Infogrames now owns Atari and they are using the Atari name on a TON of excellent first-run series&games for all current systems, not just the Xbox, titles such as UNREAL TOURNAMENT, TERMINATOR:Dawn of Fate, TEST DRIVE, and many others...SUPERMAN? There is a surfing game TRANSWORLD SURF, ATV game, JETSKI game, the list goes on and on, but ATARI is like SEGA now, just software for other consoles.

I found a boxed addition of this game, complete, at a Goodwill for $3 a while ago, but when I got it home, the disks were all bad, I would have returned it, but i want the box and manual and map! So, since I only payed $3 I kept it. But, I've been trying to locate a working copy of the game online for it ever since, from some of these hacking crews, but none of the few I've found seems to be good cracks, they either just don't load, or crash soon after I start a game. Can anyone direct me to a working copy of this game? Or could it be that my ST or version of TOS is the problem, and one or more of these might work on another ST? I have a 1040STf with V.1.0 TOS. Anyone have any insight either way?

If it were any dealer besides Telegames, I'd suggest a pricing foul-up/misprint situation, but knowing how outrageously priced most of what they sell is, it probably isn't a mistake...

I agree.

I dig motorpsycho, one of my favorite 7800 games! If you think the controls suck, try using the difficulty switch which brings up some "sensitivity" numbers and you can then change the control by moving the stick. you can make turning as tight or loose as you want and it's an absolutely fantastic game! (I only say this because most reviews claim the control sucks, but not if you adjust it to your liking!) It helps to read instructions for games if you have them... As far as I'm concerned, Cousin Vinnie's review of this game (and most others) is WHACK! The control he harps on is totally adjustable. You CAN race against other racers and it is INTENSE (except maybe on the easiest track, each track is competitively harder). You DON'T have to wait for the motorcyle parts to stop moving to start again after an accident (try pressing the button and skipping it! hey! there's a concept!!!). The hills in the game and obstacles make it QUITE different to Pole Position II, and MUCH better in my opinion, and the awsome jumping of course and you CAN make yourself come down early, you don't have to wait in the air and crash on those hairpin turns! I think the graphics are better than PP2 too! But this is just MY opinion. If you actually try playing the game for more than 5 or 10 minutes Cousin Vinnie, you might learn to control the bike and get good at it, it's not that hard, especially after figuring out what "sensitivity" settings work best for you (experiment a bit! it's only two simpple numbers to remember in the future! right it down somewhere! But then, I only agree with about half of your reviews Cousin Vinnie, but hey! I still enjoy the other half and like your site overall...

Stone, just hold one of your Jaguar carts up next to the pictures on the previous screen, you'll notice the difference.

Actually, with AvP, I'm almost positive the sidestepping is mapped to the 7 and 9 buttons on the keypad, which would be the x&z buttons on the procontroller(Towers II uses the shoulder buttons for strafing), I told someone the same as you did once, then the next time I played, realized my mistake. But as Stone said, any game that uses the keypad extensively, has the ability to take advantage of the extra procontroller buttons. Like in Cybermorph, you can use the shoulder buttons to change views, Doom lets you change between a few weapons with the pro buttons (as well as AvP), Blue lightning use the shoulder buttons for afterburner and airbrakes, and the X,Y&Z buttons to change from cockpit to external with I believe the Y button and the x&z do something too, that I forget offhand. The list goes on and on. There are actually only a small number of games that don't take advantage of procontroller buttons in one way or another, mostly the platformers(Rayman, Pitfall, etc), shooters (Raiden, TrevorMcfur, etc.) and half the fighters (DDV, Kasumi Ninja, Dragon:Burcelee) the other fighters do use them. there are a few others that don't use the buttons, but the majority of Jag games use them.
-
The black shelled Cybermorph is most definately a darker black then all other Jag carts, the others are really dark grey, like the Jag itself! some trevor mcfur carts are like this too, the early ones...

Black DreamCcast vs. White DreamCast
Gunstar replied to Nintendo Penguin's topic in Modern Console Discussion
It may work fine, as do all of ours, but that's not the point. Some people like to have something unique and special compared to the same old thing owned by the masses. We are stylish people who like to have stylish things. We want to be individuals and own unique things that reflect our individuality. IMHO, my DC looks a heck of a lot better than the regualar "stock" ones, and I can say I have something unique and show others. How many others have a white DC with logos that aren't even available in the U.S. and a Blue LED, which are just much cooler looking than the standard green/red/orange LED's that are on EVERYTHING? My DC is still a bit more conservative than other's I've seen, it does look just like European ones, except for the blue LED, but it's still rare and unique looking in the U.S. If your happy with commons things, then congratulations, you've own a common thing. -
Black DreamCcast vs. White DreamCast
Gunstar replied to Nintendo Penguin's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Guess. I have a white US DC with a blue LED and the blue Euro DC logo's on the unit and controller! I wanted to get a black DC originally, because it fits in with the rest of my black/dark grey consoles, but I was thoroughly turned off because of the, IMHO, quite lame "Sega Sports" logos on them... -
someone left a post that a couple copies would be available for sale at Jagfest UK, so maybe this is a sign that more will be out soon?
-
This is true. I managed to make it once, then died soon after inside the complex because of it being too hard, I really wanted to like that game too! As for the other games mentioned, I never noticed those bugs, except for feud...do you have originals? Or are these downloaded copies that may be bad cracks?

