#FujiNet Testing and Bug Reporting Thread
Gunstar replied to tschak909's topic in #FujiNet SIO Network Adapter
My SIO cable seems to say in just fine, I was just noticing that on my Fujinet SIO there is a bit of a gap still between the port and plug as shown by others. I was only using the original side SIO of my 800 for the rare occasion when I wanted to use my SIO2PC which is built into my 1050 which is connected to my 1200XL and using a 6ft SIO cable I have to reach it across to my 800 instead of having to move the drive. But now that I have Fujinet, I've no need for SIO2PC & APE on my 800, so it can stay with my 1200XL and only Fujinet will ever be plugged into my 800's side port as all other devices are plugged in through my new SIO on the underside of my 800. So, it's just not an issue for me anyway. Eventually I may get another Fujinet for my 1200XL, if I feel I need more than one, but the way I have my 1200XL system set-up plugging the Fujinet into my 1200XL's SIO isn't really a choice, there's no headroom for it and the PBI I installed in my 1200XL with my Syscheck II plugged in (always for extended memory) there's no elbow room for it either. So, I'm wondering if the Fujinet needs to be the first in the SIO chain? or can I plug it into another peripheral on the daisy chain or into an APElink SIO extender I have in my 1200XL's daisy chain? (it has a couple open SIO ports on it) Does anyone else use their Fujinet with it connected anywhere but directly to the computer? -
8-bit Slicks now ported to #FujiNet!

Had a bit of fun just playing with Mozz and...I forget, but something happened on my end and my connection timed out, I was probably the cause of the serious lag too...I'll have to work out why I timed out. Good fun though guys, but it's dinner time for me! I was trying to chat on the game but couldn't seem to get it right. Hopefully I'll get my connection working better for next time! -
8-bit Slicks now ported to #FujiNet!

I thought I'd registered before, but no matter, I'm registered now under the handle A800. I'm on the server, in-game, right now, as a lone player...just testing it out. I guess some of us will have to set up a race meet here soon. -

3A should be plenty though, I thought you might be running on even half that. But, yeah, it wouldn't hurt to try stock PSU's if they output more amps. -

This is fantastic news! I love this game, but have only been able to play against the computer so far. I'm already a member of the game server, but was originally hoping for a Dragon Cart or PBI device to play. It was my hope that it would be converted for Fujinet. I assume we can download the new version at the 8-bit Slicks site? (I haven't watched the video yet if it says) I definitely see some lag in the game watching the video, it's especially obvious to me since there is none, and it's perfectly smooth playing off-line. But maybe that can be improved? Or is it dependent on your internet service speed? Ugg! those awful colors on that Atari! Someone needs a video upgrade! -
Yeah, I realize this post was made well over a year ago, but I must have missed it then, and since this thread was just resurrected I needed to tell my opinion/perspective on the matter. While I'd rather try sun-brightening a case first, there are instances where paint may be required to really make it look right, like when repairing broken cases and cracks and other repairs are obvious, as well as when doing new I/O ports, like my transplanting the PBI part of a 600Xl (that was really almost beyond recovery so I save it by using it for salvage on other Atari's) PCB and case on my 1200XL. But then, if you are already modifying the case, then it's original value or resale value are out the window anyway. And THAT is the only reason I see in your having this opinion, but if one intends to keep their machine "forever" or likes to do mods anyway, then "NEVER, EVER" is "Never Say Never."

Another good idea by @_The Doctor__! I've reduced from Divisor 0 to 6 because I'm now using the Weather.atr on a daily basis and even multiple times a day, but so far, which isn't much I grant you, Divisor 0 on Fujinet has worked fine otherwise and it would be great if the program was adjusted to work at divisor 0, but I would like to use 0 and then change it to whatever is needed on the fly because I'm sure this won't be the last program loaded over Fujinet that behaves this way, and probably isn't the first, except to me.

Who produced that particular Fujinet? I got mine from The Brewing Academy, it seems like it has the same issue, though luckily I don't have to use the pass-thru SIO usually, since I recently installed a second SIO to my 800. Or maybe everyone is using the same 3D printer .stl so all are the same? -

I'm using my Fujinet on an Incognito 800, which can work fine without additional power, in the sense that the BIOS load screen gives the Fujinet time to get ready, were stock 400/800 and 1200XL's boot too fast. But just to be on the safe side, with all the upgrades I have installed (beyond the Incognito) I thought it better not to put additional amperage drain on the 800 and have been using the USB power from the start. Of course I use the Atari "universal" PSU, the version with 31VA (3.4 amps), so I think it could handle the extra amperage load. How many amps is your PSU rated for, @NISMOPC? I haven't even tried it without the USB PSU, except when I had to plug it into a PC to flash the latest firmware. -
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm not only new to Fujinet still, and learning, but I've never even used a modem with Atari or ever been to a BBS or IRC, etc.

