  1. In the spirit of all the E.T. threads of late, I've composed for you a song. Sorry if it's mostly incomprehensible, but hopefully everyone gets the joke. It can be found here: http://zebox.com/dungeonsofdorks/music/ Enjoy! edit: side note, I think I swore a couple times just out of habit. If that bothers anyone, probably avoid this song.
  2. I'm always looking for more 2600 games, specifically ones that are really good to actually play. Here's a list of my (limited selection of) games, if you guys wouldn't mind telling me what I should have that I don't, or just giving me an idea of what games you happen to like? I have no idea why my typing here seems like it was done by a 10 year old, I guess I'm just tired. Sorry. Adventure Armor Ambush Asteroids Atlantis Barnstorming Berzerk Bowling Carnival Chopper Command Circus Atari Combat Defender Demon Attack Dodge 'Em Donkey Kong E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Freeway Galaxian Haunted House Human Cannonball Joust Jungle Hunt Kaboom! Lock 'N' Chase Math Gran Prix Missile Command Mountain King Outlaw Pac-Man Phoenix Pitfall! Raiders of the Lost Ark Riddle of the Sphinx River Raid Skate Boardin' Spacechase Space Invaders Solar Fox Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Swordquest: Earthworld Swordquest: Fireworld Tanks But No Tanks Warlords Wizard of Wor Yars' Revenge
  3. Yeah, actually, I'd never heard of this game before. I rather like it. Kinda reminds me of Wizard of Wor a little bit. I didn't know what it was until I looked up the word Zimag (I think) on this site. It was the only word in the game I had to go on.
  4. I'm happy because I went and bought a few more games from my local(ish) used game store, and he gave me one of the cartridges that was missing a label for free. Nothing spectacular by you's guys's standards, probably, but it turned out to be Tanks But No Tanks, which is a pretty decent game and the first and only 5 rarity game I own. So, I'm a happy camper. Other games I bought were Atlantis, Dodge 'Em, the Sears version of Defender and Yars' Revenge.
  5. Haha, E.T. IS a crappy game. But it's hilarious to play. I don't find it to be the worst by any stretch, in fact I spent hours playing it in my youth. Part of its charm is its crappiness. Like b-horror flicks.
  6. No it's not! It IS a game after all. Even if you were 5 years old, the game would suck. It's one of the worst edutainment titles I've ever played.
  7. I may have to try some of these terrible games. I don't have that many games, but of what I do have... I'd say Math Gran Prix is the worst. It's just boring. Or possibly Swordquest: Fireworld. The minigames in it drive me insane.
  8. Thanks for the links and comments, guys. Stuff looks cool, I'll try some roms. Sorry I diverted the thread a bit. I've owned a 2600 for years, but I never got into the community at all. If I get on anyone's nerves, just lemme know. Thanks again.
  9. I've never intentionally abused my atari, but I've worn out a whole bunch of controllers and 3 paddles (a set and a half) just by overuse and compulsive clutching/grinding of the controls. Though I DID once rip apart my computer desk and throw it across a room in a fit of rage. The idea of actually hurting the equipment itselt terrifies me.
  10. Can you take a better picture of the cables, and one of the back of your TV?
  11. Brian, I think he knows that, but as far as I know, when you turn on an Atari at the correct channel, you get a black screen, NOT fuzz. The fuzz happens to me when my cord gets bonked at all, but if there's no cartridge in there, black screen, no fuzz.
  12. I haven't played any homebrew games. Are they any good?
  13. Erm... ninety-nine cents. : ( Boy, you guys make me feel lame. Granted, I only collect games to play them... but still.
  14. Huh. I found it. It says A and B. Funny, I've had the thing for almost 20 years and I never noticed that. Hahaha.
  15. I dunno 'bout being wicked, evil people (ah crap, am I gonna start every post with "I dunno"? GAH) but I sort of agree and disagree with a lot of points. I think things do lose their wonder as you get older, but I don't think it's BECAUSE you get older. I think you just become accustomed to things. I think I think I dunno I think? Okay, get outta my way Mr. Indecisive. Basically, as we grow more used to things as they are, the less they seem all that spectacular. Having a microwave, a TV, or a radio seemed like a big deal at one time. However: That doesn't mean they have to lose their glow. Put the games down for a while and then pick them back up. It's not quite the same, but it's as close as you can probably get. Me, I started playing IBM PC Jr and Atari 2600 games back in '89 (I was 5.) So I'm probably not as old as some people here, but I DO remember how great video/computer gaming used to be. Now it's not so much. I love playing older games because they have so much more to offer. Atari games are scary with how much they seem to pay attention to you. I used to have nightmares about Adventure because of that damn reset function that just moved you back to the start. I'd dream I couldn't turn it off even if I unplugged it. And what about the crazy scary predicting your shots crap that Demon Attack does? I'm sure there's a pattern to it, but damn. Erm... FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, MAN. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. - Tom
  16. I dunno, but if I turn on my 2600 with no game in it, it goes to a black screen, not snow. I know very little about the technical details, i.e. I don't know how to change what channel you use? but I use channel 2 and have always done so with my atari on any TV I've ever used it with. I dunno if that's helpful at all.
  17. You should pick up Tape From California by Phil Ochs. Long songs there indeed. Not to mention Phil Ochs is amazing.
