Why the hate for "phone" controllers?
kroogur replied to kroogur's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I guess I did but the gist of what I was getting at was when we were growing up with our "phones" we knew what the buttons did and we grew used to them until they were 2nd nature just like the modern controllers are to new gamers of today. I guess my other point was a general swipe at reviewers that just badmouth stuff because it's what is accepted by the masses (like the undeserved hatred for E.T.) Or to use another example...cars. I am an auto mechanic by trade and when I say that Dodge Neons are rubbish I usually get an argument from someone who thinks they are awesome. Well the problem there is the guy that thinks they are great owns 1 Dodge Neon and maybe it has been well relatively trouble free and he trades it in after it's paid off. Me? I have been behind the wheel of hundreds of Neons and between the recalls, flimsy build quality, body rot, transmission issues and all the rest I can easily make the statement that Neons are rubbish because I have spent so much time with them and became very familiar with every aspect of the car. The same applies to these reviewers they pick up a Jaguar controller play with it for a few minutes and comment how archaic and lame they are compared to the controllers from other systems. -
Sometimes when articles are written about classic consoles or "worst" lists are made Atari 5200/Jaguar,Colecovision,Intellivision etc are bashed because of their weird "phone" keyboard style controllers usually by some wet behind the ears snot nose that returns to playing his/her PS3 or 360 after bashing the old weird technology. Did they ever stop to think that the controller they are using right now is basically the tech that they just bashed? If you look at a PS3/360 controller you got what? 4 d-pad buttons,4 function buttons,2 triggers, 2 buttons above the triggers, 2 thumbsticks and 3 buttons in the center for a total of about 17 buttons and they are griping about the old controllers??

Plug & Play Consoles - Four Reviews
kroogur replied to Metal Jesus's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Very cool! I subscribed Your reviews are solid and very well done. -
A system is only as dead as you want it to be. With the sheer volume of titles available for the PS2 i'm sure you have not played every title for the system so there is much out there to still discover and enjoy! And don't rule out homebrew either, The Atari systems,Colecovision,Dreamcast hell even the Fairchild Channel F and other systems have new games being made all the time. The really is no such thing as a dead system.

From their faq: "How much will the nD cost? The current target price for the nD is $10-20. It is being sold at cost with no markup. "It costs ten dollars because that's what they cost to make." If this system is as open as they say it will be how exactly are they going to turn a profit and stay in business? I can't see game sales sustaining this.

I was given a copy of a similar list many years ago by one of the instructors at the school I attended for auto mechanics, I couldn't find the exact list online so I C&P'ed a similar list to illustrate my point. And my determination was made by your defense that they move alot of "merch". It seems that we will have to agree to disagree here but I don't care if it's video games or open heart surgery if someone is not giving 100% of their effort in their endeavors then it's not good enough. It comes down to pride in your work. Lukie games offering to ship the game when it became available was not a good effort considering they made a mistake to begin with. The proper response would have been 'We apologize for the misunderstanding and at this time we would like to either offer you a full refund or if you prefer we will ship your game to you when we have another copy available plus a 10% discount refunded to you for the inconvenience.' I have worked retail for a number of years before becoming a mechanic and any company I worked for had such policies to offer to the customer if we could not satisfy them. The golden ax is a great example of how a seller should work, if there is ever a problem with one of his deals he goes to great lengths to make it right. I have no beef with you and my first sentence in my earlier post was simply a lighthearted potshot about the length of you post in response to tz101 wasting 10x more time making his original post I apologize if it came across too mean spirited as sometimes things don't translate well on the web.

That took me 48 seconds to read i want a refund for my time please :D (i'm kidding of course) And as far as Lukiegames and their large volume of merch: IF 99% IS GOOD ENOUGH, THEN ... - 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents daily. - 268,500 defective tires will be shipped this year. - 103,260 income tax returns will be processed incorrectly this year. - 811,000 faulty rolls of 35mm film will be loaded this year. - 14,208 defective personal computers will be shipped this year. - 2,488,200 books will be shipped in the next 12 months with the wrong cover. - Two plane landings daily at O' Hare International Airport in Chicago will be unsafe. - 3,056 copies of tomorrow's Wall Street Journal will be missing one of the three sections. - 18,322 pieces of mail will be mishandled in the next hour. - 291 pacemaker operations will be performed incorrectly this year. - 880,000 credit cards in circulation will turn out to have incorrect cardholder information on their magnetic strip. - $761,900 will be spent in the next 12 months on tapes and CDs that will not play. - 55 malfunctioning automatic teller machines will be installed in the next 12 months. - 20,000 incorrect drug prescriptions will be written in the next 12 months. - 114,500 mismatched pairs of shoes will be shipped this year. - 107 incorrect medical procedures will be performed by the end of the day today. - 315 entries in Webster's Third New International Dictionary of the English Language will be misspelled. - $9,690 will be spent every day on defective, often unsafe sporting equipment. - 2,000,000 documents will be lost by the IRS this year. - 22,000 checks will be deducted from the wrong bank accounts in the next 60 minutes. - Homes would be without electricity, heat, water, and telephone service for 15 minutes every day. - Every page of the telephone directory would contain four wrong numbers.

