  1. I actually had more credit but I pre-ordered Gears of War and will probably use more for Guitar Hero II. I think having that credit is what is really upsetting me the most. This summer I began trading in all the games and systems that I was not playing. I started with my PSP & a $20 extra trade-in credit coupon I got in Game Informer. Then over the rest of the summer and early fall I took advantage of the trade in three and get an extra $10 deal GS was running. I cleared out tons of stuff, all with an eye on getting a Wii, accessories, and games without spending any real cash. Everytime I would trade stuff in I would resist the temptation to get other games. I hate sitting on that credit and not being able to use it for what it was originally intended. I never thought the Nintendo launch would turn into a circus at EB/GS. I thought it would be like the Gamecube launch. I did pre-order the GC, but I didn't have to stand in line or take the day off of work to do it. I'm just sickened by the whole thing.
  2. It's all about getting as many systems they can out the door ASAP. It also artificailly creates demand, which allows them to sell systems at a premium price. Its all about simple economics and marketing My problem with Nintendo is that they could have just ridden out on the hype of the PS3. Can't get a PS3 get a Wii, instead. If Nintendo really has the amount of systems they say they have, they could have secured plenty of sales right now with the pre-order process. My problem with TRU is that they potentially lost my sale and the sales of many of the people who were behind me in line. If they knew they were getting a boatload of the systems (which the manager who came out to talk to everyone hinted at), they should have secured their sales by preordering more than a small fraction of their alloted systems. Bestbuy, Walmart, or Target will probably get my sale now instead of TRU (the offical Nintendo Wii launch partner). I understand creating demand, but I don't see how TRU was helping their business by limiting the number of pre-orders they took. Anyway, I'm just generally pissy about the whole thing, because I just want to be able to walk into a store and buy one without the hassle and lies. I remember preordering a PSP from Gamestop, and they said you wouldn't be able to walk into a store and get one for months after launch. After picking my preorder up from GS, I walked into my Best Buy and tripped over PSPs.
  3. I'm tired of all this pre-order/shortage BS! I'm bitter because I have $500 in credit at Gamestop that I wanted to use to buy the Nintendo system and now I can't because I refused to take a day off of work to stand in line for a pre-order. This is going to become the new standard practice for system launches, standing in line for a pre-order. That means you get to stand in line for something that even if you get, you don't actually GET at that time. It's crazy. I stood in line at my local TRU to try and get a Wii and I missed out there too. They only had 15 systems. As far as Nintendo goes, I think they are getting retailers to feed the hype by only offering limited pre-orders. Why can't a company just make enough systems to cover the launch demand. That would mean getting your shit in order before you set a launch date. Whatever! I agree that bundles are a ripoff. But I can't even seem to pre-order a bundle at this point. Missed out on the Walmart thing too.
  4. I just got back from my Target and they didn't have anything out yet, but they did have shelf space reserved for the Wii with a sign about stuff coming soon. No mention or shelf space reserved for the PS3 though.
  5. I think you are right on the money with that observation! That is exactly why I've always loved Adventure.
  6. Anybody know 1) What kind of AV cables will come with it? 2) Do you have to use wireless or can you just plug it into your home network? (Right now the Netgear wireless router that I have is not compatable with my DS, so I'm a tad worried about that)
  7. I just put Meteos up on Ebay -- Meteos Ebay Link. I also will take $7 + shipping for Thief is anyone is interested. Thanks for looking.
  8. I have a mint complete copy of Meteos I posted on AA for sale a day or two ago: LINK
  9. Here are two games that are practically new. I Played Thief for about 10 minutes and Meteos for about 5. I don't like either one. They are in great shape. I can take Paypal or money order payments. Shipping method is up to the buyer. I can ship Priority for $4.05. First class will probably be less. PM with questions. METEOS for DS $15 + shipping THIEF for XBOX (can also be played on Xbox 360) $10 + shipping
  10. With regards to Apshai... isn't it a trilogy? Temple of Apshai and Treasure of Apshai I believe were the other two... would like to finally play those 2. I would like to see Temple of Apshai. I loved that game on my Apple II clone. There was Temple of Apshai, Upper Reaches of Apshai, and Curse of Ra. There was also Hellfire Warrior. I think these would be great on the DS. I never got to play Upper Reaches, Curse of Ra or Hellfire Warrior.
