Subterranea is one of the best on the 2600, but correct: no one seems to know about its existence... I always had a soft Spot for Pac-Man. In Germany only adults could enter Arcades and you could hardly find any Arcade Cabinets outside of those, so we all thought that the 2600-Pac-Man is the real Pac-Man. If you don't compare it to the Original, I think, it's quite good... Another Game, that's said to be really bad and that I like is Condor Attack. It's technically "sub-par" but gives simple and fast shooting fun - at least for me!

How old were you when you played your first Atari 2600 game?

I got mine, a Darth Vader-Model, for Christmas 1982 (was seven Years old then). It came with Pac-Man. I'm still glad that my Mom bought it although it was not on my Wishlist; in fact, I didn't know that the Console existed until I got one . Seems a lot of People in Germany started in that Year '82, `cause the Console wasn't released here as early as in the States. Often you bought your Stuff through Mailorder-Catalogues like Quelle, Neckermann or Otto: I was always happy when a new Catalogue arrived to see new Games for "my" Console (but was as often disappointed when looking at the Prices ..): A new Game costed about 130 DM - about 65 Dollars, I think. Later, when the 2600 wasn't the hot Stuff anymore - at least in the Eyes of most Customers - you could get original Games for about 40 DM as silver or red Labels (must have been around '84-'88). In Germany, you could often find the (in)famous Clones of those Mailorders Dealers as a cheaper Alternative: those were e.g. 20 DM for the Quelle-Version of Enduro (Super-Ferrari), but most of the Times these were no clones of the "Hit-Games"... -
Sorry , maybe "modernized" is not the right term! I mean, "enhancing" the Gameplay-Experience. In my Opinion, Spiceware's Versions play even better than the old Classics!
-
Great Effort (as always) from you! I like how you keep the Gameplay-Spirit of the old Games alive and give them a slight "Modernization". Really looking forward to play the full Version!!! (I guess with the Engine for this Game, there would be also the Possibility of a great Port of Sinistar (with a more forgiving Difficulty-Level). ) By the Way, you should put "Frantic" on your Signature - really no Game to be ashamed of... The "Crazy Otto" reminds me a lot of the mascot of the Band Disturbed

Here in Germany the Flashback (except for the first one) are hard to get and if, then very expensive! But even if they come across the Ocean in good Numbers and a reasonable Price I probably wouldn't buy one, because there's no SD-Card-Slot in it. I was hoping for such a Model, but am quite disappointed now. The ATGames-Handhelds have SD-Card-Slots, why not the Consoles for the TV? Can't be a Copyright-Issue, 'cause then the Handhelds wouldn't have a Slot either, would they?

If I deactivate VSync in the Direct3D-Mode, it works fullspeed, too. The Software-Mode stays slow. Drivers are the most actual for the System! I can live with that; OpenGL is my Favourite though.
-
Just a short notice: when using Direct3D or Software as rendering Method, the Games become unplayable slow on my System (about half of the correct Speed). Using OpenGL doesn't produce that Error. (Win7 Home Premium, Intel onboard Graphics GMA950, Intel Atom SingleCore 230 1,6Ghz, 2GB RAM ) Haven't tried it on other Systems so far... Apart from that: Thanks to Stephen for his awesome Work!!!!

retro GAMER auf deutsch
Hoessi666 replied to Eckhard Stolberg's topic in Gaming Publications and Websites
If it´s still interesting: I play my Games with the newest Version of Stella 3.7.2 and TV-Effects enabled on an Intel Atom 1.6 GHz- Nettop with Intel onboard-Graphics GMA950, 1GB RAM and Win XP SP3. Absolutely perfect at full Speed although the System is not really the strongest!

I would have voted for the "Black Junior"-Version, but as it is not in the List, I took the Darth Vader... and yes I´m totally into BLACK! I think the black Jr is not comparable to the common Jr´s although it just lacks the silver shield... It looks just ... cooler!!!

My List: 01. Millipede 02. Beamrider 03. Asteroids 04. Subterranea 05. Jungle Hunt 06. Chopper Command 07. Spider Fighter 08. Condor Attack 09. Moon Patrol 10. Assault So many great games more that could be added...<sigh>

New Atari Compatible Console & Controllers
Hoessi666 replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I can´t believe that I almost overlooked this one! Hope that it gets real! If a "very well-known" compnay is involved, could we assume that there will be a release in Europe, too? Importing from America is very expensive... And if there will be Homebrews "built-in", may I suggest the following ones: Juno First, Medieval Mayhem, Rainbow Invaders, Lady Bug. -
Hi! My TopTen: 1. Millipede 2. Asteroids 3. Galaxian 4. Chopper Command 5. Spider Fighter 6. Beamrider 7. Jr. Pac-Man 8. Phoenix 9. Condor Attack 10. Warlords Lots of Shooters here, hm? Some other could also go here, but only ten games...
