Not a thrift store find, but a thrifty find indeed. Got a Generation NEX system with a/v cables, power adapter, controller and instruction manual for $25 from my local Play N Trade today. Score!
BTW, This has turned out the biggest P.O.S. I have ever bought gaming wise. I'm assuming all of the rave reviews I read online were lies. Lies, I say!
The NEX is a funny thing. I think that they ran into a lot of production issues. I'd written a review for Retro Thing, and we even had a bunch of them here. I've had one that's been running like a top since I opened it, and another that failed after a month. too bad because there were a lot of good ideas built into that console, I just think that those ideas outpaced what their overseas manufacturing could reliably deliver on.

Here is the specification of the screws in the joystick:
#2 phillips panhead screws 3/8" length.
Hope that this helps!
-
It just looks better without the 4th screwI would consider that an opinion.
Now reconsider the post I made earlier:
Maybe the type of screw that was used (length, diameter) could be listed for those who cared enough to add one?I'm not trying to be an ass, maybe a person is just REALLY anal about their $35 joystick.
Listing the screw type seems like a simple request.

Opinion or not, that's the way that the product shipped to everyone. That's what the product is supposed to look like. To use your video cassette example, it would be like calling JVC after noticing that there's an extra unused screwhole in a VHS tape, and then asking them to send you an extra screw for it.
Just to show you that I'm better than JVC would be in this situation, if you email me your address I'll mail you a screw if you still really want one. Cool?

Oh - I missed the suggestion of listing the spec on the screw for those of you who'd like to add your own. I'll get on that.

A couple days ago I wrote about picking up two non-working PS2 slim consoles for $7.50. Some of you guys had some good advice on what goes wrong in these things, and I took one apart to start monkeying with it. Then I discovered that the PSU I'd tested it with (and was included in the bundle) was actually for a PSP. No wonder it didn't work!
So I hit Gamesopt hoping to find one used, but no dice. They wanted $20 for a new one. I knew I could probably get one on Ebay for around $10, so I thought maybe that would be the deal. On a whim I zapped over to Best Buy, and they had two 3rd party PSU's marked down to $5 each! When I get 'em home, I found that both my slims work. So for under $20 total I've got 2 working PS2 slims, 2 dual shock 2's, AC adapters, a not-so-useful PSP AC adapter) and a copy of Call of Duty 3 and a DVD of High School Musical that was in each one. Except for the DVD, I think that I made out.

I'll clarify. None of them have four screws. It just looks better without the 4th screw when it lights up. I didn't reply right away because I wanted to personally double check our stock, but yeah - our sticks just have the three screws. The stability isn't an issue. Cool?
-
Actually, it's supposed to have just three screws. It looks better with the illumination. That post can hold a screw if you want it to, but it just looks better over all without it. As far as stability, there is no real difference. I just wanted to double check that we weren't sending out any with four screws - so all the ones out there are three screw jobbers.
-
I will look into this. I have gotten one other email from someone that only had three screws in theirs as well. If you should have an extra screw, I'll get in touch and will be happy to mail you one of those teeny tiny screws. Thanks for letting me know.
-
I still haven't seen mine yet...damn mail, maybe it'll be there today or tomorrow, but eh...I was hopeing it would be here already.
Hey, the disc that comes with it will work on other 2600 games right, it's just a moded emulator to read the controller isn't it? Just checking.
It's the regular distribution of Stella. It'll run whatever you throw at it. The stick isn't tied to it in any way. You can use it with other emulators if you'd like to. One of the things you can do if you're a modder is add a couple extra buttons to the case to use it even with modern games.
As for the delivery of the US Mail, well... we all have been there.

Gorgeous picture! Is one of those mini SI cocktails the one where you drop a Playstation controller in it to play the updated version of of the game?
Yup. It's the PS2 Space Invaders controller shell, the Space Invaders Bank, and the Mini Handheld Space Invaders. As for the backdrop, I didn't want my living room wall visible, so, well... I improvised.
That's outstanding! Sounds like the kind of improvisation I have to do all the time for work. Wow. Pants!
Oh, and I forgot to ask - what is it all sitting one? An actual SI cocktail, or did you lay your LCD flat so you could do pics? You did a lot of work!

Gorgeous picture! Is one of those mini SI cocktails the one where you drop a Playstation controller in it to play the updated version of of the game? I've got one of those, but still haven't dug up a bootloader so I can play the Japanese game on my PS2.
I'm wittering on here... thanks for the great photo! Keep 'em coming folks!

