  1. Well, if no one else has, I guess I will do it. I'll just be taking my caliper and measuring all the dimensions of the 1200XL's side cover and using those numbers to input into something like FreeCAD or TinkerCAD. What would really be cool is if I can figure out how to use the A8's ChromaCAD 3D and import it's models to an .STL or .obj file. Since ChromaCAD does the modelling in "slices" anyway, man, that would be cool to be able to use my Atari to design 3D parts for printing! Though I've barely started learning ChromaCAD as it is...maybe there is a way to export it's model files into something more standard. I guess I better dive into the ChromaCAD manuals and see if there is some resource within it do export the model files...
  2. What you describe is what is happening and what I call a "restart." It may not be completely rebooting, but if it has to check my w-fi connection each time, it's still quite annoying to have to go through this process when a TNFS site doesn't connect, so I drop those hosts that aren't reliably up all the time from my slots to avoid it in the future. I understand problems can occur at the host server that may cause them to go down once in a while, but the servers that seem to have on-going issues, for what ever reason, maybe the hosts just can't or don't have them running all the time for personal reasons, and can't be working most of the time, I don't want to bother with anymore. Especially since many are host servers just have redundant files on them anyway. (including my own SD card slot) which is why I asked, if someone has a public server, but for whatever reason, isn't regularly up day after day and week after week, that a schedule might be posted here, then I can add them back to my slots and just not try and connect when I know they won't work according to a schedule. The ones I have removed from my slots, including Mr Robot's, have been completely hit or miss as to their working, more often NOT working, unless I just have incredibly bad timing nearly every time I've tried them. I wish Fujinet would instead check all the host slots when it first boots and if any aren't connecting then turn those slots red then all the "wifi connect checks" can be gotten out of the way at the beginning and then those non-working servers could be avoided and not have to check the wi-fi every time I try to connect to a server that isn't running. It's quite the pain to go down a list of servers and have it do this three or four times when it can't connect to a server. So, I've started just deleting servers that aren't reliably up and running and I just don't bother with them anymore. I am hoping that this thread will provide more host servers I don't already know about, and maybe from a larger list I can find 7 host servers for my 7 slots besides SD, that are more reliably up and running and these annoying "wi-fi checks" can become a lot less often. If not, it is what it is and I'll live with what works reliably and forget those that don't. Or at least have a time-table post-it on my monitor to refer too for those that aren't suppose to be running 24/7.
  3. Oh, Ok. Of course the point of this thread is I wanted to start a full list of servers for Atari 8-bits right here, so no one needs to follow other links to other sites and lists of unknown hosts. I've been through all that and it is exactly why I decided to start this thread. I wanted people to post host servers that are known active servers for Atari 8-bits and if they aren't always available, when they are working, right here. I guess I wasn't clear enough in the thread title or first post, it's too late for me to edit now. Please, people, just known, working, servers that ATARI USERS can use with their Atari's and Fujinet, posted in this thread. And if you provide a host server that is not always working, possibly a schedule of when it is available? I've already entered and deleted half-a-dozen host servers from my Fujinet menu that worked when I entered them, but then I go back a day or week later and they are no longer available when I try them again, instead I get an error. I hate that as it forces Fujinet to reset completely which is quite annoying. Honestly I don't know why some offer publicly accessible servers if they aren't going to be working all the time. It's a waste of the user's time and host-list space. The mere four I listed are the ONLY RELIABLE servers I've found out of a list longer than the 8 slots available that I started with.
  4. Thank you. So, what part of that would you type in as the actual host? I'm guessing the part in parenthesis? But then why the PHP-TNFS? Just actual addresses please, so there is no confusion about what to enter on a host entry. Other names or I.D.'s or whatever don't matter here and can probably be seen once the user goes to the server anyway.
