  1. I live in the sticks and the only ISP in the area has only 28k service, my only other choices are a large monthly service charge through DirectTV satellite, or paying for a long distance call to get a decent speed providor, which would run into even larger phone bills than DirectTV, and I'd still end up with only 56k which is all my modem can handle. The 28k connection is plenty fast enough for me to surf with, I only run into problems when doing downloads and uploads anyway, both of which are rare for me, except for small Atari 8-bit and ST files, which even at 28k, only take a matter of seconds or a few minutes(48k-1meg files). So I'm perfectly satisfied only paying $8.95 a month for full, unlimited internet service at 28k and a free local call. Besides, I look at things a bit different than most in this world, I figure, if it was good enough for me ten years ago, it's good enough now. I upgrade about once a decade, and I still use all my old computers and consoles anyway, they still work and I still enjoy them.
  2. Update on covers: I mistakenly mis-quoted the files sizes of these formats for those of you who want a copy. the .PDD files, even archived with WINRAR are still 10.8MB. I don't think I can even attach files that large to my e-mail, but I will attempt it if someone has the available space. the JPEG WINRAR archives, which are still high-quality, much better than that shown here, is 2.83MB. I would rather and am capable of sending this format to anyone who has the e-mail space. Another option is if you have MSN messenger, you can contact me and I can send the archive to you through it. I have already let replied to those who PM'd me about this...UPDATE:With my e-mail, I am only cabable of attachments up to 3mb, so everyone will have to accept the Jpeg images is they want any, the MSN messenger idea is just bad as well as it would take hours since it transfers files at about 2k per second with my slow connection...so I think that is out of the question. the JPEG images are pretty high quality anyway, and should be satisfactory too most, I printed out a copy and the reduced resolution is hardly noticable compared to the .PDD photshop versions...a relatively low quality image was used for the front cover (Native title) anyway, so regardless, it's blurry at best, but suitable for my needs for now.
  3. I love how you guys round up every one of ScatoLOGIC's prices $20 or more. You just want to believe that our products are overpriced so much that you'll exaggerate the prices just to make yourself feel better. Please explain to me exactly how he's going to play the Native Demo CD on BJL? Last time I checked, BJL couldn't read a Jaguar CD. sorry if I got your price wrong, but when your talking about $150+ dollars for a game (+ SHIPPING) give or take $20 is much less doesn't make much difference. I was "estimating" price including shipping too, so I probably wasn't quite $20 over the total if you take into account TOTAL cost to the customer. I never said ANYTHING about him using the NATIVE CD!!! NATIVE is available for DOWNLOAD and can be easily loaded from a PC into the JAGUAR modded with BJL or using a BJL cartridge and BJL cable!!! Not to mention using JUGS to do it, if you don't mind waiting half an hour for it to load as opposed to a couple of minutes with the 8-bit BJL loader...he asked if one had to have a JAGCD to play this game, and I told him NO and honestly explained HOW. You offered to your Battlesphere Gold/JUGSDD/DEMO CD solution, which costs far more, and is still unavailable as of the last time I checked to purchase it on your site!
  4. that will work as long as none of the milk go down INSIDE the key shafts AND onto the membrane underneath...otherwise, he'll have to go the whole 9 yards!
  5. I think it's the name of an entire butt kicking album, but what do I know? I'm one of the "idiots" for purchasing two Scatbox Deluxes. LOL! Wouldn't that make you TWO of the "idiots?" I'm pretty sure it's just called "Fly on the Wall" though...

    OMC?

"You're only young once, but you can be immature forever. " Amen to that!
  7. If you guys have a large enough e-mail account to handle about 3 megs, I can send you the PhotoShop .pdd format, which is very high quality, super sharp and precisely the right size to print and cut out. PM me... or, the middle ground, with about 1.6 meg .jpeg files, better than those 2-300k files I posted...or, last, just right click on those ones there and remember begger's can't be chooser's...
  8. yes! and you don't have to wait God only knows how long, and pay $180 for a game to get the bypass and demo cd to play it either! you can dowload it for free, and use BJL 8-bit uploader to load it in a couple of min.
  9. the 130XE is just as compact, the footprint is just a different shape; XE is narrower, but thicker (side to side/front to back) the 800XL is wider, but thinner. But, the 800XL is a bit sturdier which is good for travel and the cart port is on the top which also is better for setting it down anywhere, bed, carpet, etc.
  10. your going to have to open up the computer and remove the keyboard, then, you'll have to take out all the screws on the back of it to access the inside, the keys will come off easy in this state too, they should pop off. then, either use something like windex or rubbing alcohol and some paper towels to carefully clean it all up, then re-assemble it all. lots of small pieces though, so have a bowl or something ready to store them in, and you may want to make sure you remember where everything goes, by sketching or writing it down, or something (I'm assuming you've never done anything like this before-disassembling a keyboard). It sould work fine after that.
  11. actually, no, it can be loaded up into ram via Battlesphere cart/JUGS or if you have a BJL/BJL cart (like protector SE) or some other dev system set up...cd is just the most convenient, and it comes free with all the different cd bypass systems (glass mastered cd, but no cover) only like the first level is playable though, and no sound.

