  1. Depending on things like space/money why not try to get both? They are both wonderful systems with lots of great games and are both worthy additions to and classic system collection. The 5200 had awesome games that are timeless classics and after getting the controllers rebuilt with the good stuff from Best Electronics it is a very enjoyable system. Try o get a two controller port model as it does not use the weird switch box that the four port model uses. And the 3D0 has many reat games like the ones already mentioned as well as titles like PGA Tour Golf and the interactive game show Twisted and a slightly better than SegaCD version of Night Trap!
  2. that's because the game would be impossibly hard. *l* It's a lot easier for kids to emulate burned out rockers who have drugged themselves retarded. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If they're going to get any more detailed with these games, they might as well start teaching kids how to actually play a guitar. At first I thought of a complex controller along the lines of the fisher price 'I can play guitar' toy. But then I figured it would be cheaper/easier to just plug a real one in like a microphone and test for the pitch off of it. combine that with users being able to create/modify the songs and we'd really get somewhere. Then online play would essentially be a jam session, and we'd have bands who have never seen eachother in person selling albums. The Banjo Hero game was just my pitiful attempt at humor I think i'm the only person in the tri state area who even know who Flatt and Scruggs are (I still wouldn't mind learning to play banjo though) but you do have an excellent idea to use the game to teach folks how to really play!
  3. When i have friends or coworkers over for a visit my 2600 gets alot of "man i used to play the hell outta mine back in the day" or they can't get over the sheer bulk of the 5200 and how it dwarfs my XBox or the "what the hell is that?" effect when they see the Microvision or my Bentley Compuvision.
  4. I think anything is possible the only concern would be marketability, would enough people buy it? Personally I have been waiting for Banjo Hero: Flatt and Scruggs World Tour Edition but so far my requests to the manufacturer have gone unanswered.
  5. Right now i'm doing the unemployed thing but I am interested, i'll let you know when funds are available.
  6. I think Qix was a pretty unique game and I really enjoyed the concept.
  7. This is an easy one! Captain Lou Albano! :rolling:
  8. Please define nice Intellivision set? Are you looking for complete boxed console and games? Loose console and games? I have a couple few Intellys in storage, I could dig them out and see what they look like and what extra carts I may have.
  9. If everything is in working order as it states then I think you did good!

    why the bad rep?

It's a fact that they were unreliable and a bad design from that standpoint. But it's opinion whether once fixed (Best Gold etc) that they're bad. That's the distinction. One is arguable, the other isn't. That's the definition between fact and opinion. If it's my opinion that once fixed, they're nice controllers, and I like them, you can't argue with that, it's my opinion. Oh I definitely agree with you there once fixed they are fine. My angle is they shouldn't need to have to be fixed in the first place and the extra expense and hassle of either rebuilding them yourself or sending them to Best is just a bit off putting for someone new to the system who is excited and just wants to play right away.

    why the bad rep?

The controllers are in fact absolute garbage. As evidenced in just this thread alone nearly everyone chimed in with their displeasure with the controllers. I have systems ranging from my Odyssey2 to Fairchild to NES to 3D0 all the way to Wii and everything from 2600 to Jaguar and I have the original controllers for all of them and after all these years and gameplay they all still work fine except for the miserable 5200 controllers they are the only ones I have ever had to rebuild. Hell i even found the old remote for my Phillips CD-i and it still works fine and it was roasting and freezing in my attic for years. It's not personal opinion to state the controllers are garbage it's fact and the history of these controllers back it up nicely, i dearly love my 5200 and i enjoy it quite a bit but if anything kills the enjoyment of the system it's those miserable controllers.
  12. And i do thank you for that! You at least gave folks an option to see and play the 2600 games that many would not be able to access otherwise.
  13. I had to get a HDTV because some text is illegible on the screens of my older sets when i play certain games on my XB360, I have 2 RCA sets one from the late 80's and one from the early 90's both work great for my older systems and my dad has an old Philco portable from when he got back from Vietnam i'm trying to get my hands on that one!
  14. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that logic and it is sound advice but there is a very fine line between "old" and "beaten into the ground" It sounds like your set has given you it's all I had a small portable set that I got from my grandmother, it was about the size of a basketball and it was the perfect size to use in my VW Camper Bus. Needless to say it was through hell and back by the time I got it and it served me well for years until the colors started going wonky, the reds got obnoxiously bright and fuzzy and it was just a mess. I took the cover of and tinkered with the adjustments and got it to look ok for at least another 6 months before a pothole sent it crashing into the fridge. With the recent glut of CRT televisions at the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores I have got a couple good sets it's a gamble sure as I have gotten a few duds but if the price is low enough it's worth it. Cool topic!
  15. Pac Man, E.T., Combat,Asteroids and Pitfall all seem to travel in a pack wherever i find Atari games.
  16. VCR?...That is sooooooo like 1980's.. (I kid of course) VCR aint a bad idea. Youtube itself has many offerings in tutorials for Video Game recordage here just one i found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftDb4E_Vf_s
  17. Well for the Oblivion fans there is this: and this:
  18. Games like Festers Quest, Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde,Renegade, and Swamp Thing(To name only a few) all wore the seal and while they may not have broken the system they certainly were capable of breaking the soul, the boundaries of decent gameplay, the will to live.... etc.... And i agree Blast Processing was a good one too!
  19. I loved my CD-i sooo much! it was everything they promised and so much more!
  20. XBOX FTW. Yep, I have the xbox version too. Unfortunatly, Shenmue 1 is never ported to the xbox Yea, but the Xbox version did come with that funky cutscene DVD movie! Sorry won't happen they didn't have that many good games that interested me That doesn't mean that the PS/PS2 weren't kick ass systems. It just means your tastes are different. You are correct. But my angle in this thread is folks like what they like and it's mostly a matter of opinion because the DC never saw it's full potential or it's successor so all we can really do is have opinions on this particular subject. Me personally I loved the Everquest series both on PC and the PS2 but thanks to one horrendously bad experience with Sony "customer" support I will not buy or support anything they do ever again because to me a product is only as good as the folks who back them up and they (Sony) failed miserably when it came time to help me as a customer.
