The pushbutton now works. No more running after a Sega Power Base Converter. Just need a card slot and a casing for the converter.

2 month old thread, but: SUCCESS! I've successfully made a Power Base Converter(no card slot yet) thanks to this diagram: http://devster.monkeeh.com/sega/sega2sms.png, except it has numerous flaws: 1) It only works on my Model 1 Genesis 2) The Pause button doesn't work 3) It's very finicky, works when it feels like it 4) It sometimes has a tendency to reset itself or crash, but that's my problem since I have the board out of a Genesis cartridge casing I'll put up a picture when I get my converter working properly to show that it DOES work.

What's the most I should pay for these systems?
Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Quick question, where I got my Sega Saturn, there's a Super Famicom that's complete with hookups and... A COPIER UNIT(complete too(!))! The boss(my friend) and I were arguing as to how much I should give him for it. We ended up coming out empty on the deal, but I was wondering whether $90 would be a reasonable price to offer him for the Super Famicom and copier unit(it's a Supercom Pro. 1 SP-3200). -

Can you take it back? Hell, no, I ain't doing that! This is the only Sega CD I have seen in Montreal and I'm not about to take it back. Come to think of it, the system's actual price was $160, but add in $20 in taxes, comes out to $180. Dude, you could've taken it back and bought the same system on eBay for half the price, even after shipping. You got screwed. NO! I ain't giving back something that costs MORE on eBay and have been running after for 1 year. It was there, I had to take the opportunity, otherwise, goodbye Sega CD. -

Did I get ripped off? Just got this today: Model 2 Sega Saturn with hookups, digital controller, steering wheel, Virtua Fighter, Super NES Game Genie and Space Harrier II for the Genesis: $30 -
Me too! I've been playing more Sonic lately than any other game, I even got a couple of the new handhelds that have come out -- if you haven't tried one and you like Sonic, get one, you'll LOVE it. But I would have Tails as my sidekick. Nathan I would actually like to have both him AND Sonic by my side(no need to stick to 1 particular person). I don't know how Knuckles would do, though. His temper combined with mine... ouch.
-
Just wondering which video game character people would like to have as their sidekick or partner or whatever. Mine would be: Sonic Recently, as indicated my signature(this started yesterday), I've been going through Sonic Mania(going nuts over something, just like I did with Gradius for the past 3 months), and I thought, what'd be better than to have Sonic standing beside me? I just find him to be the coolest of all characters I've ever seen, period. Who knows, if he'd actually be by my side, I could use him as my bodyguard. So who'll be your sidekick? Post who it is(no need to say why unless you want to) and what you'd want he/she to be there for. NO BASHING, PLEASE!

Actually, the Power Base Converter works, but the d-pad on the controllers don't respond, only buttons B and C do. What do you think of a TecToy chip on that thing? Makes me think this is a carbon-copy of original Sega hardware. Besides, TecToy is like Sega in Brazil and their consoles are officially licensed, it should work with everything you put in it, including the 32X, should you add an A/V jack from a Model 2 or 3 Genesis and wire up everything where it should go(RGB, stereo audio, composite video, composite sync, ground, +5v), and presto, the 32X works on the GN Twin and possibly the Gen-X as well(hopefully). I'd do that when I get a Gen-X if it's confirmed working with Virtua Racing(this game didn't even work on Majesco's Genesis 3, which is officially licensed hardware. Looks like Majesco cut corners while Yobo and whoever makes the Gen-X went all-out, leaving out only support for add-ons). By the way, is there a video encoder on this thing? Something like the Sony CXA1145/CXA1645 and the like or some other type of video encoder? Or is it integrated in the TecToy chip?

FC Twin exchange for Retro Duo-Good or bad idea?
Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Does yours have a Yobo jewel on it? If it doesn't, that one has the typical flawed NES audio. Post a picture of your FC Twin if you can(if you even own one). If, behind the NES cartridge slot, it says FC Twin, you've got the crappy early model. -
It will. There's an integrated region switch on the back of the console.

