I'm starting to get back my old chops I used to have in my gaming prime back in the 80s, I just now reached level 3 out-of-the allotted 8, I figure she plays better with the CX52 because currently my CX24 I prefer to use with my 7800 Redemption 5200 is having issues and needs to be traded in for 2 Best Electronics-modded ones so I don't have some issues with not being able to move left on some occasions (bubble contacts on my CX24 are wearing out on me), I already lost one of my fire buttons on one of them, I have 4 of them, all ordered brand new (deadstock NIB, through the now-defunct videogames.org on eBay back about 15 years ago), but at least I now know that when that dreaded Qotile turns into a very aggressive swirl (more aggressive than in Yars' Revenge was and certainly faster on this port) I know I need to retreat and/or get behind the Ion zone and ready my photon cannon on it once I touch it (or eat enough shield). so I can blast it into oblivion.
I'll eventually be back to being the (almost) master class gamer I was in 1983-87, on both the 2600 and 5200 soon, and eventually complete all 8 levels, but be warned that it's not as easy as Yars' Revenge was on the 2600, not by any means, if you don't believe me, try it out for yourself, of course more practice will do me good, but I was just wondering how far you guys are getting on it.

How far along are YOU guys on Yar's Strike???......

Just now, TIX said:Aha ! no wonder I didn't found anything to edit, when I investigate the rom for a sprite hack 😏
I'm definitely interested to try my hand on the monsters !!
...and please incorporate some sort of voice in her so we can hear it just like in the arcade version, Berzerk couldn't go without it, and neither should this.

bump. I have already PM'ed @wt808 letting him know I'm serious about getting one done for me, but, with a 4-port BIOS onboard, much like my current 2-port Big Sexy has on her, as well as letting him know I already have my Atarimax SD multicart ready to use on her provided he can do this, he could be just like @edladdin only for flash units, we can't count on AtGames to come up with one, so this is THE way to go.

Wizard Of Wor IS STILL great even now, 36 years after getting the original CBS cart in which I now have the ROM file of but obviously one of the better games you will find for Big Sexy. BTW, I never knew the arcade version had a voice on her, perhaps maybe someone can homebrew (or hack) the original to include a voice and their own share of other tidbits to make it more truer to the arcade version, but it's still a great port.

Got the idea now, I control the joystick part of my CX52 with my left hand while using my right hand to fire my disc with the keypad, a little awkward but I got the idea after a few minutes, there's still no audio, and I don't die or get injured yet, that has to be worked on next and then it'll be almost just right. Thank goodness for my Best Electronics-modded CX52 the gold contacts will never let me down, and they play out perfect for this
As for the keypad, here the directional firing key:
1 = diagonal up left
2 = up
3 = diagonal up right
4 = left
5 = not used
6 = right
7 = diagonal down left
8 = down
9 = diagonal down right
*, 0, # = not used
fire buttons = not used

There are separate episodes for each the 2600 Edition and 5200 Edition, they are broken up into separate playlists, and the episodes are numbered for each playlist, tomorrow I will be filming episodes 9 of each the 2600, and 5200 Editions, respectively
Thanks!!!

Just downloaded, I like the way it's coming along so far, except there's no collision detection, and I can't shoot my disc at any enemies yet, I have the newest rom. I can't wait for the next rom release, but great job overall.
Pretty soon I'll be able to give a review on The Atari Report, in which I'll be filming my customary 2 episodes (one for the 2600 and one for the 5200, of course) for this week and have those up on The Atari Report YouTube channel, I will be filming them tonight after I clean myself up after Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final is over.

