Exactly right. And further: all stereo games sound better on headphones since your perception of the stereo seperation is artificially increased by the position of the speakers on either side of your head. Stone Man! Your good!

If it is Jagwars I'm a smuggler/bounty hunter like Han/Bobafet Who believes in a "trusty blaster at my side" and think the force is a lot of cheap tricks and mumbo jumbo!

Good news! It matters! Jaguar fans want to try new products like Painter today. When products are available, they buy them, budget permitting... When products are not, they buy other products, "retail therapy". Good news! The Jaguar IS most definitely available. I can get one from Ebay, from a variety of specialist retailers, or from various retro-gaming stores, it's effectively as easy here as it was when Atari sold them! Good news! I'm pleased to tell you that at least in Europe, the 2600 is still most definitely available. You can buy them from Ebay, (new) from some specialist retailers, retro-gaming stores, flea markets/car boot sales, and a host of other places. More products are coming out regularly! What should you tell somebody wanting a CD bypass to play Painter? Wait? Wait for a copy of BattleSphere Gold on Ebay? No, I'm sure you want Jaguar fans to have fun today, as well, they'll buy BattleSphere later if you can release more copies. After all, JUGS-DD is free with BattleSphere, so no issue there! Cheers, Richard / JustClaws. That IS good news! I was beginning to think that I was the only person that actually liked to be able to actually purchase Jaguar products and PLAY them! I was beginning to think that everone else was satisfied with printing out screenshots of games like Battlesphere Gold and taping them onto their TV's, and saying "Man! I'm SOOO happy this game was made, now I can sit and stare at a screenshot!

I'd just like to note that many games have Stereo sound, but that the seperation of the stereo channels isn't very good, so it pretty much sounds like the same sounds are coming out of both speakers, but, it stills sounds a lot better than if the game was done in mono.

There is one other important difference, very important, for someone who wants to get some of these new hombrews and lost titles and play them soon; two of those products are available NOW for anyone to buy that wants one, one is NOT available at this time and no one (except the maker themselves possibly) knows if or when it WILL be available again.

My copy of IS2 (original copy) started having problems on the weapons screen too, the graphics of the spinning weapon on several weapons would screw up then it would all freeze up. I found out there is a way to avoid this if you are quick: move to the weapon or weapons that it is crashing on and VERY QUICKLY pick it (before the spinning graphic has a chance to load up)and then push the [A] button (be quick about it!)which will jump you over to the exit button and then push it to go to the game. If you pick the weapon as stated above and then hit the [A] button quickly, you can then move back over to other weapons (very quickly so none of the graphics load) and pick them and then push the[A] button again and repeat this process until you have what you want. I did manage to make a back-up copy of the cd which is screwed up on only one weapon, where as my original disc has screwed up on several others since then. So if you skip the movies and do as I've said, you just might be able to play your game after all. Keep your fingers crossed (but not while your trying to quickly do this) I don't see why your discs would do this except for damaged discs. I have kept all my cd's in perfect condition. This dosnt mean I don't play them... I just take extra care of them. My IS2 disc has never had the problem you are describing. It works perfectly and it is in perfect condition. My disc is in perfect condition as far as a lack of scratches go, but which VERSION do you have? the Black labled one or the CDR with the yellow label?

Some of these games (generally the 2D ones) only have the MUSIC in stereo, like Rayman.

Those do look cool! I guess I'll have to by a Polish to English dictionary!

By the way, Road Rash did not start on the 3DO. There are versions available on the Genesis that are pre-1993, when 3DO was released. Just a small correction. I also believe that Need For Speed didn't start on the 3DO either. I'll never understand the appeal it had because I know VERY little about the system. I might do some research into it. However, because it was so expensive, I doubt that there is anything on it that would interest me. I'm also sure that it's still expensive nowadays...to collect. Am I wrong on this? your right about Road rash, it started on the Genesis, but the Need for Speed DEFINATELY started out on the 3DO (even the PC version came out just a bit later) and IMHO was the definitive NFS game blowing away the Saturn and PSX version/sequels that came later. Not till this current generation, again IMHO, has there been a better NFS. it does move a bit slower than the sequels, but was every bit as fast on the 3DO as the inferior (gfx&handling) Saturn&PSX versions of the original, and the sequels just lost something in the gameplay. Sorry to say, but you are also wrong about the price of collecting for the 3DO today, while the system can go for as much as $75, but usually $50 or less, the games can be obtained for pretty darn cheap, a lot cheaper than many Jag or Saturn games...But know you know. the 3DO is a great system in my opinion, for it's day and there are a lot of very cool games on it, but there are also a lot of very bad games on it, but it has a bunch to choose, so just ask those of us that have it wich games to get&avoid. The CD-i while I never owned one, seems not a good choice because of it's tiny library of poor games and if you want VCD, the 3DO has a module just like the CD-i, if hard to find, but the Saturn, PSX and DC also have third-party VCD players available for them, not to mention that at least half the DVD players out ther can play VCD's (just look for compatibility on the box), so there is really no reason to want a CD-i at all except for collecting rare electronic devices, and maybe it's one hit; Burn Cycle, which i believe can also be found on the PC anyway. There's just no real reason to have one, if your not a collector, unless you see it and some software in a GoodWill for dirt cheap, then you might pick it up just for a very few tiny kicks. (Which I did see one for $5 at a GW, but still decided against it, since there was no software with it)

