  1. I gotta admit, I'm not digging on this game at the moment. I think the general slowness and clunkiness of the control has me a little disappointed. statically it looks very good but as it moves it loses some luster. hurts with the gameplay a little imho. it's the saving grace of the 2600 version that it's at least more responsive and fast when it looks nothing like arcade/cv true horizontal versions.

  2.

After reading gavv's comment, I bet the best is to save one or two crop rows as in Missile Command best strategy.

I would try the top or bottom rows because the edge of screen gives you a fast and precise way to line your shootings.

Well, I played only two games... So I may be totally wrong.

yeah, basically that missile command strategy, maximize all the bonus you can while you can still kill everything, horde the big blue ammo maniacly early on, then hang on as long as you can with the bottom row

  3. 109,650. Been going at this one pretty heavy past few days. Developed some nice point pressing techniques.

quite nice. point pressing is definitely pretty difficult in the 2600 version and you have to think about it differently than the more arcade-like versions (arcade, inty, coleco, where baddies climb up from the fallen ingredients rather than respawn randomly). It has different point distribution amongst the baddies than can be exploited, and the egg & tomato behavior make it tricky to get multi-drops consistantly (especially going right).

looks like i'll have to pull the cart back out again :)

  4. Its easy. First of all: Its normal that you cant go to the right edge more than that. And to start the game, you need to fire a normal shot. You use the lower side button for the rolling shot, which is limited and important to keep as many as possible (you see why when you play the game). But you need to press the upper side button to start the round, thats the normal shot, its unlimited.

    Have fun

huh, silly me, i played the entire game with just the upper button, not knowing there was anything but the normal shot ^^. oops :)

never having played it before, I do enjoy it, it's a nice melange of say Stampede with Centipede and Missile Command mechanics

  5. I literally am wearing mine right now in the office. I had totally forgotten about it when i ordered it, and it didn't arrive until Thanksgiving or so.

Instructions are for purely handwashing the shirt , so I have that to look forward to :P

  6. Thanks DZ I have download Rom I am just not a big fan of playing on the computer. But I will get my score in after Christmas. do you have a prize for lowest score LOL. Thanks again.Have a Merry Christmas .

I will say, that using one of the solutions available (I use the ultimate pc controller interface that intelligentvision made) for when i need to use jzIntv with original controllers, is really really nice and works very solidly. highly recommended

That's right! We built 100 units of each game and sold a fraction of that. CGE was a lot of stress. It was a lot of fun as well, but for the most part I was in a daze, overwhelmed by the excitement of releasing of the game, and then by the frustration of finding the bug.

I recall David Warhol playing Christmas Carol with a smile on his face. That was really nice. However, I also recall D2K being the star of the show. Mostly people came to play D2K and stuck around to play Christmas Carol. :) Overall, it was a great experience.

    -dZ.

I think the show is fine as it is with it's lengthiness. It might go a tad too much at a time if it starts getting into the RgR monthly length though :).

I think CC just doesn't/didn't demo too well (for me at least) when i tried it at CGE12. It seemed nice but didn't grab me. It took multiple games playing for this year's contest (still need to submit) that the gameplay and design clicked for me. That and I'd already picked up D2K and Space Patrol while at the booth and needed to stretch the funds further. (Those drinks at margaritaville don't buy themselves!)

  8. When i was a kid I didn't have intellivision, but had three friends who all lived on one small street by me who were the only intellivision families in the neighborhood (and believe me all the kids in the neighborhood all had mental maps of all the houses, who had VCS, who had Intellivisions, who had the occasional Odyssey 2, and the one guy that had a Coleco). I'd say the biggest played Inty games by far were Baseball, Football (same group of about 6-8 of us would all play backyard baseball & football then go back inside ), Burgertime, Utopia, Lock N Chase, Triple Action, Astrosmash, Microsurgeon, Night Stalker, & Tron.

Best holiday/christmas time memory for Inty. We annually played a backyard football game in the first big snow of the year , called the Slush Bowl (did it from like 79-86) where we'd play the game for real, then retreat for warmth and Intellivision. Most memorable game ended in 6 inches of snow while it was still falling, 77-70 the final score, and ending when a punt/kickoff ended up in the house's gutter and we couldn't get it out. Ended with frozen faces playing competitive Biplanes and rebels-enabled Utopia matches. For a ten year old a pretty awesome day.

I didnt see or touch an Inty in over a decade until I started listening to things like shane r monroe's retro gaming radio in the late 90s and learned about twin galaxies and was curious how well my (in my memories) best burgertime scores would stack up, and that got me to pick up my first ever Inty. I don't collect with zeal like most here, but i do have ~115/125 loose at this point.

  9. SoCal Mike was interviewed on Intellivisionaries ep 2 promoting Retro, plus any number of times on Mike's own Retrogaming Roundup podcast I suppose. It'll be available via subscription outside of the kickstarter backers, as kickstarter allowed him to get the project moving forward to be able to guarantee being able to properly compensate the writers (who are an impressive lot).

  10. This is the type of feedback I need! Thanks.

We have the technology to fix it :) I added 3 ladders. How does this look for an updated level 7? I want you to love the Intellivision version more than the arcade. This is one port that I believe is better than the arcade.

Level 7 doesn't need any baby-helpin ;) (i keed I keeed ). It's definitely not possible to clear level 7 without use of lives or peppers but that's what the other six levels are for, building up bank. You should rarely need more than either 2 lives 1 pepper or vice versa to get through level 7, more than 2x that for level 14, etc. Key is getting the start pattern right, to get all the enemies following you either clockwise or counterclockwise around the levels 'loop' of the center, and don't leave any of them circling back the opposite way to pinch you off

  11. If there was only one minor gripe on the Intellivision version it would be that the enemies don't stay grouped together after you drop them on a bun. And it's harder to group them together as well. But i guess that's what makes the Intellivision version unique. I have seen some videos on Youtube on grouping the enemies and they can get scores in the Millions. But then again i guess you could say those versions are easier and wimpy because of those tricks. lol

Grouping is definitely harder, but not impossible. They have some randomness to how they come out of a drop, but the layouts of the levels are such that you can time enemy paths so regrouping is achievable. I've specialized in the Inty version and the last game I played was about 508k ending at board 19, where my board 1 score was 54,500. It takes a lot of 4000 drops and being able to regroup them effectively. When they start throwing in more pickle randomness in late levels it gets harder to group but you can still pull off 8000 drops. By the time you get past three loops of 7, it becomes insanely hard. I've only gotten past board 22 maybe once. Key is maximizing points on the first loop of 7.

On the other hand, the Colecovision version handles well, has more arcade-perfectish levels, and is immensely easier to score big as they don't diverge much after a drop. I've rolled past a million on all speeds of that version. (CV version also has a glitch that can end your game after a couple hundred thousand unless you avoid certain situations).
