  1. No one mentioned FF Tactics for the PS1?!?!?!

That's one of the best games ever!!

Also, I second the Advance War series and Vandal Hearts. I have FM3, but never got around to playing it.

Rebelstar for GBA is pretty good, too.

Tactics Ogre is a much better game than FF Tactics. FF Tactics just happens to be Final Fantasy themed. Otherwise it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is.

  2. I'm sorry to hear about the disappointment with Disgaea. I only paid $7 CIB so it's still worth it. I guess I'll be putting off getting Disgaea 2 though.

It's not a bad game or anything, it's just not for everyone.

    Tempest

Disgaea is a pretty decent game but if you've played one Nippon Ichi game you have a good idea of what they are all like.

  3. Golden Axe Warrior did come out in the US. It's extremely uncommon though.

Yeah - I bought it when it was new. I later purchased a "PAL" version on Ebay which works just fine. Paid a lot less because people assumed it wouldn't work. :-)

Love Golden Axe Warrior. I've owned three different SMS systems and always have GAW.

I picked it up in the late 90s for around 30.00 used. To me it's just another bad Zelda imitation with the Golden Axe franchise tag attached. But... I love Zelda so it was worth picking up.

  4. The second problem is it's hard for a modern gen game. As many gamers are aware, games have progressively gotten easier over the years. Mario Sunshine is a substantially tougher game than 64 and much much tougher than Galaxy.

See I thought just the opposite. I had a devil of a time with Mario 64 but had no problem with Sunshine.

    Tempest

Did you play Mario 64 on N64 or on DS? On DS it was harder to control. On 64 it was pretty easy short of the flying levels.

N64 version on the Wii with the classic controller. I think most of my problem was with the camera more than the actual levels.

    Tempest

Without the C buttons for the camera on the Wii classic controller, I'm guessing that the camera is likely harder to control. On an actual N64 controller it's a lot easier. Remember that controller was basically designed for that game.

On a side note, the DS version of SM64 is definitely harder since the controller isn't analog and there is no camera buttons.

  6. Sucked is a massive exaggeration. It's an average 92% ranking on Game Rankings http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/533287.asp?q=sunshine

But it's not as good of a game as 64 or Galaxy. The main reasons are as follows. First off, all of the levels are tropical themed. This seems like a good idea at first but the theme grows old after a while. The second problem is it's hard for a modern gen game. As many gamers are aware, games have progressively gotten easier over the years. Mario Sunshine is a substantially tougher game than 64 and much much tougher than Galaxy.

Anyway, assuming you own a Wii you would need a Cube controller and memory card. You can buy third party products cheap (maybe under 20.00) for a small card and a controller if you shop around. And I think it would be worth it to pick that stuff up simply because it gives you access to all the GameCube library of titles.

  7. Phantasy Star - probably the most commonly sought-after game for this machine, a great Japanese style RPG which spawned a series.

Golden Axe Warrior - Zelda style adventure game

Ultima IV - An American RPG. I think this is the most accurate console port of any Ultima. From what I've played of it, it's truly a legitimate port of the computer version of Ultima 4, just adapted to not require a keyboard. Very different from the NES version (which is also good, but not accurate).

The last 2 games are both PAL releases, but from what I've read they will run on an NTSC console. Playing them that way causes the music to play too fast, but when I tried it in an emulator I didn't find it too annoying.

  8. Hi all, I just joined this forum to ask your help :)

Alright, so we have one of these.

I want to hook it up with my good old Super Nintendo! Today I spent over AN HOUR trying to figure out how to make it work. :( All I have is this cable that came with the console many years ago. Seriously help me out :( Also, the reason I managed to spend an hour on this is we have 2 DVD players and a digibox connected to our TV so I tried every possible cable combination there is.. Well, I probably didn't but ehh.

    RF_Switch_Front_%20_Back_klein.jpg

Also, if I buy an american SNES from Ebay, will it work on our TV? I mean aren't TVs the same everyone these days, so the fact that it's NTSC shouldn't matter? My memory really doesn't serve me well here.. I'm interested in fulfilling one of my dreams, which is playing Super Mario RPG on a console.

    snes_back.jpg

That's what the SNES looks like from the back. Tips, anyooone! It's beyond me why it won't work when I simply connect the console and the TV with the cable. :grrr:

I'm guessing you have no open composite slots on your TV, you would need a multi game switch to hook up your DVD player and other devices to the TV like this. http://www.familysafemedia.com/4_device_au...o___game_s.html

If your TV has no composite slots at all you'd need to run the video through another device or use RF.

  9. I have a nearly complete EGM collection from about 1989-94. However many of them have ripped covers etc. They're beat to hell and sitting in a box in my storage locker.

I didn't necessarily get them all when they came out either. There was a bookstore in a mall that had tons of old issues. I don't have some like the 1988 Video Game Buyers Guide. But I have most, unfortunately they're beat to hell and not at all organized.

  10. Spy Vs. Spy is an awesome game. It's also a great 2-player game.

i remeber that one being pretty fun on the NES

I remember there being a Spy vs Spy on an island that never came out.

Anyway, the NES one was fun but you could just lock yourself in a room with traps all around and it became impossible for the CPU or other player.

Yeah but if you lock yourself in a room then it is impossible for you so why would you want to do that.

You wait to kill him, he can't get to you. Wait til he accidentally opens the door.

  11. Trying to build my own cart of The Goonies for the NES. Found the correct rom to use but still can't get it to work. Is there a wire I'm supposed to put in there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're trying to play it on an original NES you're going to have trouble due to the lockout chip.

  12. Nah, it just means that arcades are dead.

    Hi:

No, argument here. For us Americans that is. But I was told that the arcades are still quite strong in Japan & Europe.

    Anthony....

Ehhh, they're doing better in Japan than here, but there is still a steep decline. The influx of home music games in the past 5 years has really taken its toll on the Japanese arcade market. It's almost entirely novelty games (IE games that use something beyond a joystick) these days.
