You want to see something silly, funny, strange at no charge. Just look at what some of the Atari stuff is going for on Ebay ! I've checked the prices with some of the commercial sites listed here, and it's robbery. Well, I guess P T Barnum was right, but I hate to see that.

I purchased a "rare" 8-bit cartridge last night on Ebay for $1.00. This "rare" cartridge was Pac-Man. What's with advertising carts like Pac-Man as "rare", when as far as I know, they're not. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Am I missing something, or what ? In the listing of companies producing games, I can't find Sierra-Online. Did they just produce the games for the 8-bit ? I know the original Jawbreaker and the 'chuckles' version were both put out by Sierra.

I realize Joysticks have a lot to do with personal preference, but what would work well with games like Pac-Man and Jawbreaker ? I'm looking at the Superstick, but I'm not sure. The "stock" Atari sticks just seem too little for my hand and not that responsive, but then again, I have a rebuild kit on the way, so maybe they'll work okay. Thanks.

I agree entirely, and now that I've been on AtariAge for a while, I've found quite a few firms and individuals who are honest, and where you can compare prices and see just what a particular item is selling for. Then when I go to Ebay, if I do go there, I have some reference regarding price and availability of items. I've also found quite a few members on the board who have been extremely helpful and friendly. Not a better board on the net ! As far as stating what I paid, I'll just leave it at TOO MUCH.

I purchased an Atari 800 and 1050 drive from "KOZJ" on Ebay last week; it arrived in a flimsy box and looked as though the computer and drive had been thrown in; both cases were cracked and all but 8 keys were missing off the computer. 'Got the computer going, but no communication with drive. This post just to warn others of this individual. The guy had shades by his name, and no feedback in the last 6 months, so I guess I should have researched this better, but regardless, I purchased a system in good faith and received junk. 'Hope this helps.

'Have tried just about every emulator out there; AtariWin seems to be the best hands down. Stella Pro has given good results, but I guess I've spent enough time with AtariWin that I've got to know it better. 'Runs everything I've put through it.

Okay, did see both switches and they're both to the left. I'm learning... I thought I had things solved today when I found 2 pins on the Atari bent; on trying to straighten them, they broke off, and I thought of just hardwiring the end of the drive cable, but upon reflection, decided to replace the pins, so the Atari comes apart and 2 new pins are put in; plugged in the cable to the Atari and had continuity to the new pins, no shorts to other pins, things were looking up, right ? Well, they were, until I hooked it all up again and still the Atari is just not seeing the drive for some reason. I have another 800 and 1050 coming, and will check out the drive on the "old" one when I'm sure it works with the "new" one. This computer and drive were banged up really good in transit, so I'll just wait until I have a working setup and then experiement and see just what's working and what's not. Thanks a lot for the help and advice.

Drive selects SWITCHES ? I see only one to the left side looking at the back. This has been switched to both positions, so if there is another one, they should have matched up at some point. Thanks for the tip about holding Start to load from casseste; that's what I originally had way back and I knew some key had to be held down to get the load going. I've had this drive apart, and not knowing that much about it but not liking to get beat by a piece of equipment, it's really frustrating. All the connections, wiring, components, etc appeared to be solidly connected, no cracked pc board, nothing out of the ordinary as far as my limited background with these drives goes. Thanks for the tip and let me know about 1 or 2 switches.

I'm the proud new owner of an Atari 800 and 1050 disk drive that I bought off Ebay, only thing, the system was almost in pieces when I took it out of the box. 'Nother story.... I finally got the Atari 800 going (memo pad, basic cartridge okay), and the 1050 'seems' to be trying to work, but when I place a dos disk in it (with Atari off) and close the little lever, it shows busy for a few seconds; then I turn the Atari on and memo pad comes up. If I hold Start the Atari beeps like it wants to do something, but the computer and drive just do not seem to be communicating at all. There is no cartridge in the Atari when booting, but I have tried with the basic cartridge too. By the way, how are games booted ? Same way as dos ? Anyway, checked out the drive cable and if it's 1 to 1..etc, all the wires show continuity; didn't look for any shorts but the wiring looked good (took ends apart). It's been a long time since I've used an Atari and I'd really appreciate any comments and help. Oh, when the disk is in the 1050 and the Atari is booted with the Start key held, it just beeps, does not show memo pad, but no error message is ever shown; if no keys are pressed and held when booting up the Atari memo just comes up, no error codes, no nothing. It's like the drive's not there. This unit took quite a beating, but I'm suspecting the 1050, or user error. Again, any thoughts and help appreciated. Thanks. Bill

Thanks for the info MOB. I knew John Harris was the programmer of the original Jawbreaker, but I had forgotten about all the legal hassle over the game/s. I guess I'll have to search really hard to find the "real thing"; there's an assortment of cartridges on Ebay right now, and Jawbreaker is one of them, but I'll bet it's not the one I'm after. Oh well, maybe I'll get outbid. Thanks a lot for the info. I'm just up the freeway (I-45) in Conroe.

I had Jawbreaker by Sierra Online on tape in the early 80's; does anyone know if there's a cartridge too. I've been looking for this game for ages, and am not having a lot of luck. This is the original Jawbreaker, not Jawbreaker 2 or construction set. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been looking for a game which I used to have when I had my Atari 800; it was Jawbreaker, and I had to load it from tape. Apparently, this is an extremely rare game. Thanks to Jindroush and his excellent info, I know a little more about it, and that it was made by Sierra Online. I don't know if an 'original' cartridge was made, but I would appreciate any help locating this software. Also, does anyone know anything about this Atari 2600 256 game multi-cartridge; there's one for sale on Ebay, and I've never run across this and wonder if the games are the real thing. Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Nova. That helps a lot. I had an Atari 800 that I had to load the game from tape with, and if I'm not mistaken, the game was by Sierra Online. So, I guess you're saying if I want this game I'll have to find another 800 and the game on tape (or was there an original cartridge ?). The game by Tigervision doesn't look like the exact same game if the emulation version is accurate. Thanks.

I'm looking for Jawbreaker but am having trouble finding it. I used to have it on tape years ago for my Atari 800, and I assume the 2600 cartridge is the same game. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