If you are talking about WarGames based on the 80's movie, yes, I used to own it on cartridge. I did not know it existed any other way (except for the file version that can be downloaded off the net, but I always assumed it was made into a file from the cartridge). It was a black cartridge IIRC.

Most of the Jagcd titles have good stereo sound or surround, except maybe the Readysoft games like Dragons Lair, they sound like mono. off the top of my head ones that sound good in stereo: Aircars Battlesphere&I assume Gold Iron Soldier I-war T2k Defender2K HoverStrike (although it's backwards, boy did they screw up there! but if you switch left&right outputs it works good. HS:UL cd has it right) Fight for Life Skyhammer Cannon Fodder Hyperforce Rayman Misslecommand3D Ultra Vortek Towers II Zero NBA Jam (3D stereo) I know most of the others actually do, but many of them are not done well and hard to distinguish. I've had my Jag hooked up to stereo and/or surround since the beginning and most games sound pretty good to me, so just try some more...

There were two different versions, the original, which is actually on a CDR with a laser printed label (which I think looks TONS better than just the black label with "Iron Soldier 2" on it), and the second, glass masters with the black label I just stated. I have the original and it may be a problem with the CDR, but I'm glad I have it anyway, if only for the label. (I made a back-up of it) Which do you have?

OK, maybe we should try this another way; the ST forum has an awsome thread with people listing all the RPG's they can think of that came out on the ST, so, I'll start: Alternaty Reality: City&Dungeon Ultima 1, 2, 3, 4 Phantasie Wizards Crown Temple of Aphsai *(spelling?) Upper Reaches of Aphsai* Curse of Rah * *Temple of Aphsai Trilogy Telengard...

I've been playing Legends of Valour a lot lately (on the Amiga; I could never get the downloaded ST copies to work right and I couldn't find and original copy anywhere for a reasonable price for the ST, I finally found an Amiga version on E-bay, which I got all the way from England!)and I REALLY like this game! I'm wondering which of these RPG's mentioned are like LOV? I know the ISHAR are 3D-ish like it, which I prefer (3D) but I also like the whole city/dungeon thing (like AR on the 8-bit) that it has going on with hostels to stay at, guilds to join, shops to shop at, and the all around "epic" feel. I like Dungeon Master and those types all right, but they just didn't do it for me like Alternate Reality and Legends of Valour has, because they aren't as all inclusive. I need "living worlds", not just another dungeon to explore by itself. Is the Ishar series similiar? (another game that the hacked versions online refuse to work for me, at least on the real machine) So, can you guys tell me which out of all thes RPG's mentioned are the most like these types?

I've been on an RPG kick again latley, for all my systems that have RPG's, and I was wondering if there might be some on the 8-bit that I'm not aware of, which would most likely mean something from England/Europe. I know about the Alternate Reality(Datasoft), Ultima(Origin/Lord British), Phantasy and others from SSI that were released in the U.S., but are there any besides these that maybe weren't released in the states that I may not have heard of? I'm hoping for something "3D-ish" like Alternate Reality or A Bard's Tale (on everything but the 8-bit as far as I know), but anything would be cool. Thanks for any info.

take a look at my post in the "is Iron soldier any good?" thread about your problem with the game!

Hey! Is there some kind of list you can put my name on? Don't wanna miss out if my internet connection goes apes*it again. Umm, somebody quote me incase I'm on the ol' ignore list. j/k That was not the official announcement, and there are some issues to overcome yet and in the end you may not want it, so don't hold your breath. It is NOTHING like that controller above.

