just bought a sega genesis 3 and others
Ace_1 replied to classicgamer24's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If only someone can point me to modify the Genesis 3 to work with Virtua Racing. Someone managed to make the Genesis version run on the Genesis 3, although I can't find a guide anywhere showing how to perform the mod. But then I'd need to region mod the system, as the copy of Virtua Racing I'm getting is a Japanese Mega Drive one. Should be a lot less risky(and easier) than the Model 2 region mod. -
What's the most I should pay for these systems?

Can you take it back? Hell, no, I ain't doing that! This is the only Sega CD I have seen in Montreal and I'm not about to take it back. Come to think of it, the system's actual price was $160, but add in $20 in taxes, comes out to $180. That's the problem with buying classic consoles here. I guess I need to spend a day in Plattsburgh to chase down the systems I'm looking for. And, maybe to get some cash back, I mod the Genesis with region switches, an overclock and S-Video if it doesn't have the crappy Samsung KA2195D video encoder. I'd need to inspect the board. Or, maybe, since I already have 2 Model 2s I modded with S-Video, I mod them both with region switches and overclock the Motorola 68000(the smaller one, which I don't know how to overclock). I'd sell it with 2 3-button controllers, a custom-made A/V cable, power supply and S-Video cable. How much would that go for? As for Master System RGB, I'm fully aware that it has that capability, although I can't use it because I don't have any TVs with SCART or similar inputs. Maximum my TVs can do is Component, but since no classic consoles I own can do Component, I'd need to stick with S-Video, but I'm fine with that. Sure beats the crappy Composite picture on some systems(hint hint, Genesis 2). Wonder how the Composite output looks like on a Model 3 Genesis. @Corey- If you have a Sega 32X for cheap($15-$30), I'd gladly take it(it must have a crossover cable for hooking it up to a Model 1 and a power supply). A TurboDuo would do good too($70). But I'd need to permanently region mod the system to make it accept Japanese HU-Cards, as all my HU-Card games I'll buy are Japanese. How do you make a permanent region mod to turn the TurboDuo into a PC Engine Duo(HU-Card port-wise)? -

Already do have a Model 1 Master System. Buying the Master System II isn't a problem for me. And FYI, the French Master System II outputs A/V and RGB, and that's the one I'm looking for. Just to make the system output in 60Hz. Well, what can I say about the Sega CD? Seemed like a good deal to me(hey, I was ready to spend $200 on a PC Engine Duo-R a while back), especially since there was already a Genesis in there. Had it just been the Sega CD, I'd have passed, but this was the first Sega CD I have ever seen in my area, so I couldn't miss out on it. Sega CDs are ULTRA rare where I live, and the 32X seems even worse. I have never seen one, just like I have never seen a Master System II, Top-loader NES, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Genesis 3 or any NEC systems. I've suspended console chases after spending the $180 on my boxed Genesis/Sega CD combo. -

Yes. It was the last model released by Majesco in 1997. I don't know exactly which year the Genesis stopped being produced, but I know for a fact that since the Genesis 3 was released so late in the Genesis' life, there weren't too many produced. -

Damn you(directed towards boxed Genesis 3)! Nice find. Too bad I can't get one for that price(or any Genesis 3 for that matter). -

All right, did I get ripped off today? I just bought a console on my list: The Sega CD I paid $180 for it. It came in its original box(!) with all hookups and a Model 2 Genesis, which also came with all its hookups(but had an RF unit... yuck!). -
I love the Super NES and Nintendo 64 StarFox games, although I still need to get a Stunt Race FX cartridge and an EPROM writer to put StarFox 2 on cartridge.

Here's how much I find them for shipped on eBay: Normally find these for $70-80 shipped. I've seen some with a Genesis for around $70-80 shipped. Only find broken ones for about $30(yuck!). Normally, I find them for $60. Never saw those. At least $90 PC Engine and TurboGrafx 16 CD combos go for about $300, $200 for a PC Engine Duo-R and over $600 for a Turbo Duo(that's nuts). I don't really look at these, but I can get them for $5(every model) Over $100(one of them doesn't even have hookups!). $97 for this. Around $60 for the original(no hookups, but don't need 'em), $170 for A/V version with 16 games. $130 with box for normal model or $48 with no hookups. As for the Jr., I've rarely seen these, and when I do, they go for over $150 with box. This is going to be costly if I go the eBay route. Might as well try to find whatever came to North America(Genesis 3, Saturn, Master System II(throw the RF unit in the garbage and replace it by an 8-pin DIN female plug like the original model), Sega 32X, Sega CD, TurboGrafx/TurboDuo, Top-loader NES and all Atari systems mentioned). @Nathan: Please! I've never found a Top-loader NES since I've started looking for one in 2003. I also have some games for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM, Sega CD and Sega 32X, but no system to play them on. -