Did he read the script? Was he familiar with the game? Did he research the role at all? If it was rubbish to him now then his rubbish radar should have picked up on it back then. A movie like Schindler's List or Titanic is what advances your career a movie like Super Mario Brothers is called a paycheck collect it and move on. Do you think for a moment that Captain Lou Albano or Charlie the Bartender thought that the Super Mario Brothers Super Show was their ticket to the top?? Hell no it's was a paycheck have some fun with it and move on.

Oblivion Shivering Isles add-on Has a quest where you are forced to take and become dependent on Feldew. If you don't continue to take it until you complete the quest your health is continuously damaged. -
Because like he mentioned in his description they are heavy

maybe you were! No I wasn't, I just... I don't know, I feel bad now I don't think you were being mean at all. The first impression I got looking at his auction was "I don't give a S%$# here is what I have bid or don't bid I could care less" If he spent the five or so minutes to clean that pile up and accurately list what is there then he probably would have attracted more bids. But since he already has a bid on it then it all worked out for him. (And no I didn't bid on it either)

I thought I was the only one with ridiculously long download times. I chose Little Big planet and Dead Nation around 5:30 am yesterday and LBP is only at 75% and DN is at 3%

For the money you can't beat these deals! I think half the fun is just getting stuff you never thought of getting yourself and trying it out! well worth the small amount of money. -
Oooohhh ok i'll do it since no one else has yet.... BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!!! :rolling: :rolling: That's a good one! a really, really good one! Point one! It's 2011 and 360,Wii,and Playstation are the current focus of the console gaming community. Point two! The general gaming community has not given a crap about Lynx,Jaguar and Game.com since they were new systems. Point three! The only people who even give a care about these games/systems are the 'retro/niche/diehard' fan types that are in the minority. And none of those folks are likely to have $350K just sitting around to blow on that kind of inventory and stores like Big Lots or Ollies are unlikely to touch these items because they are to damn old. Sadly he is probably going the O'Sheas route and just looking to sell this stuff off so it can be melted down for the gold.

This does not look good. It was nice too see the Bloodrayne franchise get some love but this game looks like some cheap flash/shovelware effort.

I rarely buy a new release game but the first Dragon Age was made of such an incredible amount of awesome that I snapped up DA2 and had it beat in about 8 days. My thoughts? Absolute rubbish... easily the worst $60 i spent in a looong time. First issue I had was you could only choose human for your race. I spend most of my day playing a level 39 Human in real life, when I play a fantasy game I like to be something different and that was one of the things that the first DA so great was the engaging storylines for the elf and dwarf races. Second issue: I love the old Hanna Barbera cartoons but not in my video games. Looping backgrounds in old cartoons? Fine! Looping backgrounds in a fantasy rpg? horrible. The overwhelming sense of deja-vu in DA2 was too much. Third issue: Now my character can talk... thanks but my imagination still works fine and I usually have no trouble assigning a voice to my character in my own warped little mind. Fourth issue: I went through the whole story line and instead of a sense of accomplishment all the original problems my character dealt with were replaced by different ones. On a side note I bought the game on release day and when I went back to Gamestop 8 days later they offered me a whopping $24 for the game that I had just paid $60 for a little over a week ago this wouldn't grieve me so much if they didn't turn right around and slap a $54.99 sticker and put it on the used games shelf. so after telling them to shove it (they do love to get you fill out those surveys) I traded the game to a friend for a new radio for my truck

No there is are lists floating around out on the internets that list what XBox games will work. And xenomorpher listed some of the emulation goodness that the XBox is capable of in an earlier post.