FC Twin exchange for Retro Duo-Good or bad idea?
Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
As long as the games aren't buchered, especially audio-wise(hint hint-Gradius on an early-model FC Twin), I'm good. I want to collect anything and everything I can get my hands on, clone or real. I've come across several clones, but passed them since I have not found certain original hardware(Top-loader NES, Genesis Model 3(which works WORSE than a clone, believe it or not. Want proof? Take a look here: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=...asc&start=0. 1st post, Virtua Racing running on the newly-released Yobo GN Twin), Turbo Duo, Master System II, Saturn) and find that they're sold at prices that are too high. Examples: Yobo FC Game Console(which I honestly believe the build quality is the worst of any console I've ever seen): $40 FC Twin(these seem to have disappeared, as I don't see them for sale anymore): $80 Retro Duo: $80 With 2-in-1 consoles going for $80, could the Gen-X/GN Twin cost the same when they arrive in Canada? I have yet to come across either system. -
You wanna know something I find freaky on the GN Twin? Take a look here, last post 2nd to last picture: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=...asc&start=0. It looks like TecToy supplied the chip for the Genesis board! Damn! And it works better than a Genesis 3. Virtua Racing works, take a look at the first post.

What do you think that was the biggest loss?
Ace_1 replied to AtticGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
AMEN to that! Damn right, Sega should get back to making consoles! -
Retro Duos have appeared in my area, and now that I've seen them and know they have better compatibility than Yobo's FC Twin(as well as having stock S-Video), I was wondering whether or not I should exchange my FC Twin for the Retro Duo. They're normally sold $80, but was offered $40 if I were to exchange the FC Twin. Now, should I do this? I have some games that don't work on the FC Twin, so it'd be nice to just play anything and everything I own for the NES and Super NES on the same console without having to alternate between original Nintendo hardware and this. Two things I'd really like to know, though: 1- I modified my FC Twin with S-Video, but have not drilled a hole in the casing to mount the jack permanently. Should I remove it? 2- Even though the FC Twin has near-perfect NES audio, some games don't sound right because the FC Twin's audio(square channels) doesn't seem to crackle like on an original NES(play Rad Racer(the original) on a NES and then play it on an FC Twin and you'll know what I mean, or better yet, get the PlayChoice-10 version in MAME and play the original NES cartridge or the game on a NES emulator). Does the Retro Duo's sound fit in the description of the FC Twin or original Nintendo hardware? Good or bad idea?

Did I get ripped off? Yup, I gotta ask it again, as I now got: 3 Atari 2600s(2 Light Sixers, 1 dying and a working Junior), no hookups or anything fancy), $15 -
just bought a sega genesis 3 and others
Ace_1 replied to classicgamer24's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, you can really thank me now. Here's the link to region-modding the Genesis 3 and a whole lot of other Genesis systems: http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/gen2import.htm The Genesis 3 instructions are after those for the Pioneer LaserActive. -
I don't know why, but every time I plug in a set of Paddle controllers in my Flashback 2 to play Super Breakout, one paddle works fine, but the other one's spinner doesn't respond, just the button. The problem does NOT come from the controllers, as I have tested the set on my Vader 2600 and they work fine. Why is it doing this? Is the controller port loose of the board or something?

You will still need to add region switches since some Mega Drive and Genesis games have a region lock on them(mostly the later games). Shouldn't be too hard, though. I don't have a link to it, but I'll put it up when I find it. -

Beats me. On top of that, you guys have to deal with the crap that is 50Hz on these classic systems. Trust me, I know what it's like. I've operated my Genesis 2 in 50Hz, and let me tell you, it SUCKS. -

Where exactly in the US is this guy based in? EDIT: Never mind, I found his website. He also has a Sega Saturn for $35. I can probably get it from him. Or maybe not. I'll be going to the flea market where I bought my NES Advantage, found some cool stuff there(maybe not for you guys. The "cool", or as I call it "rare" as I haven't seen 'em, stuff are really just 2 Famiclones, a SuperJoy III and some weird clone that looks like it's been put into a computer tower(was offered $25 for the system with 2 controllers, console has an integrated power cord, don't need A/V cables). -

Come live in the U.K or Ireland, then you will get ripped off I think the Atari Flashback deal is good! Thank God I don't! It's all right in Canada, so I'll get my stuff from there or Plattsburgh(1 hour or so drive). Now, I know the first Flashback is what I like to call a "Famiclone in disguise", so some stuff will not be accurate, but I can live with them, especially since I don't have an orginal Atari 2600 or Atari 7800 to compare... -

Time for me to ask "Did I get ripped off" again. The product: Atari Flashback(the original, I know this was on my "maybe" list, but ended up getting it anyways) Bought this yesterday at EB Games(GameStop in the US) for $20 brand new. -
