  1. Ok, this movie has me sold. I officially want to get a copy of this game. Thanks Mr. Strum for posting! Now, how would I get a copy? I mean, I can do the rom-thing, but can anyone devise a way for me to get a copy? I mean, I guess there's: a) Wait for a copy on ebay (and spend a few hundred on it) b) Plead with Atariage to have a one-day sale for this again. c) See if anyone has an extra copy they'd be willing to part with (for cash or Paypal), and have them PM me. Really wishin I spent more time lookin at this one last Christmas. Unfortunately, there were few reviews, so it's only recently that my interest came out (with the 2600 Connection issue 80). And, double-unfortaunately, this issue came out way after Christmas. So, any ideas? -John
  2. I only wish there was a port of Ninja Golf for the 2600. Nothing gets more original than that! -John
  3. Hi everyone, Ok, it sounded from reviews that this game was pretty fun. I'd be interested in further reviews (if anyone has any). And, does anyone know if this will ever be available again? -John
  4. Really dumb question-- did you make sure you picked up a bomb first before using them? -John
  5. I'm still surprised that the diagnostic cart required additional hardware that was never released. Makes me think that there's probably a warehouse or a landfill full of such things. -John
  6. Looks like Realsports Driving may have become Pole Position: http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software//...oleposition.htm -John
  7. How many points are there for shooting a bridge? Those are the only "must-shoot" targets, theoretically. Because of this, the theshold where the "river goes nuts" may never be reachable at all, if the number of levels to get there times the number of points per bridge > 999,999 points. Regards, -John
  8. Seems to happen often-- like with the Ninja Golf easter egg. The author knew it was there, but didn't know how to produce it. So, there's possibilities that things like this are still around in other games, which is totally cool! If we ever find the Ikari Warriors warp code, I can die happy. -John
  9. How crazy did you go (15m)? Which address did you change (and to what value)? Maybe another address can be changed to mod the randomness. -John
  10. Besides being killed? There's a LOT of dudes in that last room... -John
  11. Old thread, but it would be nice to see if any super-sleuths are up for figuring out this secret code ("Mutate"). -John
  12. I had done something like this awhile ago, actually. I would recommend looking at "Joust" and "Asteroids". Still can't figure out how to trigger these. http://www.digitpress.com/eastereggs/78joust.htm http://www.digitpress.com/eastereggs/78asteroids.htm I think I tipped DP off about the graphics being there, but I don't believe that the pix are mine. Food Fight, however, is not listed here: http://www.digitpress.com/eastereggs/7800.htm Perhaps we should add it? Regards, -John

    Xevious?

So, it doesn't sound hard to put gfx data in there. Maybe it'd be cool to have a "Design your own Xevious data" contest? -John

    Xevious?

Did anyone confirm that the buildings do explode when bombed? That would mean that collision handling is in place too. -John

    Xevious?

Any chance for a screenshot with the new rom? -John
  16. Be sure to check both the Atari 7800 version if the and Atari 2600 version does not suffice. Both versions are quite different-- I'm not sure which Atari system you may have had. -John
  17. Since it's already out of the box, and being played with, I'd say nuke it-- I don't think the plastic will mod the value at all. However, if you are really, really, thinking this system should be your "collectible" one, then I agree with Lord Helmet-- put it away (unpeeled) in some closet, buried so deep that it'll make a cool vacuum "whoosh" noise when unearthed years later, and pick up a used secondary system "for playing". If I'm still in the loop, I don't think a full system will cost you more than $30 (though I have been outta the loop for awhile). -John
  18. Hey there! It's a good idea, definitely, but would have technical limitaitons. I had looked at the possibility of doing this as a side project, and it would be... hard. If I remember right, there are some scenes with really, really wide pits that are a horrible pain to jump-- in translating this to the 2600, it would be hard, since playfield graphics have a standard width of four pixels. So, standard pits are 2 of these blocks (totalling 8 pixles wide), and the next available size would be 12 pixels wide... I'm not sure if this is able to be jumped. Apart from that, I think there are a few scenes where there are 2 objects (besides Harry) in the same scanline "zone", i.e. like a bat and a treasure. These instances would have to be revamped for the 2600. Apart from these issues, something could be done. But, I think a completely new game would be more fascinating. I currently hold firm to the unfounded belief that no one has ever gotten a "perfect" score on Pitfall 2 for the 5200/Atari 800, going through the second level. It's just too damn hard, and the controllers suck, making it worse. I just checked Twin Galaxies-- scores for Pitfall II on Atari 800 and the 5200 are topped out at 199,000 (so, the second quest is ignored in the definitive record book, it looks like). Prove me wrong people... prove me wrong. Anyone ever done it? Wait a sec, what happens if you get Rhonda or the Raj Diamond last in the 5200/800 version? Does a door open up next to them too, taking you to the second level? Or, does the game just end? IIRC, the door opened up when standing next to Quickclaw. -John
  19. Does anyone have a screenshot of the C64 version of Pitfall 3? I did some searching, and the only thing I could find was some reference (possibly wrong) that says that this version was actually a hack of a C64 game called Orpheus in the Underworld I did some searching and found that ROMs are available for "Pitfall III" (just google it in quotes, with C64 as an added keyword). Maybe someone can post a pic? I don't have a C64 emulator handy. -John
  20. This reminds me of an idea I had for "Ninga Golf 2: Ninja in the City" You could golf, take on street gangs, drive balls off of buildings, fight alligators in sewers, etc... Surprised that there was a thread about this, actually-- sometimes I'm amazed at Atariage's history. -John
  21. Wow-- you actually motivated me to find out what "hirsute" means. That's impressive-- the last word I looked up for anyone recently was fysigunkus. Whatever happened to Pitfall Hairy anyway? -John
  22. Hi everyone, Sometimes I dream that "Pitfall 3" would exist for the Atari 2600. Now, I'm not the kinda guy that would say "can someone program this?" or anything. I just thought it would be interesting to discuss what people would envision it to be like. I think the givens would be: * Definitely not 3D. * With a HUGE map, perhaps 8x that of Pitfall 2 (to make people feel *lost*) * Same graphics style * Our friend, the Scorpion * Rhonda and Quickclaw would be back * Not sure if swimming, balloons, the rat, or the Raj Diamond would return (in favor of new items and challenges). * I'd like to see the silver bars return, personally (but leave the moneybags away) Things that I think could be added would be: * Teleports (to add to map complexity) * A Mine car sequence (or something with mines in general) * Maybe an ice cavern? * More complicated "pitfall" caverns-- with ledges and broken ladders in different places that make navigation sort of a puzzle in itself It'd probably be interesting to see some mock-up art or something for this (box or screenshot), although I can't do it myself (I can code, but have limited artistic ability; it would probably look like "revenge of the sticks"). Any thoughts? I'm sure people have thought about this before, and have their own opinions. Let's hear them! -John
  23. "Taking a lady frog home . . . . . . . . . . . . . 20 points" Don't want to comment on what this could be a metaphor for... -John
  24. Hmm... there's only two that pop into my head: 1) Space War (http://www.atariage.com/screenshot_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=470) 2) Combat (http://www.atariage.com/screenshot_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=96) // see the lower screenshots. Getting any closer at all? -John