  5. Hey all, I searched the sub-forum and didn't see any list for TNFS host list, so I thought I'd start a thread with a list of known public TNFS hosts. I've noticed some come and go, sometimes they work, sometimes not, so maybe if you host a TNFS that is not always available maybe some days/times it is up and running would be cool too. Below is my current list of hosts I have on my Fujinet, there were several I deleted as nearly every time I try to use the there is an error and my Fujinet restarts, which bugs the hell out of me, so I just deleted them instead of keep trying and resetting. What I have listed are hosts that have been working reliably since I got Fujinet up and running a month or two ago. TNFS Host List: fujinet.online atari-apps.irata.online fujinet.pl Atari8.us
  6. Hey all 1200XL owners, I have a 1200XL that I'm piecing together. It was a motherboard I bought from Best or B&C quite a few years back as a back-up to my 1200XL. But after talking about it with @Timothy Kline a few years ago, he was nice enough to send me a 1200XL case that the mobo for was fully destroyed. So instead of a back-up mobo, I decided to make it a fully working 1200XL. Unfortunately the case Tim sent me (thank you very much again Tim) didn't come with the side cover. So I need one, also, I need the interior shielding, at least the bottom part, the top part wouldn't be needed as upgrades would require it to be cut or removed anyway, but I really could use the bottom part just for proper grounding of the motherboard. So I thought I'd ask if anyone has either the side case part and/or bottom shielding before I venture into manufacturing my own. Which brings me to another question: Has anyone done a 3D printer design of the 1200XL side cover already? I'll be designing my own from scratch using the side cover from my other 1200XL if necessary, but if someone already has a .STL file for a 3D printer of it that would be great. I figure the chances of just getting a side cover and bottom shielding alone is slim, as generally people want to keep these parts with the others that go with them, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask before I move forward with my manufacturing plans for them both. I could also use a new tinted clear plastic cover that goes over the top of the function keys if anyone has an extra of it too. The one I have broke in half, still usable, but a new one would be nicer. But that's not a main part I'm concerned with. I'm pretty sure I checked with B&C (MyAtari) and Best E. a few years back about these parts and they were sold out. I'd just put this 1200XL on a shelf to worry about later, until now. Some of the other recent 1200XL parts postings made me decide to drag her out and see if I can get her fully restored/finished again. I know @bob1200xl has stuff you've said, so I figure I'd tag you just in case Bob, but I haven't wanted to bother you directly as I suspect/assume you only want to deal with whole 1200XL's and not separate bits and pieces, but if you happen to have any of these as extra bits for some reason, please reply. Or if one of your ugly, damaged and yellowed 1200XL's is available for a reasonable price that include these parts, I'll take one.
  7. One of the things I really like about this WIP is there are backgrounds. Most Atari platform games lack backgrounds and are generally black or just colors, like the recently released Albert. Actual scenic backgrounds, no matter how simple, are a rare breed on the Atari. Crownland has them, and few others. Parallax backgrounds are even rarer on platformers. Scrolling platform games were also rare at one time, but we seem to be getting more of those, so that is nice.
  8. I remember reading about the Exidy Sorcerer some years back, a very interesting machine as I recall. So, no case for it? I like the vintage calculator too, some may have noticed one sitting to the back next to my Indus GT drives in one of my pictures. It's a TI-2500B 'Datamath' calculator from ~1972-73. It has the old red illuminated (LED?) read-out. It matches the 800's system color pretty well.
  9. Here you go: http://www.atarimania.com/faq-atari-400-800-xl-xe-what-programs-are-designed-to-work-with-a-mouse_96.html
  10. Actually, I believe there is a full list at Atarimania in their FAQ.
  11. LOL! That's actually for the Starmaster joystick sitting on top of it; it has suction cups for one-handed pistol-grip action! I had an old mirror laying around and not an old pane of glass; it's screwed down to the desktop. The Starmaster and the Genesis controller next to it have both been converted to Joy2B controllers. I use both depending on the type of game and which works for me better with a particular game.
  12. Numerous GOS systems (Diamond, BOSS, ATOS, SAM) and versions of light-gun games from Europe where mice were used more with XE's, like Operation Blood, and several graphic art programs and I have a driver to move the cursor around with it when in standard E: screen mode too!
  13. Thank you. Just an STM1 mouse, painted to match the XL motif, it's perfect since XL/XE/ST's all had the same basic wedge shaped computers and the mouse was designed to match the ST. I used it 15 years ago with my 130XE and it was still grey. But I sold the XE and painted it to match my 1200XL. I cut down a mouse pad to fit perfectly on my touch-tablet to use as a mouse pad when I'm not using the touch tablet. just to conserve space and make it neater looking. The STM1 is high-res enough to work within the smaller touch-tablet space perfectly.
  14. Yes, it's a nearly daily chore with a feather duster and cleaning the stuff with a damp rag less often, but especially here in Oklahoma, there is always a lot of dust. I intend to get dust covers for everything. It's a labor of love. A full spring-cleaning and some repairs to the built-in desk and shelving is very near.
  15. I made a stand the same height as the 1200XL, for the disk drives out of wood and painted it to match the XL white, just like the stand the 1020 is sitting on in one picture. I actually posted a picture of it recently in another thread, I think one of the threads about 80-columns got derailed shortly with pictures of monitor stands. I have a stand now for my 800 too, not in the picture there (I'm always re-arranging and improving). Here's the latest pic of my 800 below (which now has Incognito, PokeyMax Quad+Covox, Sophia 2 and a PBI out the back with Turbo Freezer 2011 and port mods underneath and Fujinet!). My 1200XL is still set-up the same except the disk drive and 1020/1020 are now on opposite sides.
  16. Yes, that is true. Though I have the interior case of my 1084 monitor and PC speakers painted with a coating that blocks EMF/EMR's so I put my CRT monitor on top anyway. since I learned of the stuff in the early 2000's. The 1084 just has not been working now for a few years. I'll repair it one of these days, or find a good 14-15" Trinitron monitor and coat it too.
  17. Gotta try and keep up with the virtual-Jones's. They are all upgraded now and averaging divisor 7 speed.
  18. I read in one of the 80-column threads that the S.A.M. (screen aided manager) GOS has an 80-column calc program too. I like Syncalc and the entire Syn-series myself, enough to put up with 40-columns for them. But I use 80-column or 64-column where I can.
