I am having a great deal of difficulty finding an Atari 2600 at a reasonable price, back on Dec 20 i won one on ebay and never received it, the seller does not answer his emails reliably and when i did get in touch he said "they" forgot to ship it and he would personally send it out last monday and it would arrive by wed/thur (Wisconsin to Pennsylvania) it never showed so i waited till saturday and sent one last message...no reply so last night i opened my first paypal dispute.
Question is how long should i wait if i get no reply from him till i escalate to a claim? And do i start one with Ebay too or is Paypal enough?

I took it to work and got them contacts shiny, i'll try it tonite. I had tried several different carts before and none worked.
One trick i did discover today was to take an old gift card and i wet down the end with alcohol and ran it in an out of the contacts and i removed a fair amount of crud

Has anyone had a problem with the Game Genie for the SNES not working anymore? I dug mine out of the mothballs and cleaned it and it will not work the game will either not load or the screen comes up glitched or frozen.
The code entry screen works fine and is crystal clear but when i hit start is when i have the problems.
I bought another Genie and it behaves the same.
Any ideas?

Haunted House on the Doom engine would be great but i was thinking more on keeping it an overhead view like the original and adding pop up scares while searching through the rooms of the house similar to The Haunting Starring Polterguy on the Genesis.
Yars Revenge would be also somewhat FPS style with the camera just behind the Yar and you fly through space the neutral zone between you and the enemy would be a wall of multicolored stars just dense enough to barely see through the floating cursor would take many shots to destroy but once killed would not return till the next stage.
Berzerk would be a combo cart with two exciting modes of play a FPS maze crawl with the ability to sneak around corners, and an overhead style that stars slow then gets insane fast as time goes on but you can get armor and weapon powerups to even the odds.

-Kaboom - OMG, how can anyone call this lame? It actually gets to be pretty zen at the higher levels - you really need to look through the bmobs falling if you expect to win.It goes back to the old sayings "One mans meat is anothers poison" or "Different strokes for different folks"
With that said Kaboom never appealed to me i found it to be to nerve wracking.
I never got into the side scrolling shooters either where as most folks love them, oddly enough i can sit and play games like River Raid or Xevious (not activision i know) for hours on end but i can't stand games like R-Type

Kaboom! I could never get into this game at all...i tried i really did.

Good for EGM! It's about time someone stands up to these companies as they have no problem producing lackluster titles and expecting top dollar for them.
In fact folks should start voicing their displeasure over the attitude these companies have send them email, snail mail, whatever it takes!
Would a list of contacts for these companies be a worthwhile project? To make it easier to send them our thoughts?

Actually this topic is called how does the 5200 compare to the NES? not "My Atari 5200 is the better system" as you suggested, and to further the point i started to make in the Jag thread systems like the PSX and Nintendo have benefited from long healthy sales runs of consoles and deep pockets in their marketing/development departments. The 2600 is the only system that Atari had that enjoyed a full healthy life and even that system has not reached it's full potential yet as evidenced by the Hacks and Homebrews for it.
Spend a little time as i have and read the posts that folks put up with samples and demos of their projects pushing the Atari/CV/ etc... to their very limits and you will see some incredible things, yes as far as history is concerned NES and PSX were giants in innovation and gameplay but what about their humble competitors? thats where the fine folks here that tinker and test with these systems are realizing that they could have been on par with NES and PSX but sadly they lacked the support to fully realize their potential.
And you are correct on another point this is a forum devoted to Atari so of course we will back our systems to the hilt (David and Goliath) we love our Atari
so it is only natural if you or anyone else come in and start boasting about the superiority of the NES ad PSX you will ruffle some feathers and rile folks up...but then i suspect you already knew that

I voted for Undertow just now, yeah i do find it odd Bioshock was left out.

Load times are of course subjective what i find unacceptable may not be as such to someone else, i realize that cartridges are instant but i also recall the load times being much better on my 3D0 than the PSX , great games? on the PSX? again subjective, i find that sometimes the unknown or the obscure titles can be much more enjoyable that the so called "Greatest Hits" on consoles like the PSX but i see we are off track so to help rectify matters let me offer this.
As to what a system is truly capable of we could perhaps look at the NES the early games were blocky and plain (Urban Champion anyone?) and yet by the end of that systems life span what games did we see? Super Mario Brothers 3, The Mega Man series with it's tight gameplay and crisp graphics, how did such a system with the lowly blocky graphics transform itself into the system capable of such games as SMB3 and the excellent Capcom titles? because the developers took time to understand the capabilities of the hardware and push it to it's very limits! The Jag never had such a chance as it lost support due to poor managerial choices and some admittedly lack luster games, what we have now are some very dedicated fans who realize the great power in the Jag console and are working to unlock it! give it a chance i think you and many other will be amazed!

