  1. I got this game from my brother for christmas. He grabbed me a few 2600 games that he knew I didn't have, Taz, Street Racer, and Gopher. I like them all, but I have to say Gopher is my favorite of the bunch. It's also the only U.S. Games cartridge I own at the moment, and I like how the label looks, but that's all by-the-by. I dunno, I just really dig the game. I got really into it and sat there playing it for about a half hour just now. I'm not much of a reviewer or anything, so I can't think of anything interesting to say about it, really, other than that it's quite enjoyable thwonking that stupid gopher on the head. The frenzied nature of trying to guard carrots whislt filling in holes and hitting the gopher AND catching seeds is just hilarious to me. So that's about all I've got. I'm very bored. Good game, though.
  2. Yeah, the website really isn't that difficult to maneuver. Ugly? Sure. It's really not hard to get around, unless you're REALLY lazy and/or can't read, I guess?
  3. You're a better man than I, Phantom. Haha. I wouldn't bother with the headache. I'd probably just keep it for myself, if the game was any good. In any event, my point is that you're doing a good thing. Don't let all the stress drive you nuts. If people bug you, just ignore 'em. Or there's always that roadtrip...
  4. Okay, so, I have no idea. I get no connection from the black wire to the end of it (ground). The supposed white (up) wire connects from the plug to the up pad on the board. But it also connects to the orange wire? And it doesn't connect to the wire part, at least I get no reading from the white hole to the white soldered end. Does this make any sense? I assume the ground is broken somewhere and that's my problem, but based on my other findings, I'm very confused. I'm also gonna just give this controller up as dead, as I have no idea how to go about effectively replacing the wire.
  5. Yeah, I have only a couple 5s (though Strategy X could be a 6, depending on who you ask, I guess.)
  6. Let me just say that Joust and Wizard of Wor for the 5200 are excellent. Also Adventure II, but I'd still love my 5200 even if I didn't have it, because Joust is amazing. Though I will someday own a 7800 just for its port of Joust. Heh.
  7. I dunno if they're the same as regular CX-40s or not, but as I don't have that pinout either, I need the one for the fb2 controllers anyway. Mine don't work anymore for no apparent reason, I've used a screwdriver as a contact on the inside and can't get anything to move, so I imagine it must be the wires somewhere. Any help would be great.
  8. Actually, you can see a list on the database. http://www.atariage.com/controller_page.ht...;ControllerID=2 What you do is click 2600, controllers, then click the Atari Paddles link. You get that list there.
  9. C'mon, guys, even I knew that.
  10. Seems like way too much hassle, man. Just don't worry about it, at least not for my sake. I'll just hold on to ye olde GBA for now, I think.
  11. I personally don't care, because I don't intend to sell my games, I just like having labels. Still gotta print my Amidar label. It annoys me a bit, though, because I had to use a box shot for the picture and it's got some text on the ape's arm. Haha.
  12. I wanted to write a little more about my early experience with Atari. Originally, I'd play it at my grandparents' house in Lake Pine, NJ. The games I remember best were E.T., Freeway, Phoenix, Smurfs: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle, and Video Pinball. They had it plugged into an old black & white TV, so I never got to play in color originally. I would play the hell out of those games, when I wasn't playing King's Quest or Space Quest on their old PC. At some point my dad got an Atari, and the only game I remember from it that he used to play all the time was Starmaster. I could never make sense of it, I just knew that you were an X flying around shooting stuff. Later on, that system went kerplooey and my grandparents gave us another one and a bunch of games, which were Adventure, Armor Ambush, Barnstorming, Bowling, Chopper Command, Circus Atari, Combat, Defender, Donkey Kong, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Haunted House, Human Cannonball, Jungle Hunt, Kaboom!, Lock 'N' Chase, Math Gran Prix, Missile Command, Outlaw, Pac-Man, Pitfall!, River Raid, Skate Boardin', Spacechase, Space Invaders, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Swordquest: Earthworld, Swordquest: Fireworld, Warlords, and Wizard of Wor. I still have those games, and a copy of Riddle of the Sphinx that never worked. It was so cool when they opened the store Game Craze in the mall and started selling Atari games for 50 cents. I started collecting there, I grabbed Phoenix, Asteroids, a working copy of Riddle of the Sphinx, and some other stuff on my first few visits there. The rest, as they say, is history. Some of my best early memories are of playing Atari. I'm probably younger than most of you folks here, only 23, but my childhood was filled with this stuff. I love it. I'm glad to still be a part of it.
  13. I had a whole bunch of games when my grandparents gave us our Atari. The first game I ever BOUGHT for Atari was Phoenix. I love that game.
  14. Can you make one for Activision's "Enduro" and Zimag's "Tanks But No Tanks"? I have those without labels.
  15. Ugh. Hey, if it's too much trouble, don't worry about it, man.
  16. Whoo hoo! Tail end worked. I'll be honest... As long as I've played Joust, I have never, ever killed the 'dactyl before. Boy, is that liberating! I was having an anxiety attack, too... and that just cured it. HA!
  17. I know you can in most versions, but I haven't attempted it in the 5200 version, so I'm wondering if anybody else can verify it's possible before I waste lots of time trying. Haha.
  18. He and I have been talking, here's some more info: "Well Iv'e been fiddling with it for a while with mixed results. I get some games to respond and others not to. I think it's just a case of dirty games or dirty ports or something. I have the shell apart and am looking at the ports. I'll let you know what I can find out. Example: Miss pac-man 7800 and pole position 2 7800 work fine everytime and can play. Wizard of wor and others will not respond to the controllers though. Worm war I and plaque attack work fine (2600 games)" If that info is useful to anyone, please help us out here. Thanks!
  19. I have the opportunity to trade for a 7800, but the guy says he can't get 2600 controllers to work and has no 7800 controllers. Other than that, it loads games and works as far as he knows. My question is this: is it common for 2600 controllers to fail to work on a 7800? What do I need to know, here? Any help would be great, as I'd really like to get my hands on this. Thanks! - Tom
  20. If you're a fan of 2 player games, (though probably not with only 1 working controller,) allow me to recommend Joust and Wizard of Wor. They are both fun 1 player, but 2 player is the best. 5200 Joust is one of the best ports I've ever seen, personally. Beats the crap outta the 2600 and NES versions, imo. (2600 doesn't have the lava troll and all the NES versions I've seen are only 1 player.)
  21. 1.) Altered Beast 2.) Gauntlet 3.) House of the Dead 2 4.) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 5.) Dragon's Lair
  22. I signed up and ordered Pirates! for PC, and it claims to be shipping by Thursday, then I'll have it in a couple weeks. Didn't cost me anything, either. Thanks for mentioning this, mert! Cool stuff.
