Updating list to show items that have been sold and have added some prices for a few things (but, still feel free to make offers!) I like to give quantity discounts, so the more you want, the more you'll save --- Hi everyone. I've decided to pare down my collection a little bit and have a *ton* of stuff for sale/trade. You guys get the first pick before it all goes up on eBay! If you're interested in anything or have any questions, feel free to send me a PM. I'll sell or trade, so make me an offer if you want to buy stuff or drop me a trade list. I'm looking for a few rare 2600, 5200, Coleco, Intellivision, Odyssey (not O2), and Virtual Boy things. Okay, that clarifies things. I was pretty certain the people doing Vectrex development in the 1980's wouldn't have been using a BP-1200. BTW, are the "ROM" chips actually ROMs and not OTPs? I've not read enough of your other posts to know if you'd know the difference. They are real masked ROMs. They actually match the ones in the production counterparts (except for the two with EPROM, obviously). Joe
-
I do have a few of them for sale/trade, so PM me if you're interested Joe
-
The BP-1200 is my device programmer and you can see the Vectrex PCB hanging off of the clip/adapter I made for it. That's how I dumped all the cartridges Joe

I picked up a lot of Vectrex carts from an eBay auction a few weeks ago mostly because I wanted to fill out my Vectrex collection and the few carts with type-written labels looked interesting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=160146823389 I e-mailed the seller to ask if he made those himself and he said he got them that way. The auction was also in Northern California and I thought the Vectrex was developed around here (I could be wrong). As soon as I got them, I quickly opened them all up and noticed some physical differences, though most of the carts were ROMs except for two (Space Wars and Star Hawk) that were 2532 EPROMs with hand-written labels over the window (dated 6-4-82). I dumped both the ROM and EPROM carts and they all match with the production versions (except for the EPROM versions that had 0x00 as the last byte instead of 0xFF or vice versa compared to production - all other bytes are exactly the same). Based on my experience with product development/manufacturing, I'm guessing they're pre-production versions for a few reasons: 1) The cartridge cases are slightly different than the production cases. There is no injection molding release mark on the back as in the production versions, the bezel around the label is slightly different, and the plastic that holds the cartridge in place on the inside has been manually modified. That tells me that these cases are prototypes, as well. 2) Most of the cartridge PCBs themselves seem to be an earlier version (smooth edges versus panelized PCBs in the production carts). 3) None of the prototype cartridge PCBs have a QA sticker on them. 4) The ROMs and EPROMs are hand-soldered. It's too bad that the dumps are the same, but still a neat find, I think. I've posted a few pics. By the way, I have a few doubles for trade (Armor Attack, Berzerk, Ripoff, Star Trek), so PM me if you're interested. Joe

I just spent the afternoon putting up a whole new lot of stuff on eBay: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjoesm00th Have a few single Vectrex carts (Fortress of Narzod, Clean Sweep, Starhawk, Bedlam), Odyssey 2 carts (Imagic Atlantis, Imagic Demon Attack, Turtles!), a larger set of 22 O2 games, a lot of Atari 2600 commons, a Channel F system with 11 games, and lots of other random electronics/computer/misc. stuff. I'm slowly paring down my collection to something a little more manageable (probably focusing mostly on the Atari 2600/8-bit/ST), so I'll have lots of stuff for trade/auction in the next few months. Thanks for looking! Joe
-
This stuff is fantastic! I'll take one of each Joe

I'll be there. I'm actually going to be in Las Vegas for business for 10 days and CGE happens to fall right in the middle! So, I'll only be around for an hour or two on Saturday (since I'm teaching that day and can only get away for the lunch break), but hope to see some people I recognize there. Joe

Hello! I'm doing some spring cleaning and came across a few custom Atari ICs that hopefully someone is interested in: C101629-001 ST / Mega U.S. TOS 1.2 1 MEG (HI) ROM (I have 2 of these) 1987 C101630-001 ST / Mega U.S. TOS 1.2 1 MEG (LO) ROM 1987 C302096-001A (Ajax High Density Disk Controller) 1990 Send me a PM if you're interested and either an offer or a copy of your trade list Thanks! Version 1.2 works great on my MacBook Pro (Intel) using an FTDI-based USB-to-serial adapter (the FTDI US232B) with their latest 2.2.7 drivers (available from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm). I'm also using the Atarimax Universal SIO2PC adapter (http://www.atarimax.com/sio2pc/documentation). I set my Sio2OSX preferences as follows: Maximum SIO Speed: 57600 SIO Hardware Type: DSR Delay Factor: 1 Just sent in the registration money! Ooohhhh, I am SO PSYCHED!!! Joe
-
Absolutely awesome. Thanks for all your work! Perfect timing, too. Albert convinced me to buy a MacBook Pro in August and I just picked up an SIO2PC interface from Atarimax. I'm trying to avoid using Parallels for PC stuff, especially if I can find equal or better apps native in OS X. Atari800MacX and Sio2OSX seem to fit the bill Looks like the correct link is: http://www.atarimac.com/Sio2OSX.html I still get a 404 with the link above. Joe

I just found out that I'll be stopping by VGXPO on Sunday morning from around 9am to 1pm! I'll be in NJ for a wedding and luckily the Valley Forge Convention Center isn't too far away. So, I'll see you guys there! I'll be wandering around and helping at the AA booth. This has nothing to do with the thread, but I can tell you what I did at the *last* VGXPO! Joe

eBay decided to cancel my Might & Magic auction because I include a back-up copy of the game on another set of floppy disks. Of course, this isn't illegal, but I guess eBay's automatic spiders don't care. So, I've relisted it here: Might and Magic Book One New World Computing Apple Game http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MESE:IT Joe