  14. Well, here are some samples of my Native cd inserts, they have been reduced drastically of course, so I could show you here, the originals are at an extremely high resolution saved in Photshop format at around 5megs, so these samples have been reduced in quality about 25 times (razor sharp super-high res. originals)...Not the greatest as far as design goes, I had to cover up the old artwork&text on the templates I used, but I figure much better than no covers/inserts. Thanks to those who linked me to the screenshots, thankyou to those who host the screenshots on their site (CyberRoach in this case) and thanks to Stone, for supplying me with the 'American Hero' insert templates which I used to make them.
  15. Thanks, I tried to look at cyberroach, through a google search, and it took me to a screen with three screenshots, some of which are shown here, but I appreciate this link, helps a lot. Very curious though...it shows screen shots that are apparently above and beyond the first level (I assume, I've never even made it to the end of what is there... ), are there other levels that were done, and aren't in the demo game, or they are there, but just not accessible? Anyone now?
  16. I'm attempting to make some cd jewel case inserts for my Native demo cd form Songbird. I'm trying to locate good quality screenshots to use in my inserts. I have found a few screenshots of in-game graphics, but I also want a screen shot of the title screen/native title logo, etc. to use in the front cover insert. Thanks for any links/help, I've been searching for hours with little luck, even on google, except for the three in-games shots..
  17. I too, would have to agree that overall, the 8-bit is superior in quality of the games. But, the 7800 does have several that I think are undeniably better than the 8-bit graphically, like mentioned before; Asteroids, Joust, Ms. pacman, Robotron, DigDug and some others, the sound is inferior to the 8-bit's Pokey (execept with BallBlazer which is DEFINATELY the best on the 7800, in every way),but then there are those cool games that just aren't on the 8-bit like Commando, Ikari Warriors and TowerToppler, that are very good on the 7800 and better than any computer version I've seen, both 8-bit (c64) and 16-bit (ST). As far as I'm concerned, the sound isn't that important to me on these old 8-bit machines, even most 16-bit computers sound sucked compared to more modern systems, even if they were in stereo. It's nice to have the marginally better sound, but the graphics are more important to me in the classic systems (which is why I rarely play 2600 games except for the occasional Solaris, the graphics have just grown too primitive for me; this is not the case with the 800/5200/7800 though). but then, I'm lucky I guess, because I own all of them from; 2600, 5200, 7800 and 8-bits (and 16-bit ST for that matter) so I get the best of everything! But like Sauron mentioned, the 8-bit rules because of games like Alternate Reality, M.U.L.E, Ultima series and those Lucas games not found on the 5200/7800; Eidelon&Koronis rift. I also prefer the disk versions of 8-bit Ballblazer and Rescue on fractalus because of the little extras like the intros while the games are loading (if you don't have the priated versions or pre-release versions that lack these intros, or XEGS carts that also lack them), even 7800 Ballblazer, though better in every way, doesn't have the cool intro of the hovercraft flying by and the pilots stopping&waving, etc...too cool! (and while the game loads!). Bottom line, get an 8-bit and SIO2PC if you can, but get all the consoles too, if you can.

    What if...

IIRC, quite a while ago, I'm not even sure if it was back when I still hung out at JI2 or if it was here, but I asked some similiar questions about Jaguar cart eeproms and their life expectancy, and I believe it was T-bird that told me that there really isn't a "10 year lifespan" so to speak. It's not like the cart eeproms will just wear out or stop working once they are ten years old, that's just an extimated time that Atari put on the carts IF you use them regularly AND save over and over again. They are capable of more than 100,000 re-writes and will not fail until this limit is reached, 10 years is an estimate if you continually save games a lot from using the games regualarly (like as much as you did when you first got the game). I certainly am not constantly overwriting my previous saved games, and there are only about a dozen games that I do still play on a regualr basis, which is still a bit less than in '95, because I also own a lot of other consoles, both new and old now, so my playtime is spread out more over them all. The bottom line is that if you've only saved a game on a cart say, 200 times since you've owned it, then you probably still have about 90,800 saves to go before it wears out. IIRC. It's not like they run on a battery that will run out of power or anything...I doubt I've saved more than about 25 times at the most, even on the carts I've played a lot. So I figure that eeprom may last me the rest of my life, maybe longer...correct me if I wron T-bird, or am remembering what you told me wrong or something. Regardless, if I'm right or wrong, it doesn't mean the game won't still work, you just won't be able to save your progress anymore.
  19. you only need 10502pc cable for making real atari disks out of .atr images and .pro images (which regular sio2PC cable&APE software can do), as long as you just use the PC to load the games you want to archive back into the XE, you don't need the 10502PC. You do need the drive to make the archives, but not the 10502PC cable.