  11. I've heard that the early Samsung DLPs had big time problems. The newer models have a game mone. I was hoping the Ign article would have had a list. I don't know what to do when the Revolution comes out: put it on my big screen TV or just hook it up to my 27".
  12. I posted a question about video game lag issues and which DLP TV would be the best around the end of April and the beginning of May, and I didn't get any replies. I ended up getting a 50" Sony SXRD for my basement. I have a 360 hooked up to it and I haven't noticed any lag issues. It looks really good on the screen too! I'm very happy with it. However, I did not hook up my other systems to it (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, etc). Those are still hooked up to my 27" Sony CRT.
  13. It depends on the television (you have a fantastic one btw.) On my SP5000 720p LCD projector I find the component connection to be of better quality then the VGA connection. It also has a DVI connection and, while I have not plugged the 360 into it, I believe the DVI provides a superior picture (based on the image produced by a Mac plugged into it.) But, the difference is small all the way around. When the picture is 80" you notice things you wouldn't notice otherwise and even then the difference was very small. I don't think you are going to notice much difference between the VGA and component connections. If it were a choice between component and HDMI I think the choice would be obvious. Thanks for the advice. I'll probably just save a couple of bucks and stick with the component cables for now. I keep hearing that the VGA connection's picture tends to be washed out a bit. As far as games go -- I'm having a blast just downloading demos and stuff for the 360. I really like Lost Planet. I've actually just completed GUN on my original XBOX on Sunday. I would have bought the 360 version but I didn't have a 360 when I got GUN from Circuit City for $8.95. I actually enjoyed the game. Last night I finally got Guitar Hero so I've been playing that as well.
  14. I read the interview and really enjoyed it. Nice work on both the interview and the site! Keep up the good work.
  15. Interesting article. Some of you may differ over some of the details but an overall thought-provoking read: How the Console 'Failures' Finally Won
  16. Here's a question for you Xbox 360 guys: I have a Sony 50" Grand WEGA SXRD that I have my Xbox 360 hooked up to via the component cables. I have to say the picture looks great. My TV also has a VGA port. Do you think it would be better to use VGA cables over the component? I'd be interested in your opinions. Thanks!
  17. Yeah, I saw that after I actually ordered the premium system. I picked up the system because it seemed like a good deal, but I have to say there are really no 360 games that I just have to have. I stood in EBgames the other day and game out with nothing. I bought two extra wireless controllers for $73 and the Ghost Recon 360 game for $35 at Sam's club. I'm happy with that for now and I felt those were pretty good deals. My goal is to rarely pay $60 or $70 for a game. I've actually been playing that Lost Planet demo I downloaded. I wish that was out now.
  18. I saw this on Cheap Ass Gamer and I actually ordered one about 20 minutes ago. Xbox 360 Premium Console $360 Shipped After Coupon at Overstock. Thought I'd pass it on.
  19. Looks neat! Any 2600 games you know of that are incompatable?
  20. My DS gets a lot more attention from me and my wife than my PSP ever did. Last week I decided to get rid of the PSP. I thought about selling it online through Ebay but I got a coupon in the last issue of Game Informer for $20 extra dollars on a trade in. I traded in my PSP w/Lumines & NFL Street for $170 in credit at Gamestop. I thought that was an excellent deal. That was close to what I would have got on Ebay and I could use the trade toward an Xbox 360 or a DS lite. I say trade or sell the damn thing before it becomes worthless. I still haven't used the trade credit yet, but soon.
  21. I've certainly noticed it, and I'm not so sure it's just because of the summer months. The going rates seem super low to me. The summer months may have a little to do with it, but I just auctioned off a bunch of video game stuff and I think I got pretty good prices for most of it. The only thing that didn't meet or exceed my expectations was the Colecovision/Adam system with composite AV & 15 games. It only went for $30. I'm certainly holding onto my 7800s for the time being.
  22. Thanks for bidding. Your items should be going out on or before Monday.
  23. The auctions that I started this thread with end within 18 hours or so. I added a few more auctions last night. They are not all video game related but they are in the ball park -- Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for GBA 3 D&D books 70s Music Explosion 10 CD Collection (that's right, the one with the Greg Brady infomercial) Heavy-Sixer Ebay Auctions Thanks for looking!!
  24. Good point! I've actually been feeling that way lately too.