There is one simple reason why i still prefer my Jag over the PSX and it goes something like this:
I think i'll play a game to unwind after a hard days work.
*Fires up PSX after removing 3 inches of dust from top*
Okay here we go! *pops in disc*
.....Loading
.....Loading
.....Loading
.....Loading
*goes to get sandwich*
.....Loading
Press Start!
.....Loading
.....Loading
.....Loading
.....Loading
*files paperwork to apply for social security*
Ok game on! *plays for 5 min*
......Loading
......Loading
......Loading
*touches up gray hairs forming in my beard with Grecian Formula*
Ok games back! *plays for 6 min*
......Loading
......Loading
*Rips PSX out of TV and hurls out the window into middle of street where it's promptly run over by a Bus*
Hooks up Jag or N64 or my trusty 3D0 hell i'd even take my Phillips CDi over the PSX
My point is i feel those in the know are correct the Jag could be a true performer! we need to give the fine folks who are devoting their valuable spare time to unlocking the Jag time to do it, once done i think we will all be amazed!
The PSX wowed me at first but i quickly grew tired of the unacceptable load times and it's inability to read discs that had even minor scratches whereas my 3D0 could play discs that look like the were chewed on by a wolf of all my systems the PSX gets zero attention now and has for years i just don't use it it's to slow.
As stated many times in this thread the thing holding back the Jag is the miserable 68000, work around that and i think this system would knock all kinda socks off! The homebrews would be nothing short of incredible!

Control on this game is iffy at best i often have to just keep moving the joystick in all directions to get and progress and be careful trying to jump across the stream controls are very touchy there.
-
Cool thanks! I sell every now an then on ebay and i usually ship either priority or use UPS as i know folks like to get their newly acquired treasures quickly.
From now on i'll make sure to request a better ship method.

I won an item on ebay on dec 20th paid on the 21st and have yet to see said item it was allegedly sent "Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service" (whatever that means) and it has still not arrived i figured extra time an all due to the holidays but things i ordered before and during the holidays have already shown up.
I sent a polite query last evening as to the status of my package and am awaiting a reply, the seller has 100% feedback and i dont think Wisconsin to Pennsylvania should take quite this long unless that method of shipping utilizes horse and buggy?
So what is "Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service" and does anyone use it?
-
Very cool! I had not seen that before the only thing i remember was an old nintendo power that showed how to take pics of your high scores.

Gex i can't get enough -o- that lil critter!

#1 Christmas release
#2 Pack in Game Gex
#3 All the afore mentioned hardware upgrades are solid and would have helped.
#4 I realize getting licenses was tough for Atari but some must haves they should have pursued strongly WWF Wrestling titles, Better Doom, Street Fighter Remix(bring back some of the guys from the very first game and introduce a true storyline mode ie: combine rpg elements with seemingly random fights along the way that will become more clear as the story progresses and have a standard vs mode too. Better sports titles: George Foremans boxing legends take the finest boxers from the past and offer a create a boxer mode. A baseball game on par with Ken Griffey from the SNES, Madden would have rocked on the Jag. An arcade classic cart, a cart with multiple puzzle games.
#5 The CD should have come the next year packed with a demo disc and a copy of GEX Unlimited also the Lynx should have been redesigned as it was a tremendous beast(not a very portable system) to slide into a docking station on the CD unit that would not only allow Lnxy play through the main system but thanks to the modem built into the CD unit it could download games to the built in storage in the new lynx (think sega channel in reverse)

If you are going to play a Pro Wrestling game you should be playing Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for the PS2 it doesnt get better than the FPW games and the PS2 FPW can be picked up for as cheap as $10.
(And as far as i know it doesnt cheat either).
I have FP for GBA i know its not quite the sme but i enjoy it very much!
Sadly i have no more PS2 just my new PsP but with the Ps2 getting to be cheaper at Gamestop i will be getting another one soon. The predetermined outcome was not for you to win. It's just like real pro wrestling.Yeah i'm all to famliar with how that works thanks to my very short lived time trying to get into the indy circut.