Ok, the results are that Weather.atr works fine up to divisor 5: 73Kb, most of the time, after that it crashes or hangs if you try to get a forecast. Divisor 6: 69Kb seems to work every time.

Very cool! And the thread is from 2008! So @Urchlay decided to call it 'Fujichat' long before (over a decade!) Fujinet was even a thought! What a coincidence! Is there a newer version out there than 0.3? I would have thought it would be updated to a newer version in the last decade+. Is @Urchlay still around? Is it a dead project and this is all we can hope for from it? Of course I didn't read the whole thread yet, so maybe an update was mentioned later in the thread? I'll go check... The link for download on the first post doesn't work anymore, where can it be downloaded from, if anywhere anymore? Edit, Ok, went through the thread and the last posts by Urchlay were in 2019 and it looks like the latest versions are either 0.4 or 0.5pre3. there are a couple places in the thread to download directly from AA, but none of Urchlay's links work at all. Here is what appears to be the latest versions in this .zip I just pulled from that thread, just so you don't have to go to it if you don't want too. FujiChat.zip

I just figured out the problem. I had set my HSIO on Incognito and on Fujinet to divisor 0. I just changed my Incognito BIOS back to standard SIO speed and now weather.atr works fine. I hadn't thought about that until now. So I'll do some further testing as different divisors and see when it stops working right.

@bocianuI updated to the latest firmware as of yesterday, unless it's changed again since then. I only got my Fujinet a few days ago. It was working fine yesterday too. I'll check it out again though...I just tried again and it still hangs at the "checking forecast" screen, sometimes when it does it show a "c" down in the corner. And for the heck of it I changed cities, I tried London,UK, and it also gave me the current weather, but when I tried to load the forecast it hung again, but has a "ca" down in the corner sometimes, sometimes nothing. I can hit ESC and it will go back to current weather and all the other options work like changing the graphics and units and refresh. etc. If I let it sit on "checking forcast" for a while, the screen sometimes changes to light blue, showing my city, state and country at the bottom, and if I hit the space bar the "next", "back", and "quit" options show up, but "next" does noting and back will load the current forecast screen back up. sometimes this doesn't happen, but I can go back with ESC. And sometimes the entire program just freezes and I have to do a cold start.

It turns out, thankfully, it's not an issue with my 800 at all. Luckily before I started taking her apart again I check my sound system and a wire came loose from the speaker that puts out the original POKEY sound, so I was only getting sound out of it from the 2nd Pokey. Now I hear S.A.M!
-
Ok, thanks for the info there, but I think the problem is on my end; I just loaded up a stereo sound file to play and I'm only getting partial sound, so something probably happened when I had the 800 apart a few days ago to install a Sophia 2 board. I hadn't been using any programs with sound since then, and Incognito BIOS shows "Stereo: Present" and I just didn't notice/know my computer wasn't working right in the sound department. Now I know...time to open her up again and see what went awry. Thanks!

You were probably clear enough for most, I'm not a programmer (yet, learning BASIC and Assembly now, but still a noob) so your debug list above was Greek to me. Are you referring to the flasher program on the PC to update the Fujinet firmware? Again, a noob with Fujinet, so I'm not aware if there's a flasher I can load onto the Atari yet, if you mean something other than the firmware flasher on the PC. I can tell you that when I updated the firmware yesterday I got no speech output if there was supposed to be some. I should also probably point out that my Incognito 800 has a Pokeymax Quad+Covox installed. It could be an issue with it I'm having.

OK, thanks. Will be awaiting your results.

I'm testing with an Incognito 800 in XL/XE mode...does that not make a difference?

I decided to continue this thread instead of starting another, since it was already here. I was trying to test S.A.M out. I loaded up the SAM-Test.atr and it loaded and set up the ramdisk and went into BASIC and gave me the READY prompt. I was expecting more. So I went to the Fujinet wiki and into the S.A.M instructions and I used the OPEN #1,8,0,"P4:" command, then tried the PRINT #1;"HELLO" but nothing happens, no voice. I saw the Fujinet activity light for a brief moment only then back to READY. So I reloaded the SAM-Test.atr and just got the READY prompt again, I typed LIST and see there is the four line program there, but it does nothing when run, just like me entering the commands in direct mode.

That would be cool, definitely. But I could use a PBI version on both my 1200XL and 800 now, so I don't have to worry about if someone ever uses the 800 internal slots for anything or not! It would definitely make things neater than a chain of PBI devices out the back though...but then I'm going to make my own PBI device box for multiple PBI devices in the near future.

Ok, thanks for the near immediate reply!

Has anyone been having issue getting the forecast with Weather.xex/atr today? Yesterday everything worked great for me, but today I can only get current conditions and when I go to forecast it hangs at "checking forecast" and sometimes it freezes and I have to reboot and other times I can get back to the current conditions. Everything else seems to be working right though. If you have looked at the weather on your fujinet today can you tell me if the forecaster is working for you or not? I want to figure out if it's an issue on my end or with the service maybe?