Got Parappa The Rapper 2 for $7. From what I understand, this game is about as rare as a singular copy of Jest Set Radio Future or Sega GT 2002.
The version for PS2 is rare? It was a launch title, I thought there would be a kerjillion of 'em. I've got it (I could hardly wait to find a PS2 just so I could play it), and it's a lot of fun. I love the original too. They're really hard to play on my arcade cabinet sinced the games are idealy suited to having your fingers curled around the controller rather than slapping buttons on a flat surface.

Glad to hear that you're so pleased. We're all very proud of our young joysticks going out into the world.
How about sending us a couple of pictures with the stick in action? We're thinking of doing a post showing the blue joysticks out in the wild. Thanks again for getting one, and to everyone else for your support!

Got two xboxes for $20 today. president's Day sale and everything was half off, and these xboxes had been marked down a bunch of times. Neither had cords, so I took a chance. Sadly they both seem to have problems, but I got them as parts machines anyway. I still paid less than what a replacement Xbox DVD drive would have cost me on Ebay.

This was weird. I found a pair of PS2 slim consoles, 2 Dual Shock 2's, a video cable and power supply for $7.50. I had no idea those things were so small! They both share a problem. When you turn the console on, the power light flickers green for an instant and then shuts down. Poking around on the net there is a known set of resistor and fuses to check. not looking forward to that as it must surface mounted stuff that I've never been really succesful soldering.
Oh well... for $7.50 it was worth the risk.
I also got Call of Duty 2 and the DVD of High School Musical (who cares?) in the consoles, so again... not a bad deal overall. -
SNES junior with video hookups and two controllers - $10.
-
The rarity there is all the hookups. There are a lot of fiddly little cables that have to be present for a 32X to work. There was a time where I saw 32X's all the time, but it was never with the special custom cables necessary. I've probaly got a couple in storage, but they're only good for massochists who want to solder for hours just to get some mediocre games to work.

Saw a color laser printer for $12. It was a bigger more industrial oriented one, so even if it had issues it would have been repairable. A guy walked out with it moments before I could get there. Thta's okay though - I don't do enough printing to justify stocking yet ANOTHER kind of ink/toner around here. Besides the cow needs real space... but I would not been able to resist the temptation. So glad the other guy got it.
-
Yes they are. Take it from the guy who hauled all those boxes full of 'em!

Found a Vader for $7 - no controllers, but it did have the wall wart. Left behind a Genesis setup & 2600 Pac-Man.
-
I've got the Japanese release of the Dreamcast Jet Set Radio soundtrack that it just excellent - far better than the music they sold here for the Xbox sequel. I used to play cuts off of that CD when I had a radio show here in Chicago. I've also got the soundtrack for Space Channel 5, but it's not all that great without the distraction of the game.
I have a mini CD with music on it from some Nintendo game (I think it's the one where you're the little guy with the bug spray fighting off the descending insects) that came as a random pick Japanese thing...I do have a couple of storybook records that tell the story of Pac-Man at Christmas, and something with Donkey Kong. Also have two LP's for Asteroid & Missile Command that are also story telling records, but the best part is that the covers feature the cart art bigger than ever.

Bohus from Retro Thing here. Glad to see that you guys like the stick! They really are sweet looking in person. I even brought them to a professional suare this weekend, and it was great to see all these local executives melt before it! It's a limited edition, so if you're interested you should swing over to Retro Thing and checkit out. Oh, and as for rewiring it to work with a real Atari, I have a feeling that would be possible. Looking at the PCB I think it would't even be that difficult... but I'm not the expert.
Thanks for your support everybody!

Today I bought 90+ Sega CD games, front-loader CD & Model I Genny, DVD player, and Boxed Genny I, and a loose Genesis. I am Genesis Man today. Details and pictures to come.
Ya gotta dish how much you paid for all of that coolness! If you feel like, of course...

It's funny that I'm seeing more and more last gen consoles at nutty prices. I go back to me "two consoles behind" rule, that for a system to be regarded as worthless, it's gotta be two gens behind. I've explained to people at the thrift that at $80 their Xbox is more than what I can get one for at a retail store with at least a little bit of guarantee. Oh well, they're not experts after all...

Looks like I may have missed something. Does this mean that your mod is for sale? Or is it in the testing stages yet? Thanks! I was thining of modding mine with the composite kit sometime soon, but would rather wait for your component thingy if it's just around the corner. Thanks!

I was also very pleased to meet Eduardo, and Jeff31. The new expansion is really, really exciting. I'm still reading back in this thread to catch up on the naming of the new thing. I can hardly wait. Keep up the good work, and I'll make sure we cover it on Retro Thing!
