Will do! It's been awhile since I used a Sony controller the Dualshock 3 is nice and I like that it can be recharged but it seems too small for my hands, I liked the heft and feel of the 360 controller. Any recommendations for aftermarket controllers?
-
I think the reason I like it is because the focus is along the middle of the screen and you simply scroll left/right and up down with simple icons. On the 360 they have that kinda 3D fade back at an angle interface and the up/down selections are at the top left thats kinda hard on my old, welding flashed, chemical splashed and spark burned eyes

Lol yeah I couldn't resist the Foreman Grill sight gag.

Thanks to the kindness of a relative I have a PS3 to replace my 360. My initial thoughts are it's about on par with the 360, I actually like the interface a bit better than the XBox's and so far the only game I have is Oblivion GOTY edition and the graphics seem to be a bit more sharp and the colors a little more vibrant. The only grievance I do have is the 1 year warranty I may be gun shy due to my recent experience with the 360 but it still would be nice if Sony offered an extended warranty. And the other thing I noticed was a eerie similarity to another system currently in my stable:

Very cool thanks for sharing that! I liked this place too: http://aparofansworld.blogspot.com/2009/02...palace-ads.html -
It's mostly an overheating issue the design is not conducive to good ventilation and the cooling fans do not seem to be much help, My first one died from the overheating issue and my current one developed an internal fault where it no longer recognizes the hard drive. A nice feature on my PS3 is that if it starts to overheat the red and green led's will start flashing alerting you to shut it down and let it cool off before anything bad happens.

I really enjoy the monday night chats it's a nice laid back chat and the coolest topics do come up frequently! Not a bad way to spend a monday night/tuesday morning(for our friends across the pond) -
Yes i noticed when i put in for the repair the only options are print label or they will send a label. I'm half tempted to ship it in the box my PS3 came in but with my luck they will return it with anchovy paste instead of grease on the heat sinks

Congrats!

I think some games look a little better on the PS3 then the 360. Honestly though, it's only REALLY noticeable in a few games IMO. Sony network certainly doesn't have an edge over the Live network. The console seems much more reliable though. At least compared to the older 360 units. Thanks for the info. I may be getting a PS3 soon (due to the kindness of a relative who feels bad because i was laid off from work even though i said it's not necessary) I just thought I would ask here because I know i will get honest answers and opinions.

Here we go again My first 360 RROD'ed about 24 hours after I bought it. The replacement did not even last a year as it just died a few hours ago.... It didn't RROD this time though. This time it quit detecting the hard drive! So now it's my turn to do the exchange thing hopefully the third time will be the charm. Other than blue ray does the PS3 have any technological edge over the 360?

I would definitely get an estimate from Penske and Budget i realize it's a hassle and things are painful right now but you have some awesome people here willing to help you or just lend a sympathetic ear and some words of encouragement. Remember you have friends here and that can be a source of strength to help see you through. -
Has anyone ever gone looking for the Atari dumping site?
kroogur replied to gloriousconnor's topic in Atari 2600
As far as I know the original landfill has been closed and a new one is in use, so finding the original landfill shouldn't be an issue however even though it's no longer in use i'm sure it's probably a no trespassing type area and even if the city/county gave permission to go there they probably would not allow any digging. With that said I have sent the suggestion to the Mythbusters and tried to get others to do the same because if enough folks showed interest in it they would probably be the best option to get it done. -

I used the Irate Gamers vid because it was relevant to the thread and I personally did find it amusing, however as for the AVGN we will have to agree to disagree as I find him rather unpleasant. No worries though to each their own -

I tore down the system and cleaned and re-seated everything that could be cleaned and re-seated and still nothing although the start screens colors do seem sharper and less blurry. Did these things have issues with the keyboards maybe?
-
*update* So far things are not going well, I have the unit hooked up and it powers on and the start screen comes up with a "Press any key to start" message. After pressing the aforementioned key i get a "Press 1 to start TI Basic" which I do then it either goes back to the start screen or a "TI Basic is ready" message at the bottom of the screen at which point the system freezes. I have no peripherals connected just the console itself, is this thing toast or am I doing something wrong?

Greetings! Today I will take a look at the XaviX system. This is an interesting little gadget and it is somewhat similar to the Nintendo Wii, The console itself is called a Port and the games themselves are cartridge based which is a nice change of page for those of us that grew up with carts. The system had an original price of $129.99 which if this system was released in the mid 1990's it would have been great for what you get but in the mid 00's that price is a bit to much. I paid $29.99 for the starter pack which included the system and a baseball game, and additional games were available for a reasonable $19.99. The games offered for this system include Baseball,Tennis,Bass Fishing,Bowling and Golf the company also seems to offer some fitness oriented products for use with the system like a Health and Fitness manager and some Jackie Chan endorsed products like a set of boxing gloves and a J-Mat (think Wii Fit/Power Pad style device). This is not really a bad selection and for the reduced price are not a bad way to go if you don't want to commit to a large expense for a current gen system. The games come with an appropriately shaped controller that feels well built and easy to use the only gripe I would have is there is not enough visual feedback on the screen. The gameplay is ok not great but ok, The graphics will be the first thing you notice as they are not much better than the 16 bit systems of the early 1990's this is not really a bad thing as you are a bit more focused on the gameplay anyways. The controls for these games are ok but not great either. In Baseball you do not get a visual of the bat swinging so it's hard to know if you are even swinging and when I did connect with the ball it was usually a homerun and again I was not unhappy with this because at least it kept me interested. The Fishing game is rather enjoyable as the controller simulates a rod and reel rather well! and with tournament, free fishing modes and the ability to use different bait and lures as well as a nice variety of fish to catch this is a nice game! The controller is very well done in that when the fish strikes and is hooked you get a rumble in the controller and there is actually drag on the reel as you try to wind it in! Very nicely done. In all for a $50 dollar investment this is fun little system and I will likely try to pick up the other games, your results may vary but I am pleased with this system.

Thanks for the heads up about the sale! I picked up Baseball starter kit and the fishing game. I will be trying them out tomorrow! Sadly they only had the Tennis and Baseball starter kits and the only games they had were fishing and golf.

You could say that but i really enjoyed Lego Batman! tons of great characters to unlock and the ability to do missions as the villains makes this game shine!

The most I found was that this is a known glitch and at this time there is no fix or workaround. They suggest the 45 battle thing (which you did) then check the chests again (which you did) and if the items are still missing try a few other random battles and check again, if no good then sadly you will have to start over. I found this info over at Gamefaqs