  19. I was thinking the same thing myself. I don't even use Atari Basic anymore, I mostly use Basic XE and then Turbo Basic for programs made with it. Everything I've run (which admittedly isn't much) for Atari Basic runs on Basic XE and usually about 2-3 times faster. Compiled Turbo Basic is even faster. Maybe someone should try compiling the game with TB compiler and using the run-time package?
  20. For me, first, the same thing as @DrVenkman, plugging the wrong power cord into a video converter box. I had an RGB to VGA and video to VGA, one is powered by 3.3V the other 5V. I plugged the 5V into the 3.3V device and fried it. $80 down the drain...I ordered another. I still have the original though, and it just needs a new transister so one of these days I'll get around to fixing it...when I need it, instead of buying another. Second, while trouble shooting and swapping IC's on my 1200XL I'd just done a PBI mod too, I swapped in a bad MMU I thought was good (partially working only it turns out) then I found out I had the source connection for PHI2 line for the PBI soldered to a wrong pin, fixed it, but still issues. I went over every PBI line about a dozen times trying to figure out where else I might have gone wrong or a bad solder connect or something. After hours and hours over many weeks, I finally remembered I'd swapped that MMU and inserted the original and everything worked! Lesson learned, if you swap something and it doesn't fix the problem, swap it back before moving on. Those are the only stupid mistakes I can recall atm. But of course I'm sure there were others. The fact is, with all the upgrades and mods I've done over the years, in the end, 99% of the time turned out to be some stupid and simple mistake and otherwise they were installed correctly the first time.
  21. Not my most current "set-up." but the way it was when this thread was started. It's basically the same now, just things rearranged. And certainly not all of it, I'd need a panoramic shot or more pictures. But I've posted many pictures in threads here and in an album on Atari Owner's Club site: https://atari-owner.com/club/media/albums/m-d-bakers-xl-command-center.5/
  22. I was just trying out Platoterm 1.4 on Fujinet last evening. It was my first time using Platoterm at all. I started off by doing the HELP (H) key and went into the 'Introduction to keyboard and function keys' tutorial. But when I got to the part of the tutorial, on page 4 or 5 where you have to do SUPER and SUB numbers that need to be entered correctly to continue, I discovered that the CONTROL-Y combination for a SUB does not work. The CONTROL-P combination for an SUPER does work. I don't know if that means the SUB-key CONTROL-Y combination doesn't work on Platoterm 1.4 at all or if it is a bug in the HELP tutorial or not. I just thought I should point it out and guessed it's a 1.4 issue and this would be the place to make it known. Is there a different, proper thread for Platoterm to point out issues or ask questions? I still need to watch the video above, I may find some answers in it.
  23. Ditto for me and my life experience on everything (except exchange baseball for motorcycles) you said there. Here is my CA-2001 GT clone. Originally all gray matching the XE line, but all parts were originally painted gray and it was all scratched up, I even had to fill in some gouges in the metal case before re-painting to closely match my XL peripherals. Though I've found a brown paint that better matches the dark XL brown now, so I may repaint the face plate.
  24. I see, I hadn't thought about some of the binaries coming from source formats that were only on tape, something that, like you said, mostly only Europeans are familiar with since in the states anything that did originally come on tape had disk versions released, except for unique stuff like Atari's conversational language series that needs the audio track. I am familiar with the Turbo tapes though, I did a DIY upgrade from schematics to my 1010 for both Turbo 2000 and the English Rambit variant.
  25. This is why I never got into offering repairs or upgrades as a service regularly. Over the years I'd done a few here or there for certain people, but almost every time there was some issue, it worked perfectly in hours of testing for me, but when they received it back, there was always something wrong. Sometimes upon the items return, it wouldn't work for me either, so something happened through between leaving and returning to my care. Sometimes it still worked fine for me when it was returned and then what could I do? So I only do stuff for myself. I can't imagine the headaches that some service vendors experience, my hat off to those that do, like @flashjazzcat, and hardware sellers like @Simius and @tf_hh. As a matter of fact, I've just gone through this looking at it from your perspective with my Sophia 2 upgrade. I couldn't get it to work, I sent it back toe @Simius, he gets it yesterday and it works fine for him. So now he's sending me a replacement and we'll see what happens. I'll get it working, but everything works fine when I re-installed the original GTIA, and still does, so I have to figure out whats going wrong when I swap in the Sophia 2. But this is just an upgrade I bought to install myself, not even one done by other's, but still, I caused @Simius time and trouble and extra cost for both of us. But being in his shoes before, I know his perspective on it as well. And I think most of us have seen @tf_hh 's thread on shipping troubles he been experiencing, which I was also included, awaiting my Indus GT sram upgrades from him for over two months and us corresponding due to it. Respect for what you go through guys. But I know it sucks for the customer too. Just remember that everyone's intention on both sides is usually honest and good in this community.