From reading that interview, it looks like he was depending too much on the 68000, it's all 68000/DSP code from what I understood, which may cause a problem with a voxel engine if your mainly using the 68000. He Also mentions that the Jag wan't powerful enough because of "it was too limited by it's bus and it's 68k using only 16/32". It seems to me, that he was very new to the Jag, RR is a first generation game, and he relied FAR too heavily on the 68000. Again showing Atari's mistake of including tht chip to give developers "a familiar place to start". I'm sure Phase Zero doesn't rely on the 68k that much. Looks to me like he was (at first) trying to parallel the Falcon development which isn't a goog ideas since the Falcon's 68030 is much more powerful than the Jaguars 68000. If he had avoided 68000 as much as possible and actually used the blitter and object processor more, he could have pulled off a voxel engine easily like they did with PhaseZero. Even his new 3D engine apparently relied on the 68000 too much. But he obviously managed to pull something good out after transfering some code to the DSP since he said it finally ran at 25fps instead of the 5-10 on the 68000. It all comes down to being Atari's fault once again, with inclusion of 68000 chip, poor documentation and developer support. But at least RR and Ishar were done, even if not improved too much over the other versions. I can't wait!

I wasn't "yelling" and I thought it was pretty civil, just pointing out an error on you're part. but GEEZE, that was certainly uncalled for! Talking to yourself in a mirror? Guess I have three people on my ignore list now, what an immature brat! Respond if you like, but I won't see it.

The problem is not the promoting of your products, the problem is the way you do it makes it seem like your product is the ONLY way, and less knowledgeable may believe that to be fact, and then if they want your product, because they think it what they NEED if they want a chance to play these other products they soon find out it isn't even available! Which you also fail to mention. Just a "by the way we are currently sold out, but will have more available in the future" would be enough. Some one with an pinch of integrity would at least elude to the fact that there are other products or ways of getting the job done too, even if you suggested that your way might be the best and give them a list of it's advantages. But that will never happen will it? (and yes, your still on my ignore list, I just had to follow this discussion carefully).

Notheydon't burn out often at all from my experience, i still have my original from '95 and it still works perfectly, but you never know when something might happen like a power surge or lightning strike, and it's not like the spare has to collect dust, you can use it to network games as we've said...I have backups or will get backups for ALL mys systems just in case something does happen; and if both go bad, there's always a chance to make one working one out of two or more broken ones. The Saturn is much more likely to go before a Jag is, since it has the cd-rom which I doubt will last as long as a solid-state cart based system. the cdrom is actually pretty good. i have the saturn since 1996. and have never got a problem with it. it all depends on the user i think. how he uses the cd's/cartridges. I'm on my third Saturn since I bought my first in '98 (first two new) and NOBODY, but NOBODY takes better care of their systems than myself. But they can be had for the average price of $30 (used) around where I live, so it's no biggy for me to buy another if they keep dying. I still have the others to use as spares for parts, but so far the same thing keeps going out on me: the laser. Oh, by the way, I've had my Jagcd since '96 and it gets used on a daily basis for games and/or music cd's (for VLM) and it still works perfectly. I have heard of others having problems though. well...duh! no wonder youres broke. its second hand . mine is brand new. you never know what the owner did to it. and i think i take better care for my sega saturn . since the saturn is more as my second life. i let nobody play the sega saturn. only the ones that are very carefull. which is almost nobody. You need to brush up on your reading comprehension. I stated above that I'm ON my THIRD which is used and still working. The FIRST TWO were NEW and they are the ones that BROKE DOWN!!!

Sorry, that was uncalled for. People can figure it out for themselves. Won't happen again.

Pretty much custom built by myself, I used to see similiar sticks for other systems (PSX,DC,etc) in this game shop in Orange County, CA. (a local guy was making them I guess and selling them through the shop) and I decided I wanted one for the Jaguar. So, I bought the cabinet and true arcade components through MAAS arcade systems and put it together myself, and included the Jag controller mounted too it so it would work with all the games (since so many need the keypad) over the years I customized the paint job and slowly added the Jag logos and stuff because I felt just the plain black cabinet and red buttons was too, well, plain. I have since made it compatible with all Atari systems (except the 5200 and ST) with another cord ( I wanted it to be fully compatible with the 7800's two buttons, which makes it NON-compatible with the ST). But it works fine with all other Atari computers and sytems as well as Commodore computers and many other systems that used the standard 9-pin plug. I'm currently working on another special controller for the Jaguar, but that will be anounced in due time when it's completed to my liking (it will be for sale through Ambient Distortions). This is the first I've mentioned it, but I will not go into further detail until it's ready for the Jag market. The arcade stick is just a prototype and I don't intend to make any more, but this other controller I'm working on will be sold to the Jag community, most likey in limited quantities.