    What if...

it won't be forgotten, just like other classic systems that have been around since the beginning, have not been forgotten and have their fan bases and new hombrew software coming out; Intellivison, colecovison, Vectrex, Odyssey2, 2600, 5200, 7800, TG-16, the list goes on and on and is actually growing with these classic systems and new stuff coming out for them. It's been 8 years already since the Jag officially died, and it hasn't slipped into oblivion yet, many a game and demo has been released in those years, even more are in the works/coming. There are now more underground developers doing things of all sizes, large and small, than ever! There will always be a core fanbase, I'll always be one of those at the center of it, and am myself, getting into developing new products for the Jaguar with others...in ten years, there may be an even larger fanbase and development base as more becomes available and as the system truely becomes a classic like the older counterparts listed above...IMHO.
  21. While your certainly entitled to your opinions, and I'm not offended (those pictures certainly are funny!), I would like to say that I am in support of our president and his decisions and our troops, just like the other 77% of the country in the current approval rating polls! It's about time, as far as I'm concerned, that something was done about terrorism and evil regimes like Saddam's before more happened to this country than just 9/11! Not to mention the human rights for those living under his oppression in Iraq! Saddam is a murderer and a butcher, just like Hitler and the world needs to be rid of him. Especially before he becomes/became as poerful as Hitler did...I'm sure those weapons of mass destruction will be uncovered soon enough, some already have. What does it take? the actual use of said weapons and the destruction of far more human life than this war has caused before people wake up?!? This "monkey" is a far cry better, as far as I'm concerned, than that slimy slug of a president we had before Bush. By the way, I'm independent politically, so this isn't a democratic vs. Republican thing for me at all.
  22. from past experience etc, I think that Americans in general get offended very easily. The term Japanese American is wrong IMHO , if they were born in American they are just Americans, why try to split yourself from one people into many? It's like people I have chatted to say they are Scottish, when infact 4 or 5 generations ago there was a Scottish person who emigrated.. this does NOT make you scottish! Even AOL agree with this, as if you go into the american cat rooms on AOL in the UK, a small disclaimer pops up asking you to be careful what you say as "Our american cousins are easily offended". BTW this message is not intended to insult anyone and if you do find it insulting you need to develop a thicker skin Not insulted at all, just sadden by the fact that what you say is true with a lot of "nancy/panzy" american types, you know, the treehuggers and cowards and such, not all of us are easily offended, not all of us have fallen for that "politically correct" brain-washing crap either. I try to avoid using stereo-typical "slang" terms that might offend certain races and shall we say, persuasions, but that's where I draw the line. I go out of my way to be politically incorrect, just to try and balance things out. Far too many people these days are over sensitive to certain words..."retard or retarded" for example, it's a terrible thing to call some one who is "mentally challenged" (bah!) this these days, but for God's sake people, look the word up in a dictionary! it IS NOT a derrogatory word! I think it sounds a lot worse, and personally, I WOULD be more offended, if someone called me "X challenged," it's quite obvious that the person is going out of there way to try and not offend, which is even more absurd in itself! (NOW I DUCK TOO AVOID THE ONSLAUGHT OF "PANSIES") get over it! I don't really want to offend people, but it's just gone too far! "political correctness" is a joke in itself! I've never known any politician or anyone political to be correct! They are all corrupt and theives and liers to one degree or another! It's the nature of the profession, or else you don't last too long in the profession!
  23. There were plenty of FPS games, very much like we know them today, around long before Wolfenstein 3D! One that pops right into my head is 'Total Eclipse' which is on the ST and probably the Amiga and others, this was a TRUE FPS, you had a gun and went through pyramids shooting and it was also TRUE 3D, unlike Wolfenstein, although not textured, but true 3D polygons (solid shaded). But I too would agree that titles like The Eidelon and Rescue on FRactalus and even StarRaiders could easily be considered FPS, even if a gun wasn't right in front of you, and you weren't in corridors (except Eidelon, in which case you were in corridors, shooting at stuff, it just didn't show a gun, only a crosshair and dashboard). MidiMaze did come out before Total Eclipsethough...but T.E. is a genuine, Doom style, 3D FPS with corridors, rooms, different levels, stairs, doors and other stuff to open, gun to shoot, etc., etc. ID did not start the genre. Heck, Total Eclipse could easily be seen as a genuine forerunner to games like Tomb Raider too! All the elements are there for that genre as well, except it's in First, instead of third person. It was the 8 and 16-bit computers of the '80s that started just about every genre today, the 32+bit systems have only improved on previous concepts and ideas, they have rarely had somthing totally original come along, if at all.
  24. I wasn't aware of that "A and C" button trick... is it in both IS1 and IS2? I'll have to get it out and give it a try. Yes, both versions.
  25. Skylar always reminded me of Shinade O'conner (?-spelling), but luckily, Skylar isn't nearly as annoying, even in the 2meg version!