I remember that there were several disk copiers like the 'chipmunk' for example, but I'm not sure if they were what your looking for or not, they generally were accompanied by a list of commercial software that they could successfully copy, so it may not be your standard sector or bit copy program...I'm sure some did exist, it's just been so long now that either the 'Happy' or 'duplicator' disk drive mods are your best bet, they upgrade the single and enhanced density disk drives to full double density too, so they have more than one benefit, they generally also increased the speeds of the drives at least three-fold.
-
I think some of the online Atari dealers like B&C and Best E. still sell the happy modifications and happy modified drives.
-
Depends on how well they were protected/stored and how well "used" they are, the more a disk is used, the more wear and tear on it and the shorter the life. Most of the disks I'm sending you are easily 10-15 years old, and they are working fine. The outside speculation of a floppies life, I think was supposed to be lik 15-20 years, IIRC, but I think that some will last much longer if stored properly and not over used. I know many Atari dealers still sell floppies, both "new" and "used" and I bet at least those "new" ones will last for years from the time you format them, even after an extended shelf life.

Contiki, and various Jaguar keyboard solutions.
Gunstar replied to justclaws's topic in Atari Jaguar
A problem I see with using the the serial interface ( although I'm admittedly ignorant of ethernet, just never used it before and not sure exactly how it works) is that some of us have no choice but to use a modem to hook up the Jag to the net. I have a 28k phone connection and that is the only way I can get online. Now, I'm also ignorant of what Matthias project entails, although Stone did tell me about some of it's features, but it may not be for everybody, I certainly don't know at this time if I want it or need it, and the final price will be a factor as well. All I know is that the best way for me to use contiki is with a modem, but I'm going to need some type of device that I can connect that modem too like an RS232 port, or ethernet (if that's possible, again, I claim total ignorance of ethernet, it's just not something I had an opportunity to use). So, for me, at this point, a controller port keyboard seems most reasonable for my circumstances, alhtough Stone's idea sounds cooler and more feasible for a standard keyboard. What of the Dreamcast keyboard as an example though? It uses it's (1) controller port and is a fully-functional PC AT style keyboard, and an adapter to use an actual PC AT keyboard is also available for it, and a DC controller port, from my knowledge of them from another project I'm working on, has no more input lines possible than the Jaguar controller port, so it MUST be possible to get a full AT style keyboard to work on a Jaguar through it's port too. I think, Stone, that you are not taking some possibilities into account, take the teamtap for example, it allows the connection of 4 twenty-four button controllers or more, to work through one port ultimately! Haven't I heard that it's theoretically possible to have team-taps plugged into team-taps for many more controller to be added? If this is all possible, then why not one simple AT-keyboard? Isn't it just a matter of multi-tasking (multiplexing-MUX) the input lines? -
thanks guys! I know this thread is intended more for current developers, but since it is in an open forum, those of use who are just starting out (learning basics) and users will be reading and such questions can cause anxieties to the ignorant. thanks for your understanding and tolerance to my "annoying little laymen questions."
-
that's a very good question and I'm not sure there are, as such options weren't widely available on these primitive machines...but I think some of the hardware copiers like the 'Happy' devices for 810 and 1050 drives might have such things. But is it really neccessary anyway? I have lots of old disks that have problems loading, and I just downloaded .atr images of the games off the net, and made new disks...which you'd probably have to do to get said copier itself anyway, right? I do believe the A.P.E prosystem program has features like this, but if you have it, then you also have the means to just download the needed game file and make a new disk also...

Isn't this academic? Aren't there ALREADY two (or three)seperate standards for EEPROM saves between Protector:SE, BSG and the B&C bypass cart (assuming it HAS eeprom, I don't know)? Or are we just expected to buy ALL of them and any new ones that come out? Please explain to us non-developers or those just learning to avoid anxieties.

The Intellivision collection is now spoken for...no definates on anything else yet...so they are still available so far. I'll take a look at what you got MegaManfan...and PM you if I see anything I like.
-
possibly, but I really wanted to get rid of it as a set, it's hard to trade/sell NES units alone...they are everywhere...but as a collection with some cool accessories and games makes it more enticing...

Which would you choose - an Atari 800 or an 800XL?
Gunstar replied to AtariDude's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
While I have my 130XE hooked up now, and most of the time, for it's memory (I play a LOT of Alternate Reality City&Dungeon and they take advantage of the extra memory if you have it for less disk swapping and much shorter/less load times), I prefer the looks and ruggedness of the 800 over both my 800xl and 130xe, it just looks more like a "real" computer to me, like the old Apple II's I used in school and like todays PC's with the big towers, I know this is silly in a way, as the XL/XE are in actuality "more computer," but I like the classic looks of "the tank" and if I can ever find a memory upgrade for my 800 that works with Alternate Reality, then my XE would go in the closet...although I'm soon going to have a 1200XL, and from what I've been told, it's the one that REALLY has the best keyboard, it's larger too, so it looks mor like a "real" classic computer, and is slimmer to boot! Plus it's got the 64k standard for more game compatibility, etc. and lots of cool upgrades are possible...all in all, though, I say get them all like me! I just need to get more room and a few more monitors so I can have them ALL set up! -
My Intellivision that I'm trading him is COMPLETE, excellent condition, with all hookups and 11 games, 10 of which are boxed, in mint or near mint condition with all overlays/manuals etc. the 1200XL I'm getting, from what I understand, comes with nothing, except a basoc cart, not even a power pack or tv cord! He can't even say if it WORKS and the 1200 is NOT rare, just about every dealer listed on AA has them for sale, new, used, reconditioned. plus others! here a perfect example of MY system being worth much more! both are sold at 4jays, the Intellivision for $70, the 1200Xl for $49! look here: http://www.4jays.com/intellivision.html same dealer: http://www.4jays.com/atari8bit.html he's getting a MUCH better deal than me, as far as monitary value goes! I may get stuck with a 1200xl that down't even work for all I know, and I'm still willing to take a chance and trade him for my top quality INTV stuff! do you guys REALLY know the values and rarity of ANYTHING?