Anybody want to (at least) download the roms and start working on one (or at least try to) make a 5200 version of Food Fight???
-
I at first tried to use the 5200 hooked up straight to an Insignia NS-DXA3 digital-to-analog converter box with an HDMI output thinking I could use it as a tuner for my 5200 to my Sony STR-DE590 a/v home theater receiver and from there to my Insignia TV's HDMI input, didn't work, as I found out later on that the converter box only does DIGITAL television signals, no analog, unlike my Insignia TV which does both (a 2016 model).
So I got real and got myself a near-new Sony SLV-N51 Hi-Fi 4-head VCR and simply used it as an analog tuner (channel 3 through the coax, it also has two sets of composite a/v inputs as well, one up front and one in the back) and hooked up the a/v output to my TV's composite a/v inputs, with the audio piped from its headphone jack set to line out mode to my receiver's CD input. It actually gives a better picture quality through the VCR's analog tuner than the TV's own coax does, either digital or analog channels, I tried both.
As for the Insignia NS-DXA3, it is currently my digital tuner (hooked to the rooftop antenna here at Bishop Park and fed to the HDMI out) and it seems like it too, gives me a much better picture quality that the TV's own coax input does.

I think it would be a great game for Big Sexy, I don't get why R&D at Atari Inc./Atari Corp. never thought about doing one for her when the arcade version came out, they both take advantage of full 360-degree movement and the stock analog controller would be absolutely perfect for it.
NOTE: There already is a port for the 8-bit computers and as soon and I found the ROM for it maybe @playsoft @Ryan Witmer or @Wrathchild can convert it so we can enjoy it too, @playsoft already did Yar's Strike, he did the new-smash Star Island that I most recently reviewed so why not Food Fight???
-
Any rom available for this? I couldn't find one in the links posted. I would love to play it on my Flashback 9 or Harmony Encore and review it for The Atari Report - 2600 Edition someday.
...and yes, Martina will get full credit for it as I always do for all original programmers on every review.

Hey guys,
I heard from Dennis @DEBRO himself after he saw my review and he wanted to chime in on my clip, here's his quote:
"Seeing this...I wish I went with the original speed which was based on 7800 version of Ms. Pac-man. The final speed was decided based on feedback from members of the AtariAge forums."
- Dennis Debro
So it proves that WE, here on the forums, have a great influence on programmers and they depend mainly on our output on their works.

5 hours ago, patroclus99 said:How did you get the job for Yars' Revenge? Did Atari need a clone of Star Castle and you simply came up with a better game?
"Yes, I was the next person on the list to get an assignment and Atari needed a Star Castle clone. I went back to them and said "I don't think this is going to work." But I analyzed the game and found what I thought was fun about it. I reconfigured it and made a few modifications in a way that would work on the 2600. And they were cool about it because there weren't to many arcade hits at the time and Star Castle wasn't all that."
-Howard Scott Warshaw, Atari Times
I couldn't make it out clearly, but it seems this version sounds really authentic. I always like how this game sounded in the arcades, and it was pretty fun to play.
Well, if Howard Scott Warshaw is reading this, or, if one of his publicists gets his attention, ge may want to check out @Thelen's 8-bit genius version of it as converted for the 5200 by @playsoft himself, Yar's Strike. Even HSW himself would be amazed at how much more difficult it is than his original, especially since the Qotile keeps moving up and down the game screen and that the shield covers the entire right side of it, you can view my review on the 5200 version (Episode 1 of The Atari Report, my series debut episode) right here:
....and you can download either the @playsoft 5200 version and/or the @Thelen 8-bit original version of that game right here by clicking the downloads below. Howard Scott Warshaw would be proud to give an official endorsement for this one.

......and don't forget to subscribe to my 2 other YouTube channels,
my official Ray Jackson YouTube channel

and also, BIGHMW TV On YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/user/BIGHMWOfficial
Of course, they'll be some major changes to both of those channels as my assorted miniseries on BIGHMW TV (What's In The Closet?, Ray's Rants, Loyalty To Royalty, etc.) will all be moved to the Ray Jackson channel with my live work as The Heavy Metal Warrior (with my old hardcore/thrash band S.M.F., 1995-2002) and as rapper AK47 remaining on BIGHMW TV, those changes will be made later this week.
