Well my parents finally threatened to take my games away
kroogur replied to STICH666's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm glad some other folks are pointing out that "the old ways" of discipline meant something other than abuse. There is a fine line between abuse and corporal punishment and what my grandmother did to me was not abuse it was my fault as I had been getting more out of line as most kids do and she brought me back to reality. Hitting with a closed fist or bruising or drawing blood is abuse and not acceptable. As i mentioned before some kids are intelligent and or mature enough that verbal warnings, groundings, and discussion of the problem is enough but sometimes you get kids who will not respond to anything less than physical correction. When I was growing up these were rules not just for me but for all the kids in the neighborhood: Until i was 18 I had to refer to all adults as Mr./Ms./Mrs. Smith never by the first name. You had to ask permission to set foot on someone else's property (to retrieve a ball etc...) there was no running through peoples yards. Profanity was not allowed period until age 18. If we acted up in school the nuns would punish us and when we got home we got punished again because we acted up in school. If we were shopping no running,no screaming, and absolutely no touching or picking up merchandise. -
Speaking of scum sucking a-holes how did you know I got another jobs as a mechanic?

I lost my job back in April and I finally got a new one and start tomorrow, why am I telling anyone this? because while sitting around waiting for callbacks for interviews I played alot of games and one thing that was nice about playing those games was the escape from the fear, slight depression and stress that I would not be able to find work it made me feel better by taking my mind off it all! Now that I have work the same applies I come home after a hard day at the job and I just want to relax and get away from it all. Except that I can't.....why? Because some %$^@$#^% at XYZ Game Company puts freakin commercials in my ^%$^%$# game! Thats just what I need to take my mind offa things! more crass commercialism..... I just paid $60 for the stinking game and I just want to enjoy it but I can't because even though they already got my money they continue the commercial assault and this is the absolute worst due to the game actually stopping to load and play this garbage if I had State Farm Insurance i'd be on the phone right now canceling my policy. *btw I'm not being grumpy with you Underball, i'm just venting about the ads in games.*

Probably due to the low tech graphics i suppose. And the systems ability to swap out the "games" by changing the screens.

Maybe fiber optic lights on the spikes and a built in lava lamp?

Sorry but slapping a kid in the face just for lying is totally out of line. Thats how it was done in the old days and I turned out fine as did millions of others. I see children every day running around like maniacs breaking things, screaming, misbehaving etc.. and the parents do nothing because they are either too lazy or too scared to do anything about it. -

How does it make you a bad person if she has been a bitch towards you? The key thing here is you may think it to yourself but you do not say that is disrespectful and that is what makes one a bad person I'm just trying to understand this attitude which most Americans have. It doesn't seem to be the same way over here in Britian. I can't speak for Britain but the attitude you mention is certainly carried over from Europe my grand parents and great grandparents on my mothers side came from Poland and children were taught their place early on My family on dads side German, Irish, an Scottish and again children were taught their place in life early on and it usually meant heavy handed discipline if needed the neighborhood I grew up was heavily ethnic (Polish) and thats how my friends parents were raised and we were raised And it seems as though you think a dad knocking his son through the wall or hitting him (which is child abuse) for doing so is a good thing. Parents will know their children and what works for discipline things like grounding, time outs, talking the problems out etc... that works on some kids. With other kids the only thing they seem to respond to is corporal punishment and If that is whats needed then it should be the parents right to use it. Speaking for myself my folks divorced back in 1975 or so and my grandmother and mother raised me (mostly gram because mom had to work) And I can remember the one time I lied to my grandmothers face and she knew I was lying she slapped me so hard i thought my teeth on the right side of my mouth would be crooked. That slap did not hurt me nearly as much as when I realized that I hurt her by lying to her after all that she had done for me that hurts me more that the physical pain ever did. -

This is true! If I ever get the skills maybe I could program it Pittsburgh style and when it powers down it would say "Game over yinz jag offs" and for start up instead of the roar it would say "Game on an 'at" and of course the voice would have to closely match the late great Myron Cope!

Thanks for the suggestions! Raiden and Missile Command look like great additions for my collections, sadly i'm not much into motorcycle/racing games and I'm keeping my eye on the Chuckwagon and Ebay sites.

I just moved into a new place and have limited room so I have been swapping my consoles out of storage. I just dragged my Jag outta the mothballs and well dang if it ain't everybit as awesome as I remember! I got in about 3 hours ago and have been playing nonstop. I'm not totally in love with the Jagpad but I have been having a blast. I am disappointed in my amount of games as I thought I had more but all I could find was: Alien vs. Predator Wolfie3d Cybermorph Troy Aikman Football Dino Dudes Tempest 2000 Iron Soldier What are the cheaper games that I should be on the lookout for?

Nah the profile is all wrong for either RT or MJ it actually looks like Richard Moll....anyone checked up on him lately?

what game or games made you ask for or go out and buy a 2600/VCS

I just wanted an Atari period so after much pestering on my part I finally found a 2600 system nestled under the Christmas Tree! that was probably 78 or 79. -

Here is a review of one of those units: http://www.youtube.com/user/ashens?blend=1.../31/x00RgdSkt50 it starts about halfway in. Based on the description in the auction it looks like you get 5 of those horrible things

Excellent topic! Personally I reach a saturation point where after I have accumulated many different games and systems without really playing them I settle in on one game or system that enjoy and will usually be content with that for months sometimes years. Then pretty much at random I will lose interest then go to a different game or system. For example I recently got back into the NES/SNES systems and have really been enjoying them, however I always come back to Atari no matter what. As for the systems I want there are a few: Vectrex Bally Astrocade Arcadia 2001 RCA Studio 2 And Computer wise: Mattel Aquarius There are two things keeping me from owning those systems. #1 I am notoriously cheap and even though I realize they are hard to find systems there is the nagging part of my brain saying "That stuff is ancient tech and obsolete tech should only cost pennies on the dollar". And #2 They are somewhat hard to find not only in proper working condition but also in complete condition.

$12 loose is borderline but not horrible for this game. If you were a fan of the cartoon and pac man in general then it's a cool little game for what it is. I bought mine when I bought my first Lynx system at Babbages and for years never got into it until recently and I have to admit it's a fun little game and a nice addition to my Lynx collection.

Gopher.....without a doubt ....Gopher. Something satisfying in a Carl Spackler kinda way when you clobber that lil fuzz covered geek with the shovel.

Glad you're back! I hope you and the Bean are feeling better? -
Welcome to the boards! There is quite a bit that has been going on with Atari so I would agree with Lord Thag's suggestions and just explore the site a bit. And as for the spider it can be a bit tricky but it is shootable (made up word but it applies)