Phantasmal Alchemy BBS ATASCII Intro Screens
joesmooth replied to Albert's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Holy crap - that brings back some memories Joe -
Actually, there were multiple gameplay changes (though some are subtle) from SCSIcide to Ultra SCSIcide, which I think improves the game significantly and take care of some problems that I just couldn't fix when I first wrote the game. From http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html...reLabelID=2704: # Added support for joystick controllers. Controller type is automatically detected when you press the paddle or joystick fire button to start the game. # Fixed the flicker that used to occur at the beginning of each level. # Changed background and data bit color palette to make bits easier to distinguish. # Reduced track size from 10 to 8 bits, for a more appropriate one byte per level. # Changed speed increase per level - only two random data bits increase in speed each level. # Modified the sound and scoring routines to account for longer gameplay and higher levels. # Changed title screen text and added GIS and Pixels Past logos. # Added a PAL version of the game. Also, in reference to your previous post, I think you meant to say you picked up SCSIcide at AGE in 2003, not 1993. I didn't start experimenting with Atari 2600 until 1997 and the original SCSIcide wasn't sold until CGE in Las Vegas in 2001. Joe
-
I'm not sure how to interpret that, but if you're saying it sucks, I challenge you to write your own game. I originally wrote the game in 2001 and updated it in 2005. Not only has it been extremely well received, but I've release source code and a diary documenting my development process to help the community. Programming for the Atari 2600 is no easy task, especially with the tools we had (though much better than the tools that the original programmers had). So, either enjoy the game or go spend time working on your own. Don't bash mine. Joe

I would say that the trip all the way from San Diego was well worth it - I had a lot of fun seeing everyone (particularly Albert, Smitty, Patty, Anna, Shaun, and Mike - all of who had to put up with me for the weekend - and of course the other staples like Cassidy, Nicole, Joe and Zlatka Cody, Lenny, Alan Hewston, etc.), trading games, and just hanging out. The Videotopia arcade exhibit was awesome. I didn't have time to play many, but saw some arcade games I haven't seen before (like Atari Dominos). I think the NBC "Con$umer Expo" portion of the show may have hampered the interest in some of the classic gaming community who longed for the smaller, more intimate PhillyClassic style (I was a little skeptical at first, too) and those who saw the numerous threads on the lack of promotion of the show, etc. but I do think that it drew some traffic to the area by people who might not have known that people like us are still interested in gaming. All in all, I think the show would do much better by getting away from any NBC "sponsorship" or "help" and creating a standalone gaming show. However, to grow the show from a local gaming meeting (as it basically is now) to something larger, the organizers should think about how to handle out-of-town attendees (like me and Osmeroid Some thoughts: 1) Venue should be much closer to a major airport. The round trip shuttle cost me $44 (not including tips) and an extra 2 hours of time. 2) Hotel(s) should be much closer to (no longer than 5 minute walk) or inside the venue. A free shuttle from the hotel to venue would also be suitable. When not bumming a ride from Albert or Mike, I had to enjoy the long (1.7 mile, 26 minute) walk to the convention center from the Best Western. The walk actually caused me to miss the Gamers Roundtable Panel Discussion that I was supposed to participate in on Sunday. Whoops! 3) If neither 1 nor 2 can be met, then out-of-town attendees should be notified of this early on and a list of recommended car rental places should be on the website. Convenience is everything when trying to attract people to a convention and most people won't go out of their way to handle confusing logistics of getting to a show. 4) Microphone setup on the stage is not ideal. It was hard to generally hear the speakers since the stage was in the main conference hall. Also, no wireless microphone was available for the panel discussions, so each speaker had to walk up and go to the main microphone. I still had a great time and don't regret any of it. But, now it's all over and back to the real world! Until next time, Joe

I ended up with: * Glib * Miner 2049'er Vol. II * Bogey Blaster * Philly Flasher/Cathouse Blues * Atari Signal Tracing Cart * Meteorites (5200) ...and a few more things that I can't think of at the moment. Overall, I spent more money than I should have, which is the sign of a good show Joe
-
Just arrived at the Ft. Washington Best Western. Been traveling all day from San Diego. The funny thing is the shuttle driver (from Tropiano Shuttle) is the same one I had 3 or 4 years ago when I flew in for Phillyclassic. Doesn't feel like that long ago Joe

It's not too late Joe

Hey everyone. I'm planning to bring most of this stuff to the VGXPO in Philly in 2 weeks, but wanted to post my trade list here in case someone wanted anything before I left. I'm more interested in trading, but my wants list is pretty slim (mostly the rare 2600 and Coleco stuff and any odd memorabilia - Activision patches, etc.), so I'll take cash if necessary. Just PM me with your trade list, offer, etc. Have fun, Joe Miscellaneous games/collectibles: * UNIVAC tape reel (circa 1960) * Berzerk board game (Milton Bradley, complete in box, never used) * Q*bert collectible character (new on card) * Activision "Sky Stars" patch * Weird World 2 (C-64/128 homebrew, autographed, www.oldergames.com) * Popeye Game & Watch Atari 8-bit: * Atari 810 Diagnostic Cartridge FD10006 * Qix Atari 2600: * Stellar Track (complete in box) * Cosmic Swarm (ratty label) Colecovision: * Memory Manor * Sector Alpha * Flipper Slipper * Oil's Well * Mr. Do's Castle * Gust Buster * Wing War * Super Cross Force * Threshold * Campaign '84