Damn, $25 for a Top-loader NES??? I find them above $90 shipped on eBay! And around $60 for a Sega Genesis 3(never found one in my area, Montreal, Quebec in Canada). As for the 2600, there's a friend of mine who owns a pawn shop who can give me 2600s(the Light Sixer and Junior) for about $10(this is with a power supply and nothing else. I already have the 2 controllers from the Atari Flashback 2 which will do the trick). Since you said, "Don't get ripped off", it makes me wonder if I was actually ripped off when I bought my SNES Mini(paid $45 for it with hookups and 1 controller). All the prices I put up is in Canadian dollars, FYI. -
I was wondering what should be the most I should pay for the following consoles: Sega Saturn Sega 32X Sega CD(either model) Sega Genesis 3 Sega Master System II(preferably a European version, since that one doesn't use RF) Top-loader NES PC Engine with CD-ROM unit and Super System Card or PC Engine Duo(normal, -R or -RX) or Turbo Duo or TurboGrafx 16 with Turbo CD and Super System Card Atari 2600(all models) Atari 5200(2-port model) Atari 7800 Family Computer(both models) Super Famicom(normal and Junior)

Serious Sega Genesis issue-WHAT DID I DO?!
Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ignore my inquiry for my dead Model 1, I just got another one with no "Produced by or under license from Sega Enterprises Ltd." screen when turning on the console(Sweet!). Now, how do I region-mod a Model 2 as indicated in the previous post? -

So while I'm going to hunt down another Model 1, can someone explain to me how to region mod a Model 2 with the 315-xxxx chip labeled 315-5700? -

Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I already have a Model 2, that's why I said that. Anyways, I can't believe I fried it. I had already done S-Video on my Model 1, but the image sucked, so I had to undo it. Now that I've gone back to do it, I get no more video, only audio through my TV speakers and headphones. Heh, who knows, this could be my cue to get a Genesis Model 3. -
I've been adding S-Video today to my Model 1 Sega Genesis and now, I GET NO MORE VIDEO!. Not through S-Video, not through Composite AND NOT EVEN THROUGH RF! What the hell did I screw up? I'm only getting audio from the system. Is the CXA1145 shot? What chip produces the graphics on the Genesis? My motherboard has the big Motorola 68000 and the EXT port removed, but with the solder points still there. I NEED TO GET THIS SYSTEM WORKING AGAIN! Otherwise, I need to hunt down another Model 1(not very easy to find in my area, where Model 2s are everywhere).

Can you give an approximation as to how many layers of electric tape to put on? On a side note, I got a Super Advantage recently, and noticed that this works BETTER than the NES Advantage(and I thought it was made cheaper than the NES Advantage, at least, that's what Wikipedia was saying about it)! Normal?
-
I can still do diagonal movement though, it's just that I can't push the stick too far, otherwise diagonal movement won't respond unless I apply full force to the stick. Something I noticed, though, is that the stick seems to lift off the pads when it's pushed to the max, so I don't know if that could cause a problem.
-
Not needed, but thanks for the offer. Diagonal movement is a lot easier now, but I'd need a tutorial on how to properly use this damn controller. Diagonal movement is near-impossible when moving the stick to the edge of the area where it's housed. I need to move the stick halfway for proper diagonal movement.
-
Easy to take apart? You gotta be kidding me! I spent ten minutes trying to pry the damn thing open. Are there only 2 screws to remove, or are there other hidden ones someplace else?
-
Yup, it's me again. Another controller problem this time with the NES Advantage, which I got yesterday. I'm having a problem with diagonal movement. I don't know if this is something normal with the NES Advantage or if mine's damaged or dirty, but for some reason, up, down, left and right works, but if I want to do diagonal movement, I need to practically force on the stick to get any movement(very bad for me, since I play LOTS of shoot-em-ups). Did the NES Advantage have any defect of some sort? Did dirt build up in mine? Is the stick broken?

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

Got a fully functional SNES Mini today for $45 with hookups. The place is expensive, but considering buying a SNES Mini on eBay costs several bucks more(about 30 or more), it was a good deal in my view. Now, I had already bought a Mini at that place for $5 more and it wasn't working properly(buzzing audio through the speakers when playing a game). I got some luck for once with SNES stuff. That same place sells FC Twins for $90 with a sealed-in-box SNES game(I got F-Zero with mine). All prices in Canadian $, by the way. -
The Ugliest Looking Game System Ever!
Ace_1 replied to fdurso224's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For me, it definitely has to be the original-model Sega Master System. Ugh, what an ugly piece of $#@%, looks like a friggin brick next to my other game systems, no styling, very boxy, hell, even the front-loader NES looks better than this. Yuck, man. -
Dude, I SO want to do that to my Model 2 Genesis! Nicely done. Although, I'd rather make a custom Neptune casing out of liquid resin than keep it in a Genesis 2 casing. By the way, would a DC 9V 1800mA power supply work to power both the Genesis and the 32X? That's the closest I can find to DC 9V 2000mA.

Is the Genesis 2 supposed to have crappy video?
Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Agreed, my Genesis3 looks fantastic with s-video. It would have been worth several times the effort needed. I hate to use composite if I play with the 32X now. Aye, I second to that. Wanna trade your Genesis 3? Just kidding. On a more serious note, is there a way to actually get the 32X to display in S-Video? -

Ace_1 replied to Ace_1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, I can't do that because none of my TVs have RGB inputs, so I'm stuck with S-Video(looks good anyways). -
Forget that, I'd like to see the motherboard in this thing. I want one that can play Master System and Genesis without the Power Base Converter, dammit(also throw in the Sega CD and Sega 32X, I'm looking for those units)! I'd like to see it shaped like a Genesis 3, but with a cartridge connector whose edge pins can be moved over to fit in a Master System cartridge and pushed back to fit a Genesis cartridge.
